About the Author:

I am a lover of books, chocolate, reality TV, black labs, and cold weather. Seriously, if I had it my way, I would be curled up on the couch with all of those things... everyday.

I live in Texas where I spend my free time writing and reading. My favorite authors include Mindy Kaling & Jonathan Safran Foer. I'm a comedy geek and love all things "funny". Women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling are definitely the biggest inspirations for my writing, though I think my work tends to skew a bit smuttier than theirs.

Review ~ More than Water by Renee Ericson

Reviewed by Donna ~ 4.5 stars

“It doesn’t feel right. It doesn’t feel wrong. It just…feels.”

I absolutely loved this story, it was a prime example of never judge a book by its cover, not in the literal sense but in the way these characters made their opinions from first glance and couldn’t have been more wrong until they started turning the pages. First appearances can be deceptive, it is always worth to take the time and find the real person underneath, you may be pleasantly surprised.

“Somehow, somewhere, and someway, Foster has become my muse, and I’ve learned over the years that it’s best not to fight profoundly speaking passion.”

More Than Water is an NA romance, covering the college life of Evelyn/EJ. Evelyn is the daughter of wealthy parents who have high expectations. They want her to follow in the family footsteps, get her MBA and join the family business. Evelyn is more of a free spirit, she loves her art, this is something that she wants to pursue but with family pressures she is feeling that she has no choice but to do as her parents wish. Evelyn also works in the library and it is here that she meets nerdy, geeky Foster Blake. He is a chemical engineering student, the complete opposite of who she normally falls for; after all she has just split with her bad boy boyfriend who was also in a band.

“Who says I should be that much of a cliché? I’m naturally a masterpiece.”

Foster may have been a geek, but he was a handsome geek…he may have hidden behind his nerdy exterior but underneath was a man with a heart of gold and I have to say he was absolutely perfect in all his geeky hotness. He too had family expectations and was following in the family tradition of all the Foster’s before him, but this was something he loved and had aspired to.

“You know I love it when you talk nerdy to me…forget dirty wordsmithery. Science is where it’s at.”

I loved the banter between these two; I was in stitches at times and swooning in others. It wasn’t long before the lines of friendship began to blur and the progression of their friendship soon turned to friends with benefits. But despite his nerdiness Foster was the driving force behind this relationship, he was the one that opened Evelyn’s eyes, he encouraged her to widen her horizons and it wasn’t long before you could see that this friends with benefits arrangement was slowly turning into more.

“Are the two worlds colliding, meshing, morphing, blurring, and breaking past the spoken and unspoken lines of what we claim to be?”

I loved the slow build, I loved the progression, it flowed effortlessly and I loved that feeling of watching these two both leave their comfort zones and try for more. Foster had been burned in the past so he had his own hesitation and as I said above, Evelyn had never gone for a geek before, he just wasn’t her type, but as they say, opposites attract. Foster was the driving force behind Evelyn, he made her recognise her potential as an artist, he helped her, he supported her and deep down, even though he hadn’t realised it himself, he loved her.

“This is the face of a man looking at a woman he loves. He has no money or prestige, only a heart.”

This book was perfectly balanced and has something for everyone, I laughed, I loved, I cried and I loved some more. I loved the natural progression, it wasn’t rushed, it was realistic, it was honest and it was beautiful to watch. I couldn’t put this book down, it was one of those books that I didn’t want to end and I felt bereft when it did. This is one of those books that would benefit from an epilogue, I know I am a greedy person when it comes to characters that I fall in love with, I never want to let them go, but this one ended too soon, I wanted to know more, a lot more.

“Out of my mind and into reality. I am not the water. I’m something else. More than water.”

I hope Renee Ericson continues their story, even if it is just a novella, I need more Evelyn and Fozzie and I’m not below begging! Highly recommend this one, the banter will have you laughing and their relationship will have you swooning, a fantastic read that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Review ~ Secret by Kindle Alexander

Reviewed by Donna ~ 4 stars

“…he was a gay man buried so deep in the closet he questioned if he would ever find his way out.”

As usual with Kindle Alexander she has delivered another sweet M/M story but not without a little angst. I couldn’t put this book down and from the first till last page I was swept away with Dylan’s story.

Dylan has to be the most selfless man I have ever read about. Having met his wife at college and obviously making the most of the college experience they soon found themselves becoming parents and this happened a further two times. Now married with three little children Dylan found himself in a life he never expected. Dylan’s wife was his best friend, their relationship was unconventional to say the least, but for the sake of their family they had decided to remain a family unit until all the children were at university. Dylan knew he was gay; the only person he had told was his wife. While his wife had a long standing relationship outside of the marriage, Dylan had decided not to explore for a romantic interest, he knew the implications of coming out to his children and he wanted them to be settled and happy before he rocked the family unit. Dylan was an app inventor in the social media world and his wife a lawyer, Dylan was on the verge of making millions himself, everything he was working for was coming to fruition, a takeover was on the cards.

“…they didn’t ask to be born. It wasn’t their fault I didn’t have the balls to be me.”

Tristan was a self made millionaire and openly gay, he ran a successful company that bought and sold companies, Dylan’s company was in his sights. Tristan was married to his job, he never had relationships, he had acquaintances that he called as and when the need arised, a relationship was the last thing on his mind. He was actually a bit of a recluse, preferring to work from home than the office.

These two men were total opposites, but together the chemistry was electric. While Dylan was a man struggling with who and what he was, Tristan was happy in his skin and it doesn’t take him long to realise that Dylan is not who he seems. Dylan was always sure he had hidden his true self; no-one knew only his wife and no-body had an inkling, yet in a few hours Tristan had him worked out and this threw him for a loop. How could someone he didn’t know actually know him so well? I loved seeing Tristan knocked on his ass, this was all new for him too, he had never had feelings, he never felt jealousy or possessiveness, what was this man doing to him?

“Funny. What I’ll remember about that moment is that I was so turned on by you I lost sight of everything just to touch you.”

While it was a bit insta love the story itself was believable and extremely heart warming. While his relationship with his wife did seem too good to be true I could actually see it happening. All I can say is that she must be the most understanding person in the world and I was so happy that they had managed to find a happy medium for both of them.

“It’s hard to go back to adequate once you’ve had spectacular.”

I loved the way that Tristan nurtured Dylan; he knew when to push and when to give space. He helped Dylan through every step, guided him and most importantly loved him. I just loved every thing about this book, I loved the way the wife and Tristan got together to help Dylan. Everybody wanted the best for Dylan even if he didn’t realise himself. He needed that push and I was so glad that he had two people that were willing and able to give it.

Once again another winner from Kindle Alexander and another couple that have been cemented into my heart.

“Fake it till you make it.”

Friday Frights ~ PNR Review ~ Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic (Dowser Series #1) by Meghan Ciana Doidge

Reviewed by Shirley ~ 4 stars

This intriguing book gives you the whole motley paranormal species, witches and werewolves are just a few that are mentioned. It also tells you of the very quirky main character, twenty three year old Jade Godfrey, a half witch, who likes nothing better than to bake sumptuous cupcakes in her shop "Cake in a Cup."

One day her whole world gets turned upside down when a vampire shows his face at her shop doorway. He couldn't get in as wards had been placed so no one that was an "Adept," a magical being in other words, could come through without Jades permission. The sight of the vampire really rattled Jade as it was so unusual to see any vampires in her city of Vancouver. Although this certain vampire was good looking in a Scandinavian way with white blond hair, pale skin and icy looking eyes but he was scary with it. She could see his strong magic surrounding him. Then thankfully he disappeared.

When finished for the day Jade had the surprise of her life when she walked in and saw the vampire perched on her little balcony. He told her that he needed to speak to her urgently as her magic had been found on a murdered werewolf and if she didn't he would go to the Conclave and request to be able to do a blood truth on her to get the answers he wanted. Jade did not know what he was on about. She wasn't a witch who did spells, she was a Douser, she could find objects which gave out the smallest residue of magic, which is what she did and with them she made them into trinkets. She had some adorning shop windows. There was nothing lethal about them. She told him so and he left telling her he would be back.

Rattled, Jade got herself ready to go to the restaurant and disco that she had agreed to accompany her foster sister Sienna, who was a half-witch like herself and Sienna’s boyfriend Rusty, whose birthday it was. By the time Jade had got to the disco she was feeling much better and managed by dancing to give herself up to the magic that was coming from all the other Adept in the room. Magic was drawn to Jade; it filled her up, making her feel great and then she found herself being surrounded by three Adepts dancing around her. With strong magic coming off them, she realized then that they were werewolves. Then weaving himself through the other dancers she saw him. So good looking, muscled chest and dark short cropped hair and a dazzling smile. Jade felt his potent magic as he moved closer to her.

“He tasted of expensive dark chocolate - fine smooth, citrus middle notes, and a clean nose with no after taste.”

He was gorgeous. He touched her hips as they danced. The wolves surrounded them but she was not afraid even though she should be. The magic increased as they danced. He introduced himself, his name was Hudson, and he wanted to see her back home. Even though she was very tempted, as her love life had been virtually non-existent for a long while, she had been brought up by her Gran, a very strong witch in her own right, not to mix magic’s and had to turn him down telling him that witches and wolves did not mix but he told her he would not give up.

This is the very beginning of a very captivating story. You will find that Jades life will never be the same again and it makes a story you cannot put down. It has everything you could wish for going for it and Jade makes it come alive. The vampire makes it interesting as well. He is an unusual vampire with a minty tasting aura that drives Jade mad.

It is well worth the read and a great start to I bet a really great series. Love your writing Ms Doidge.

Review ~ STOP by Alison G Bailey

Book Description:

Every life has a different path full of sharp turns, smooth curves, and steep drop offs.

Hollis Murphy has a plan—college, career, boyfriend, love, marriage, family. A predictable, normal life. She’s on track until an outside force causes her to crash and burn. They call it an accident, because that’s the only word they know to explain what happens to her. It helps everyone move on with their lives, except for Hollis. She holds on to the belief that she’s been targeted for a reason.

Risher Stevenson is intelligent, caring, sweet, and the hottest boy Hollis has ever laid eyes on. He fits perfectly into her original plan for a normal life. Everyone loves him.

Benton Daniels is intelligent, caring, sweet, and the bravest boy Hollis has ever met. He doesn’t fit into her life but gives it purpose and makes it extraordinary. Everyone hates him.

One is bullied. One is tormented. All are judged. How will it STOP?

***ARC received for an honest review***

“...it’s your job to develop your heart and intellect. Your outside will develop on its own.”

This book deals with some tough issues, but as in true Alison Bailey style it is done with heart and class. While some scenes had me in tears, the overall love story had me page turning and I couldn’t put this book down. This is more a YA/NA read, if you want a passionate read then this is not it, but this is a slow burn love, believable, full of questions and self-doubt but with good reason and all I can say is, thank god for the epilogue!

“I loved him then and I still love him. And if I can love him through all of that, why can’t he love me through all of this.”

Hollis was a beautiful character both inside and out, but for the past year she had had a tough time of it and her life was to never be the same, one life altering event that would forever shape her as a person and the opinions of those around her. Starting college is always a big step for any person, but for a girl that was extremely self-conscious and always having that mantra hanging around your head of fitting in and being accepted, college was always going to be a tough ride. Girls can be so mean, that is no secret and having been on the end of it myself I sympathised with Hollis unequivocally. Hollis was strong though, she stood up for herself, she had barbs at the ready but in secret, behind closed doors, the weight of everything would sometimes get her down.

Risher, O.M.G, one thing that Alison Bailey excels in is creating the perfect man, Risher had me swooning BIG TIME! This was a guy that was popular, all the girls wanted him, he was stunning both inside and out, but from the moment they bumped into each other, Risher only had eyes for Hollis. This was a man that knew beauty was only skin deep, he didn’t look at the outside, he wanted what was on the inside, he wasn’t superficial, he was a gentleman, he was perfect. He knew that Hollis had issues, but he worked around them, he gained her trust, he went softly-softly and this is exactly what Hollis needed. He was genuine, he was thoughtful, he wore his heart on his sleeve, he was fiercely protective, he was literally PERFECT!

I loved Hollis’s room-mate Abigail, while in the first instance she came across as prickly it soon becomes apparent she has her own issues to contend with and a problem shared is a problem and halved and it isn’t long before these two are as thick as thieves, they had each other’s back, always. This epitomises an Alison Bailey read...friendship.

“Things are not always black and white, Abigail. There’s a lot of grey in the world.”

Every single one these characters has their flaws, their insecurities, their issues. All they want from life is to be seen for who they are, not what they are or what they represent. They just want acceptance and to be treated as a normal, human being, not much to ask...but you would be surprised. Between mean girls and awful parents these three have their work cut out but the way they work through it will have your emotions all over the place.

“Stretch your mind, open your heart, and expand your understanding.”

As Mark Twain once said “The worst loneliness is not to be comfortable with yourself.”

I am not going to say anything about the plot as this is one of those books that needs to be read blind, know it will be emotional, know it covers some tough issues and expect the unexpected. But also know that this book is full of life lessons and ones that we can take away from, this book makes you think, re-evaluate, re-assess and I love a book that makes you think. You will run the gamut of emotions from like, love, anger, compassion, hate and despair. You will be laughing one minute and crying the next, from happy, to sad, to shocked, to swooning. This book has it all, yes it is a rollercoaster, but it is exactly like the ride itself, once you are on you can’t get off, you take the ups and the downs, and you take the rough with the smooth but at the end you will be smiling because you have just been on the ride of your life.

“Never Discuss Infinity with a Mathematician. You’ll never hear the end of it.”

Excerpt:

FOUR WEEKS

I’ve never been so hopeful as when I board the pristine glass elevator at the M4 corporate building. A handful of employees ride along with me, murmuring perfunctory greetings to each other and to me. I think my mouth must be on vacation because I can’t seem to force it to speak. But I smile in reply—my smile nervous, nervous but hopeful, definitely hopeful. My riding companions step out on their floors one by one until I’m alone, riding up to the executive floor on my own.

Toward him.

Toward the man I love.

My body is raging. My blood is pumping—my blood is storming—my thighs are shaking. My stomach feels filled with little earthquakes that just won’t quit, then they turn into a full-fledged roil when I hear the elevator ting at his floor.

Stepping out, I’m in corporate nirvana, surrounded by sleek chrome and pristine glass, marble and limestone floors. But I hardly have eyes for anything except the tall and imposing frosted glass doors at the far end of the room.

Framing those doors to each side is a pair of sleek designer desks, for a total of four.

Behind these desks are four women in identical black-and-white suits, sitting behind their gleaming dark-oak desks, working quietly behind their flat-screen computers.

One of them, the forty-year-old Catherine H. Ulysses—right hand of the man who owns every inch of this building—stops what she’s doing when she sees me. She arches her brow, then seems both tense and relieved as she lifts the receiver on her desk and murmurs my name into it.

I. Am. Not. Breathing.

But Catherine doesn’t miss a beat as she motions me toward the huge frosted doors—those intimidating doors—that lead into the lair of the most powerful man in Chicago.

The human being with the most powerful effect on me.

This is what I’ve been waiting for, for four weeks. This is what I wanted when I left a thousand messages on his phones and what I wanted when I wrote a thousand others that I left unsent. To see him.

For him to want to see me.

But as I force myself to step forward, I don’t even know if I’ll have the strength to stand before him and look him in the eye after what I did.

I’m wracked so hard with nervousness and anticipation and hope—yes hope, small but bright, even as I shake like a leaf.

Catherine holds the door open, and I struggle to hold my head high and walk into his office.

Two steps inside I hear the swoosh of the glass door shutting behind me and my systems halt at the familiar sight of the most beautiful office I’ve ever been in.

His office is all vast marble and chrome, twelve-foot ceilings, and endless floor-to-ceiling windows.

And there he is. The center of its axis. The center of my world.

He’s pacing by the window, speaking into a headset in a low, low voice—the kind he uses when he’s pissed. All I can make out are the words have to be dead to let her fall into his clutches …

He hangs up, and as if he feels me in the room, he turns his head. His eyes flare when he sees me. His green eyes.

His achingly familiar, beautiful green eyes.

He inhales, very slowly, his chest expanding, his hands curling a little at his sides as he looks at me.

I look back at him.

Malcolm Kyle Preston Logan Saint.

I just walked into the eye of the most powerful storm of my life. No. Not a storm. A hurricane.

Four weeks, I haven’t seen him. And he still looks exactly as I remember. Larger than life, and more irresistible than ever.

His striking face is perfectly shaven today, and his sensual lips look so achingly full I can almost feel them against mine. Six-feet-plus of perfectly controlled male power stand before me, in a perfect black suit and a killer tie. He’s the very devil in Armani; strong-boned, square-jawed, gleaming dark hair and those penetrating eyes.

He’s got the best eyes.

They twinkle mercilessly when he teases me, and when he doesn’t tease me, they’re mysterious and unreadable, assessing and intelligent, keeping me guessing about his thoughts.

But I had forgotten how cold those eyes used to be. Green arctic ice looks back at me now. Every fleck of ice in those eyes gleaming like diamond shards.

He clenches his jaw and tosses the headset aside.

He looks as approachable as a wall, his shoulders stretching his white shirt, which clings to his skin like a groupie. But I know he’s not a wall; I’ve never wanted to throw myself at a wall like this.

He’s walking towards me. Every step he takes makes my heart pound as he moves with that quiet and confident own-the-world stride of his.

He stops a few feet away and shoves his hands into his pants pockets; and he seems so big all of a sudden, and he smells so utterly good. I drop my eyes to his tie as the little candle of hope I walked in with starts to flicker with doubt.

Review ~ The Ground Rules by Roya Carmen

Reviewed by Donna ~ 5 stars

“Trust me, Ella, a man knows when a guy wants to fuck his wife.”

I originally gave this book 4.5 stars, but even days later I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it, talking about, pimping it, so I have added that extra half, this is definitely deserving of a five star read. I can’t tell you how I felt while reading this book, the blurb did it for me, I was pulled in, hook, line and sinker and from the first word to the last I was hooked, entranced and totally consumed by this story. In all the books I have read I cannot remember ever reading about “a couple exchange.” A mutual agreement between two couples to exclusively swap partners on a regular basis. Personally I couldn’t do it, I couldn’t deal with the emotional side, although as the blurb states, I would have already broken one of the rules.

How can something that feels so wrong actually read so right? This is because of the author’s voice, those emotions that she manages to elicit effortlessly while totally consuming you with a story that draws you in so deep, time ceases to exist. Before I knew it I had finished the book, looked at the clock and it was 3.30am, it is not often that happens, this girl needs her sleep.

“I get it. You’re not mine. You never will be.”

Mirella and Gabe were childhood sweethearts, are married and have two daughters. They have a healthy sex life but the usual parenting gets in the way of couple time. Feeling a little low Mirella suggests a date night and because Gabe was the lovely husband he was, he sets up a date at a posh restaurant and really goes to town. It is here that they meet Bridget and Weston. Gabe’s reservation gets lost and Bridget and Weston’s other friends are a no show so they decide to share a table and here a friendship is born.

These two couples are complete opposites, Mirella and Gabe are your usual middle class couple, Mirella was a primary school teacher. Weston and Bridget are powerful and super rich and they exude class. Over the course of the meal it is obvious that they all get on really well, also they are all more than interested in each other’s spouses. It seems that Mirella and Gabe have left a lasting impression on Bridget and Weston.

“I think both of us know, deep inside...our relationship is about to change.”

Bridget and Weston reach out to Mirella and Gabe and it seems that they are no wallflowers when it comes to their sex lives, summoning Mirella to a meeting it is here that the “Couple Exchange,” is put on the table and after much discussion and hesitation, Mirella and Gabe agree thinking that this could spice up their love life. Mirella was reticent at first, she has only ever been with Gabe, but the allure of Weston was too strong, he is the first man she has been attracted to since Gabe, she felt it needed to be explored.

“I still want him. As much as I wanted to end this, I’m still willing to put everything on the line – my sanity, my marriage, my heart.”

This book is written from Mirella’s POV, you go through her thoughts and emotions in detail, her apprehension, her reticence, her panic, her pro’s, her con’s, she truly was troubled. It is through this POV though that you understand that calling that Weston had to her, at first he seems aloof and guarded but as their dates progress the real Weston makes his appearance and through those little glimmers you get to see the man underneath and I loved him. I certainly felt that it is Bridget that wears the trousers in their relationship, for some reason I just felt that he could just be him when he was with Mirella, slowly but surely he lets his walls down, until he remembers the rules.

“You are a man of contradictions.”

“You are the king of delayed gratification.”

I can’t really talk much about this one, you just need to put your big girl panties on and dive in. This is the first book in a trilogy and at the end you are just left wanting more. I would love to get into Weston’s head and also Gabe’s. What do these men really think? Are they truly happy? Are they really as blasé about this as they appear to be? I feel the Weston ripples and we know what Mirella thinks, she has broken so many rules already.

“I want this to last forever.”

The palpitations, the will they won’t they, the is it or isn’t it, that attraction, all consuming, addictive, the unique storyline all made for a fantastic read. You cannot help but get involved; you cannot help but want the unexpected. I really need to know what Weston really thinks, this is eating at me, he is so hot and cold, he has that push and pull, and his actions say one thing one minute and the total opposite the next. It is these actions and reactions that are so confusing, but is this a sign of what is really going through his mind. Is he just as conflicted as his thoughts and actions? Gahhhhh, I seriously need more, like NOW!! I NEED to know what happens, this next book cannot come soon enough. Roya Carmen what have you done to me!! So, so good, get 1clicking and join the crazy train, my shoulder is here should you feel the need to discuss...also read the excerpt for book 2 at the end...ha ha ha, now you have read it, you can thank me (insert evil laugh!)

Excerpt:

The loud bang on the garage doors scared the shit out of, making me jump out of my skin. “Shit,” I yelled after hitting my head on the bumper. Despite calling out, “One second,” the banging continued. More than a little dizzy, my anger mounted as I walked toward the door. “Chill the fuck out,” I muttered as I wiped my hands on a work rag. The row of windows stretching through the mid-line of the door was tinted so that only someone on the inside could see out. They were designed that way so anyone peering into the shop wouldn’t be able to see what kind of cars were parked inside—a security tip I offered to Paulie after I’d started working here.

The man standing on the other side must not have heard me because he continued his relentless banging. At this rate, I’d be surprised if his knuckles weren’t all bloody and cut up.

Knowing he couldn’t see me did nothing to stop me from staying to the side. My initial intention was simply to check out who the hell was trying to break down my door. The last thing I needed was some psychopath ruining my night, but as I peered out the window, the last thought running through my mind was that he was a psycho.

Dressed in a modern grey suit, he was the epitome of class. The baby blue shirt underneath made his eyes pop, of course the anger simmering there amplified them as well. Pinching the bridge of his nose, he looked like he was trying to ward off some massive headache. Either he really was a psychopath, playing his part of the deception perfectly, or he was in a bind and genuinely in need of help. Watching him run his fingers through his thick dark brown hair, he let out a deep huff of breath. The door muffled his words, but I swear I heard him say, “Just my fucking luck.”

Having uttered that phrase more than a few times in my own life, I decided I’d let him in and see what he needed. The fact that my dick was twitching in my pants at the mere sight of him didn’t hurt his case much either.

He stood at attention as he listened to me unclicking the locks. The doors rolled open revealing his long, lean frame. This guy was money. It was written all over him, from his shirt to his shoes, from his shiny cufflinks to the BMW key dangling from his finger.

“Can I help you?” My voice was gruff, and I hoped he thought it was from his less than polite request to be seen, rather than the reaction I was having to him.

He eyed me, scanning my body from head to toe. Annoyance was written all over his face and my attraction quickly morphed into annoyance. “Excuse me,” I prompted when he still hadn’t spoken a single word. “You knocked on my door. Is there something I can help you with?”

“Uh, yeah,” he answered, running his hands through his hair once again. “Hit a pothole down the road,” he explained somewhat distractedly. He pointed in the direction in which I assumed his damaged car sat.

“Let me grab the keys to the tow truck.” Walking away from him, I felt his stare on my back.

By the time I walked back out of the office, he was gone. “What the hell?” I mumbled to myself, wondering where the hell he’d gone. For a split second, I actually wondered if I’d conjured him up from thin air to keep myself occupied as I closed the shop by myself. But the smell of his cologne still hung in the air, his heat like a shadow lingering in the open space.

“I knew he was never going to be the person who completes me. He was the person who helped me realize that I was complete on my own, flaws and all.”

I do love M/M books and I can’t for the life of me remember why I was so apprehensive when I dived into my first many moons ago. There is something about the connection in these books that melts my heart, everything is more intense and it is for this reason that I am an M/M addict. This was another one of those reads, that intense connection, it gave me the flutters and once again I was championing these two men.

“I’d tried for so long to hide that same look, that same anger at being trapped in a life you’d give anything to escape.”

Liam and Parker were as opposite as opposite can be, but then we all know that saying how opposites attract...even though their first meeting was far from smooth, even then I felt that sizzle, saw them fireworks and you just knew that if these two ever got together it would be intense and I was so right, this was intense.

“You’ve got a simple choice here. Accept him for who he is and what he had or use who he is to push away from him. What you choose says a lot more about yourself than it ever will about him.”

Liam was a runaway and throughout the book you are trying to figure out why and what he was running from, you have an idea but nothing is truly revealed until a pivotal moment and the build up to this stopped my heart. It was heart breaking. Liam was lucky, he was found, starving, dirty and desperate and was taken in by a man that had the hugest heart and became Liam’s one and only friend. He gave Liam a job and a job that Liam has remained in for over ten years. Their friendship is strong and he is the father type figure that Liam never had.

“Running away is never the easy choice...it means you must have had a really good reason for doing so and you were brave enough to do something about it.”

Parker is a lawyer, a lawyer that is a partner in his father’s firm. A man he doesn’t get on with, a man who hardly recognises him, a man who really despises him, a man who just sees him as a regret as a mistake. Parker tries so hard to make his father love him, respect him, it is heart breaking and when the real feelings finally come out, it was truly devastating.

“All I could focus on was that the man before me, who was once so afraid of what the future held, was now grabbing it by the reins and making it his bitch.”

Both of these men crave acceptance, they each have their issues, Liam more so than Parker but Liam is reserved, he is a hard nut to crack, he requires perseverance and thank god that Parker had the patience of a saint. Parker, in the beginning came across as the cocky, arrogant arse that you would expect from a lawyer, he does himself no favours, but underneath that false bravado is an extremely endearing man. Liam himself has a façade to break down and once Liam and Parker find the men underneath, sparks fly and they were truly amazing together. Sometimes you can just tell, you know that moment when you know they are “the one.” This really came across in this story; you knew this was the be all and end all for these two. Neither were looking for it, but it hit them over the head and in the heart anyways and while they have their issues to work through, they both took the time.

“He didn’t only need to give up control, he needed to give it to someone who could be responsible enough to take it, yet caring enough to earn it.”

I loved how these two discover each other, the time they take to “find” each other, that voyage of discovery. It is slow; it is intense and was truly beautiful. Issues that take time to break down, deal with and finally put away, that giving and receiving of complete trust, that handing yourself over, mind, body and soul. It was real, it was tangible, I felt every brick come down and with every one your heart beats that bit quicker. I was willing these two on, I wanted them to succeed.

“Because you’ve made yourself a part of my life. Whether you know it or not, your quiet strength has helped me start to fix some of my broken pieces.”

We have dark pasts that are dealt with sympathetically and empathetically, men that have never felt loved, never felt wanted and at times this was heart-breaking. This book may contain triggers for some but as I said above, it was not done for gratification, it felt like a real story, panning out before your eyes. My only little critique was that I felt one piece of the puzzle fell a little too conveniently, but overall this was an extremely addictive read. A book that once I started, I couldn’t stop until the last word was read. I had tears and I had smiles but at the end I knew that I read a great book, a story that I will remember and one that I loved wholeheartedly. I highlighted so much of this book; I love this author’s voice.

Blog Tour ~ On My Knees (Stark International Trilogy #2) by J Kenner

Book Description:

Jackson Steele and Sylvia Brooks continue to thrill in the second novel of a scintillating, emotionally charged new trilogy that returns to the world of J. Kenner’s beloved Stark novels: Release Me, Claim Me, and Complete Me.

I never thought I’d lose control, but his desire took me right to the edge.

Powerful, ambitious, and devastatingly sexy, Jackson Steele was unlike any other man I’d ever known. He went after what he wanted with his whole mind, body, and soul—and I was the woman in his sights. One touch and I surrendered, one night together and I was undone.

Jackson and I had secrets, dark pieces of our pasts that threatened to swallow us both. We couldn’t outrun our demons, or the people trying to tear us apart. But in our passion we found salvation, and in each other’s arms we found release.

I was scared to trust Jackson fully, to finally let go. Yet no matter the dangers that lay ahead, I knew I was his—and now that we’ve laid claim, there’s no more holding back.

On My Knees is intended for mature audiences.

“...they could fight their demons together. Yin and yang. Control and submission. Pleasure and pain. And on and on and on until they sent each other spiralling over that invisible line where it all became the same. Where pain gave way to pleasure, and control revealed itself to be nothing more than surrender.”

This book starts where Say My Name finished, this is the second book in this trilogy which is the story of Jackson and Sylvia and is a spin off from J Kenner’s “Stark Trilogy.” I must admit, I was literally On My Knees by the end of this and I am in desperate need of Under my Skin.

This book is full of twists and turns as we build up to the grand finale. Some of these twists I saw coming but for the majority I was blindsided. J Kenner certainly knows how to toy with your head and your emotions and this was one roller coaster of a ride.

This is a story of secrets and omissions, some are revealed and others are left to fester leaving you with that overwhelming sense of foreboding as you are reading. It is that gut-wrenching anticipation that carries you through this book while you are waiting for the secrets to drop and then wondering what the aftermath will be. I had my heart in my mouth.

This is also a voyage of discovery for these two, reconnecting and learning to balance those fine lines between business and pleasure. There is no doubt in their compatibility sexually, I mean these two combust the pages, but with secrets between them it reeks of mistrust and it is this that I see as a potential stumbling for the both of them.

“I’ve said it every day since I saw you. I say it in the way I look at you. The way I touch you. The way I never stop thinking about you. I’ve said that I love you a million times, Sylvia. This is just the first time I’ve said it out loud.”

Sylvia is more open in this book, eventually she does confide in Jackson but will Jackson do the same? He seems to have more skeletons and it is these skeletons that cause the most problems. With the biggest secret of them all out in the open it was easy to see why Jackson was the way he was and goes some way to rationalising the animosity between Jackson and Damien. But this secret also leads to questions, questions of loyalties and again this brings about that mistrust, but one thing we know about Damien is that he is level headed and I loved the way this was dealt with.

“I’m not weak, I tell myself again. Because the more I say it, the more I believe it. I’m strong. Hasn’t Jackson told me so over and over and over?”

I know I am being vague, but with books like these that are plot driven it would be a crime to give anything away. In true J Kenner style we have that perfect balance of angst, suspense and heat. While lots of questions are answered, lots of questions remain and with that ending you just know that there is a lot more to come in Under My Skin. I have a feeling that with Damien’s experience with what we are now faced all will be OK, but now I have to wait and the wait is going to be agonising.
“Dude, you screwed up so bad you’re going to need Black & Decker to fix the damage.”

Once again, another great instalment and as usual it was great to catch up with Damien and Nikki. Have loved this series, and if you are not familiar with Damien Stark then get reading, it was he who got me started on my J Kenner journey.

“Alex was my love – dark and dangerous.”

Well, Rebecca Shea certainly packed an emotional punch with this one, when I could read between the tears, the blurry eyes and the pathetic excuse of a reader that I had become I was totally and utterly transfixed with this instalment. This is the conclusion to this series and picks up right where Broken by Lies finished. This book takes no prisoners, you dive straight into the aftermath of the cliff hanger we were left with and you need to hit the floor running...or crying as in my case.

“Pain. That’s all I’m capable of feeling in this moment. My lungs burn. My heart aches. My head screams.

Physical.
Mental.
Emotional.
Pain.
That’s all I feel.”

I found myself messaging the author throughout, I needed to vent, I mean, she was cruel, she was horrible, how could she do this to me? But that was the beauty of the start of this book, you had no time to think, that fear and rush of the ending of book 1 comes flooding back, those emotions, that fear that trepidation and it literally crushes you. You are assaulted from the start and it doesn’t get any easier as the story progresses. Just when you think all is well, bam, she does it again. So be prepared, tissues, wine, alcohol, chocolate, ice-cream, whatever floats your boat, stock up on it, because you are going to need it.

“Safe. I should feel safe in his arms, but the only arms I want around me are Alex’s.”

In this book you just need to expect the unexpected, is anyone who they seem? Emilia is stuck; she knows that the fall out is not going to be good, she knows that she will most likely be the next target so she needs to stay safe, but who can she trust? Everything she thought she knew has been turned on its head, she is distraught, she is scared, she is alone or is she?

Sam, the man, or is he? Again, another one of those characters that has his issues but tries to not let them get in the way of doing his job, but Emilia has never been just a “job.” He has fallen in love with her but he knows the chances are his feelings will never be reciprocated. He seems to be the ideal man as her protector, but will emotions get in the way, especially when the person he has to protect becomes even more valuable?

“I wonder to myself how many times she’s heard that lie, and if I’ll ever be able to truly protect her.”

I love that we got more of Alex and Sam’s back story. We knew they were estranged but what had really happened to get them there? We got answers and I have to say, one bit that was revealed, really changed my opinion of Sam, it actually brought tears to my eyes.

This is one of those books that you cannot review without giving away too much of the story. So I will have to be brief. This instalment is extremely plot driven, ends are tied up (some conveniently), but you never know where you stand until the end. Rebecca Shea keeps the proverbial carrot on a string dangling till the conclusion and while you chase said carrot, your head and emotions will go through the wringer. This book was way more emotional, but this was to be expected considering the ending of book one, but they are ever changing, grief, empathy, sympathy, betrayal, love, hate, more love, it’s never ending but what a read, what an ending and what an epilogue!!

This would have been a five star read for me, but as I said above, some bits were tied up a bit too conveniently and lost their impact because you could see it coming, but I will add, not until the scene was starting. However, despite the emotional turmoil Rebecca Shea put me through I was happy by the end, I may have still had the red eyes, but I was smiling. This was a great two book series and one that I can highly recommend for those that love romantic suspense, with a mafia twist.

“We were all bound by my lies, Em. But not anymore. There are no more lies. There never will be.”

Review ~ Grey (Fifty Shades, #4) by EL James

Reviewed by Donna ~ 3.5-4 stars

“That means I’m competing with Darcy, Rochester, and Angel Clare: impossible romantic heroes.”

If I was reviewing this book from the heart like I did the previous three books, without a doubt I would have said a 5, after all, this is Christian Grey and I am a HUGE Fifty Shades fan. Say what you want about the style of writing, the content etc: no-one can take away that EL James brought with these books a whole new audience of readers and in hand brought to us readers a plethora of whole new authors and some awesome books, for that I am truly grateful.

“I want so much from her: her trust, her obedience, her submission. I want her to be mine, but right now...I’m hers.”

Since reading the Fifty Shades of Grey Trilogy I have become a blogger, so for now I am putting on my blogging hat and giving an honest review, as this is something I have always prided myself on and while it is my opinion, it is just that, my opinion.

“My mood lifted as I head to the hotel gym. She sent me a kiss...”

I was eagerly anticipating this book, once it had been announced; I was counting down the days. This was a great platform for us readers to finally get inside Christian’s head, see what made him tick, what he thought, his feelings, his emotions, his internal ramblings and how he battled with what he thought he knew he wanted and what ultimately, it turned out he did want. EL James could have really developed this side of his character and I for one wanted to know the “real” Christian Grey.

“Only when the last leaf has fallen, the last tree has died, and the last fish been caught will we realize that we cannot eat money.”

The first half of the book is slow going I have to admit. For me, I felt there was just too much repetitiveness from Fifty Shades of Grey and not enough new content. I was desperate for more, but the little snippets that we were given showed me a new side to Christian, he actually made me laugh. With the amount of time they spent apart in this book, I was hoping for more and for me personally we got some, but not enough.

“Plus ça change plus c'est la même chose – the more things change the more they stay the same.”

We do get to see some of his past through his nightmares and these happened more often than you ever thought and it was these nightmares that truly brought home just how scared, afraid and hungry “little Christian” was, these scenes were heart-breaking. As his relationship with Ana progresses though you do see these dreams change and that just goes to show the positive impact that she was having on him. This also showed me that in the beginning, she wasn’t just a new “sub” even his inner psyche was telling him that Ana was different; he just needed to realise it.

“Fuck. I’m on a precipice. Okay, Grey, are you sure about this? I have to try. I don’t want to lose her before we start. Jump.”

The next forty percent flowed much better; I had forgotten just how much I loved the email banter between these two. While the e-mails remain the same, Christian’s thoughts while composing them and receiving them were hilarious at times and these brought a huge smile to my face. It is in this forty percent that EL James gives us that little bit more. It is here that Christian becomes more personable, more relatable and just more human. I would have expected him to be more dominant in his thoughts, after all, this was the man we were led to believe him to be, but at times he just came across a bit wimpy, but it was wimpy in a good way. It just proved that he wasn’t the tough guy his façade gave him, he had a heart, and he had feelings, even though he kept them buried.

“Because you never stay with me...Six words. Six little words that make my scalp tingle...”

The last ten percent was heaven; this was what I had been waiting for, new material. EL James gives us the time Christian spent on his own after Fifty Shades of Grey ended. We experience his capitulation after Ana leaves and it truly broke my heart. This is where finally, I became a sobbing mess. We got his heart and soul in words and finally, it was here that I saw the “real” Christian. We also get to see how pivotal Dr Flynn was in Christian’s eureka moment and as was so unlike Christian, who had literally given up, we get to see him decide to fight.

“Her blazing eyes see everything. See me. She sees the darkness and the monster beneath. Her eyes widen in horror and suddenly she disappears.”

The last ten percent was an amazing read and truly made this book. I understand that authors always take a chance re-hashing an iconic book, everyone knows that story, how can you keep the reader captivated enough to read it all again? While EL James delivered in some respects, on the other hand I felt it wasn’t enough in the beginning and I can see a lot of people giving up because they don’t have that perseverance. I am so glad though that I continued although it never once crossed my mind to stop reading. I hope EL James continues with Christian’s POV, although the story remains the same I will never tire of getting his perspective. It is those little one liners, as fleeting as they were that gave us those little insights and they are addictive. I appreciate that this one won’t be for everybody, but if you are a Fifty Shades of Grey fan then you will love it.

“I sink slowly to the floor and out my head in my hands. The void is now cavernous and aching, overwhelming me. Grey, what the hell have you done?”

Friday Frights ~ PNR Review ~ Hungry Like the Wolf (S.W.A.T Book 1) by Paige Tyler

Reviewed by Shirley ~ 5 stars

What a brilliant first book to start off what could be a superb series. Hot, hot males and one very determined woman. The woman in this book is one Mackenzie Stone, a journalist with a Dallas newspaper. One very intrepid lady, nothing was too frightening to Mackenzie as long as she got to the truth and a good story and in this book she was onto the SWAT team. She was following a tip who had said they, the team, had to be on enhancement drugs to do what they had done to him, it wasn't normal.

The SWAT team in question was full of very hot guys. Very tall, with broad shoulders, huge biceps and they were very good looking, but unbeknown to Mackenzie they did have a secret to hide just not the one she thought but one they would keep secret at all costs. Wherever there was a dangerous situation, the local PD called in the SWAT team and they got it sorted quickly, efficiently and in their way.

The book really starts with Mackenzie and her fellow photographer chasing after the team onto one of their call outs. Mackenzie being Mackenzie wasn't content in looking from a safe distance, she has to go in closer and manages to get into trouble needing one of the team to extricate her and then taking her to safety all in the presence of the team leader, Sergeant Gage Dixon.

When meeting him all Mackenzie noticed was...

“His big muscles and mesmerizing eyes. Dark hair, chiselled jaw, and sensuous mouth, he was downright devastating. She was especially captivated by his eyes. They were the color of dark honey. Or maybe fine whiskey. Either way, it was too easy to get lost in their depths.”

He had her, knowing she had been snooping for a story and called her out on it. During the conversation it turned to flirting between them and the most surprising thing was Gage inviting Mackenzie to the compound so that she could look round and write her story which when the rest of the team found out he had given her permission to do this, they were not happy about it.

The story also tells you how tight the team are or pack as Gage thinks of them. These characters are entertaining in what they come out with and give the story depth.

The attraction between Gage and Mackenzie builds especially when Gage gets a proper look at Mackenzie...

“She was supermodel beautiful with long, shiny hair, curves in all the right places and a killer smile that could make a man do stupid things.”

But he had to be careful around her; he had to protect his pack. It starts off with a dinner date at a very expensive restaurant, with a lot of leg rubbing and footsie under the table, which made Mackenzie quite hot and bothered, he brought out her inner seductress and Gage reciprocated.

“Gage made slow, little circles on her knee with his finger. He never ventured more than an inch or two up her thigh-even though she silently prayed he would - but it still felt heavenly. The tingling she'd felt before had disappeared, replaced by a warm rush of heat between her thighs.”

And at the end progressing to a smouldering...

“Gage took her slowly, sliding his thickness deep with steady; even strokes that made her whole body tremble. He moved in and out of her over and over, and the whole time, he gazed down at her with those vivid gold eyes.

This story is not short of plenty of action, not only between Gage and Mackenzie but with everything going on surrounding the SWAT team and also the danger facing Mackenzie and with one very bad individual causing a lot of grief for one and all.

I really enjoyed this book; it kept my interest from start to finish. Great bit of writing Ms Tyler.
