Review ~ Birthday Suit by Lauren Blakely

Book Description:

There is no rule in the Man Code as unbreakable as this: no matter how beautiful, smart, clever, and witty she is, do not—under any circumstances—fall in love with your best friend’s woman.
Yeah. So there’s that. Look, it’s not like I didn’t know I screwed up by falling for her.
Also, for the record, unrequited love sucks big time.
And, I might have cut myself some slack by now, given everything that went down in the last few years, but Lulu just walked back into my life in a big way.

***
There are three things I've never been able to resist—my friends, my family, and chocolate.
Leo Hennessy? He was nowhere on that list. He's been a true friend—a friend who walked through hell and back with me.
Now, I'm stepping into my new future. I didn't expect it to include a riddle-filled, race-against-the-clock scavenger hunt across New York City.
With Leo.
Suddenly, I'm looking at this man with new eyes...
But my life spun out because of a man once before, and I can’t risk my fresh start, no matter what the temptation. And Leo is most definitely a temptation of the sexiest, sweetest, and most dangerous variety.
More irresistibly delicious than chocolate...

“…there is no organ more susceptible to trickery, subterfuge, or sabotage than the heart. Embrace it, treat it as something precious, and be very wary of it.”

Lauren Blakely never fails to deliver and Birthday Suit is no exception. This was a great friends to lovers read with a touch of the forbidden romance thrown in. Lauren Blakely’s characters are always relatable, and these two will capture your heart from the very beginning. Mancode is always written in stone, and our hero took a step back when he realised the woman that he was falling for was more interested in his best friend. Over a decade of unrequited love seriously hurts, but when circumstances and fate throw these two together once again, can they think of their future rather than their past?

Sometimes timing sucks, and it never sucked harder for Leo. The girl that he had been crushing on and chatting to on the regular meets his best friend for the first time, and the sparks fly. The trio become the three amigos and standing on the sidelines while your best friend gets the girl of your dreams was no mean feat. It hurt, and hurt bad. Being both their best friend for over a decade only ingrains that hurt and makes it fester. Leo was such a great friend to both of them, always there, reliable and only had their best interests at heart even if that meant his own fell by the wayside.

“I took my own vow that day. No matter what, I had to get over her. There were no runners-up in love.”

LuLu has had it tough and now leaving NYC and moving to California she gets the job of her dreams. A master chocolatier, a flair for recipes that tingle every taste bud, LuLu is in her element and being reunited with her best friend, Leo was the icing on the proverbial cake. Having been single for a while, LuLu isn’t blind, and when she sees Leo for the first time, thoughts she had never had come to the forefront, when had she become so blind?

Lauren Blakely touches on all your emotions in this book as Leo and LuLu carefully navigate their feelings and try to shake off their past. A past that keeps pulling Leo back. When the woman of your dreams is presented before you, you feel like all your Christmases have come at once, but there is always that niggling doubt with Leo. Leo faces the biggest battle of his life… heart vs. conscience.

“You’re a dream chaser. A go-getter. Have you found your dreams?”
“Most of them. Some slipped away though.”

Leo was swoon-worthy with a capital S, and I dare anyone not to fall for his heart of gold and his effortless charm. LuLu was a character that had learned from her mistakes and to see her take her life back by the horns was fantastic. With some great secondary characters there was nothing I didn’t love, and by the end, I didn’t want to leave these two. Such a cute read.

Review ~ Misadventures on the Rebound by Lauren Rowe

Book Description:

***MISADVENTURES ARE STANDALONE ROMANCES THAT CAN BE READ IN ANY ORDER***

After getting canned from her dream job this morning and played in spectacular fashion by her boyfriend this afternoon, Savannah “Savvy” Valentine is having a truly awful day. Which is why she’s currently drowning her sorrows in whiskey and self-pity in a shabby bar along the route to Las Vegas.

In light of today’s double whammy, Savvy isn’t sure why she’s still heading in the direction of her five-year high school reunion. The only reason she’d wanted to attend the reunion in Vegas in the first place was to show the captain of the football team, the guy who took her virginity and then promptly rejected her, that the captain of the math team grew up to have all enviable hot things: hot body, hot boyfriend, and hot career. Now, the only “hot” thing about Savvy Valentine is her mess.

But when a gorgeous stranger with sandy hair, a leather jacket, and motorcycle helmet walks into the bar, Savvy’s awful day suddenly looks a whole lot brighter. The man is perfection. Sexy and mysterious. And he’s heading to Las Vegas, too.

Can one wild night with a sexy stranger in the middle of nowhere lead a girl to fall desperately and deeply in love in Las Vegas? Savvy Valentine is about to find out.

“You’re imprinted on my heart forever.”

Lauren Rowe delivers another fabulous read with Misadventures on the Rebound. Character driven, hilarious yet adorable and cute, there is something for everyone in this book as one craptastic day takes this heroine on a ride she will never, ever forget.

Savannah Valentine is currently in a job she loves, she works hard, and has huge aspirations and yet as she goes into work at the beginning of this book, her life changes when she is let go. Upset and worried for her financial future, Savannah goes home and then finds her boyfriend is doing the dirty on her. Could this day get any worse? Savannah was a fantastic heroine, incredibly clever, a little naïve and low on the street smarts, but this only made her more endearing. Down on her luck, and upset, Savannah takes off to her high school reunion in Las Vegas, even though it is the last place she wants to be, but it takes her away from her current situation and at least will bring a little respite.

“I said I have no street smarts, Aiden. I didn’t say I’m a moron.”

Stopping en-route in a bar, Savannah has a chance encounter with one hot as sin man, a night definitely to remember, the perfect, dreamlike rebound, but what happens when one night just isn’t enough…for either of them.

Aiden was perfection for Savannah; neither was looking for it and yet it landed in their laps anyways. Fate has a way of bringing people together, and fate certainly knew what it was doing with these two. It was once these two hit Las Vegas that the real shenanigans began. Lauren Rowe goes Oceans 11’esque in this book, and it was this that really brought a different dynamic for our number crunching heroine.

“And, suddenly, I know for a fact I’m not going anywhere. Ever. Because, for the first time in ten fucking years, I finally feel like I’m home.”

This was an unputdownable read, with a fast-paced plot and endearing characters. Funny in places, cute and hot in others and with that added extra action that really pulled this book together. Totally loved it!!

“None of them were you.”

Roya Carmen delivers a fabulous love/hate, second chance romance with One Week Hating You. I couldn’t get enough of this story, and once I started, I couldn’t put it down. This book had a little bit of everything, a man that you should hate in the beginning and yet can’t because you can see what lies underneath and another man that was a spineless asshole that needed no second chances. A heroine who was sweet and innocent, a little naïve and someone I wanted to shake on a regular basis, but at the end of the day, she just thought the man she was supposed to marry, was the one. However, alas, he wasn’t.

“I hate you because I want you, and I can’t have you.”

On what should be the best day of her life, Maeve’s life is left in tatters as her fiancé and boyfriend of seven years jilts her at the altar. Completely stunned and devastated, Maeve feels like her life has imploded and with her family begging her to come home and get away from it all, she relents and makes the trip. Home is like stepping back in time in more ways than one, this quaint town hasn’t changed, everyone knows everyone and the boy that broke her heart still lives next door. You never forget your first love, and when these two set eyes on one and other for the first time, it seems first love only lies in wait to be reignited back to life once again.

“Every time I looked at your beautiful face, it hurt.”

For some reason, a reason that still baffles me, Maeve is desperate to win her jilting ass of an ex back, meek and timid Maeve gets a makeover. Maeve’s friends decide that making him jealous will only spur him into action, cue first love, Blake, his rippling muscles and his drop-dead gorgeous features, plus and this was a huge plus for Blake, he was adorable, OMG, totally and utterly adorable.

These two in close proximity to each other only brings all those old feelings flooding back, where loss and heartbreak drove them apart never to be spoken of again, well at least on Maeve’s side. The rekindling is far from easy as their pasts have to be dealt with before the present can have a chance, but Blake is adamant in his pursuit and with a flighty, heartbroken Maeve, he has to be one his A Game.

“…as much as I want to tell myself  that he’s just for fun, I know he’s a lot more than that.”

One Week Hating You was full of heartbreak, love, emotion, passion and fun, the character connection and dialogue was on point, the characters real and relatable and the fate love gods shooting their arrow to perfection. Absolutely loved it.

“You and me, we've had it rough…But now's our time. Our time to be happy.”

Excerpt:

“It’s complicated,” I try to explain.
“It’s not complicated,” he says. “We were just fucking, I get it. Parker’s the one you’re engaged to.” We’re trudging through his backyard and I’m suddenly taken back to so long ago, when we’d spend hours playing back here. The old tire swing still hangs from the large maple. That old shed is still standing, and so is the old swing set his dad built. His fishing boat sits in its usual spot.
I run after him again, and when I catch up to him, he takes me by surprise when he grabs my arm. “What do you want from me?”
“I…” My heart is pounding so hard. “I… I don’t know. I just want to make sure we’re all right. I don’t want to leave on a bad note.”
He pulls me to him and wraps his hands in my hair. He pulls at it as he draws me in closer, draws me in for a kiss. I get lost in him. I rub the palms of my hands against his neatly trimmed beard, savoring the taste of his mouth. I want him one last time. God, I want him.
He pulls away. “Is this what you wanted?” he asks, breathless. “Is this ending on a good note?”
I bury my hands in his hair and pull him back to me. I melt into him when he kisses me again. He grabs my ass and presses me hard against him. I want him to take me inside. I tear my mouth from his. “Take me to your room,” I beg. “Please.”
He trails a hand under the skirt of my dress, toys with my panties. “Nah…” he says.
My eyes grow wide, and my stomach feels like stone. He’s saying no.
“Nah,” he says. “Beds are for you and Parker. You and I… we just fuck, don’t we. Beds are not for us.” He pulls at the band of my panties, and with one swift pull, he slides them over the curve of my ass. I swallow and close my eyes. I let him do this, right in the middle of his backyard, where anyone can see us. I let him because it feels so good. I throw my head back when he slides his hand over my sex.
That’s when I grab onto his wrist and steady his hand. “We need to stop.”
“Why?” he asks, his voice hoarse. “Afraid Parker might see? Hey, why don’t you snap a pic for your Instagram, or are we not doing that anymore?”
I pull away from him but he’s quick to grab my arm. “Come with me,” he says, his voice soft. He takes my hand and leads me out back, towards the shed. I hike my panties back up with one hand and follow eagerly, not quite sure what he’s up to.
When we reach the shed, he swings the door open and pulls me in. He slams the door behind us, and we find ourselves in almost total darkness. It’s cold and damp. The full moon shines through the windows and gives us a bit of light. The small enclosed space is a mess; tools on one wall, lawnmower, tons of fishing gear, a stack of tires, and a table topped with bottles and cans. There’s barely standing room for the two of us. He spins me around and presses me against the door. It smells of peeling paint and rotten wood.
He presses his hot mouth on my neck. “Is this what you want?”
I throw my head back against his shoulder. “Yes…” I whisper, but it comes out as a moan, a desperate whimper.
“I’m going to give you the best fuck of your life.” He drops to his knees and buries his head under my skirt. He trails soft hot kisses up my legs as he slides my panties slowly down. “When you’re laying with Parker, in your fancy silky sheets, and he can’t make you come, you think about this.” His words melt into the flesh of my ass and my eyes roll into the back of my head.
I step out of my panties, one shaking leg at a time. “Yes…” I breathe.
He comes to a stand again and presses both his hands on either side of my head, holding me hostage. “You promise?”
“I promise.”
He pulls me hard against him, and before I can even think of what’s happening, I’m hiked up against him, and he’s inside me, one hand sliding down my clit. In mere seconds, he makes me come, and I know that he’s right.
I probably won’t ever be able to stop thinking about this. Remembering this. And wanting this.

Review ~ The Beautiful Hearts Duet by Emma Scott

Book Description:

I fell for Connor Drake. I didn’t want to; I fought against it, but I fell in love with him anyway. With his words. With his poetry. With him. The gentleness and beauty of his soul that speaks directly to mine. He writes as if he can feel my heart, hear its cadence and compose the exact right lyrics to accompany every beat and flow.

I’m in love with Connor…so why do I feel an inexplicable pull to his best friend, Weston? Grouchy, sullen, brooding Weston Turner, who could cut you down with a look. Fiercely intelligent with a razor sharp wit and acid tongue, he’s the exact opposite of Connor in every way, and yet there’s electricity in the air between us. The thorny barbs Weston wraps around himself can’t keep me away.

But the more time I spend with these men, the more tangled and confused my emotions become. When they both sign up for the Army Reserves during a time of increasing strife in the Middle East, I fear I’ll never unravel my own heart that sometimes feels as if it will tear straight down the middle…for both of them.

Book Description:

Never again would I allow my heart to become the plaything of someone else.
Never again would I let a man (or men) come between me and my goals.
Never again would I love without feeling the fullness of that love in return.
Not until I knew it was real. And if that took me a lifetime to find, so be it.

Those were my vows, and after all that had happened with Connor and Weston, I was determined to keep them. To protect my heart.
And then he came home, and my vows became his promises.

He held my heart in his hands with reverence and care.
He helped me find my soul’s greatest purpose in life.
He loved me with a love so pure and vibrant, I knew I’d never feel anything like it in a hundred lifetimes.
It was real.

Until it wasn’t.
Until it all came crashing down when I discovered the deep love I thought I’d found was nestled in a web of lies—so soft and silken I hadn’t noticed it was there.
Until it was too late.

Review for complete duet

“Parfois, le cœur se cache derrière l’esprit. Sometimes the heart hides itself behind the mind.”

Emma Scott once again brings her lyrical prose to the hearts of the readers as you cannot help but be swept away in this stunningly beautiful duet. This author never fails to tug at every heartstring and evoke every single possible emotion as her poetic voice brings to life the story of Weston, Connor and Autumn. Three beautiful souls whose lives were intertwined and whose friendships would stand the test of time. Loyalty, friendship and love is the crux of this story, all tested, and all explored as Emma Scott regales the reader from college to the fields of war and the aftermath, tissues will be required.

“Unrequited love. The most painful kind.”

Weston was a character that called to me from the get-go. Quiet in his demeanour, a little nerdish with a penchant for poetry. Weston’s life was dictated by a traumatic event as a child and had used this event as his mantra going forward, even though it was incredibly unhealthy and made him the butt of jokes. Loyal to a fault, self-sacrificing and with a heart of gold, Weston put everyone's happiness before his own, even if that was the last thing he really wanted to do.  However, there was one person that always stood by his side, and that was his best friend, Connor. These two were chalk and cheese, poor and rich, introvert and out-going and yet, these two were inseparable, and their opposites are what levelled the other.

“I worried I would grow up to be trash too, and would hurt any woman I might someday love, so I vowed not to love anyone.”

Connor was a character that all other men wanted to be and looked up to. Connor was drop-dead gorgeous, confident, rich and his personality just shone from the pages. It was that personality though that was his mask for a deeply unhappy man that really felt the pressures of parents expectations and their lack of belief in his abilities. Connor was a hard character to really understand, to really get under his skin and I would have loved that greater depth knowledge to really understand the man. However, I adored his friendship with Weston. These two were more like brothers than best friends, Connor always had Weston’s back, was his biggest supporter in the stands and was more often than not, Weston’s voice when he was unable to speak. Even though the tables turned eventually.

“…pretty words weren’t enough without something real behind them,”

Autumn was a beautiful soul, a heroine hard not to love. A woman with a huge heart, full of compassion, loyalty and love. Autumn came across Weston and Connor and was immediately caught in the middle, love and friendships, blurry lines and the one stuck between a rock and a hard place. Autumn was the one left to pick up the pieces of her own heart and those of the men that she loved. This is not a cheating book though.

“The fight you have to fight is for you so that the love you feel for her has a chance.”

Emma Scott really brings together war and its aftermath, both physical and psychological and she approaches these subjects with empathy and precision. I could see the amount of research undertaken and felt that the author left no stone unturned and dealt with the situations these characters found themselves in with compassion, heart and a whole lot of emotion.

“Feelings,” I said, “are like tonsils. Mostly useless, and occasionally a source of pain and discomfort.”

This would have been a five star read for me and was so up until the last part of book two. I did find the ending predictable and found one element a little hard to swallow, but none the less, I adored these characters, they have buried themselves deep into my heart and soul, and their story will stay with me for a very long time. Once again, Emma Scott brought her ‘A’ game and didn’t disappoint. I love this author’s writing voice and cannot recommend her highly enough.

“For you, I would bring down the stars, wreath their fire around your neck like diamonds, and watch them pulse to the beat of your heart.”

Review ~ Love, Sincerely, Yours by Sara Ney and Meghan Quinn

Book Description:

Dear Mister.. . . no, too formal.
Hey there sweet cheeks. . . no, too forward.
*Clears throat*
To whom it may concern,

Full disclosure; before we move forward with this email, I would like it to be known that I have consumed an adequate amount of alcoholic beverages to intoxicate myself tonight. Three margaritas, two shots, and one beer—because it was free.

I think it’s important to be open and honest with your co-workers, don’t you?

So here I am, being open and honest. Drunk but honest. Or just drunk with lust? You decide.

I have a hopeless, foolish, schoolgirl crush on you when you are the last person on earth I should be falling for. Did you know people around the office call you a sadist? An egomaniac. An insensitive, arrogant prick. But what they don't know is your bark is worse than your bite. And that bite doesn't scare me. The fact is, I’d love that bite of yours to nip at my bare skin while we’re both wearing nothing but sheets.

For once I want you to look at me as more than one of your employees.

And as long as we're being honest, that navy blue suit you wear? With the crisp white shirt? It really makes me want to loosen your tie and show you exactly who's boss.

Love,
Sincerely,
Yours

“I can’t live another day without your hugs and ‘quiches.’”

Both these authors in their own right are hilarious, their senses of humour are always reflected in their own books, and now the reader is treated to both of them in one. I could just imagine the shenanigans involved in bringing this book to publication and can imagine the downright hilarious conversations as certain scenes were written. There are many, many laughs in this book, a heroine you cannot help but adore and friends that egg her on to do something that she would have never, ever done of her own volition.

Peyton has had a crush on her devilishly handsome boss for years. A boss who is a total asshole to all, who walks around the office with a stick up his ass, who is as arrogant as they come and who everyone is afraid of. When Peyton’s crush is revealed in a moment of drunkenness, her friends are stunned and hatch a plan for Peyton to release her frustrations and hopefully have a little fun with said arrogant prick. And so Peyton sends an anonymous email…ending with ‘I want to bang you.’

Rome, ever the rule player, is aghast when he receives said anonymous email. Not sure if this is someone pulling his chain, or actually true, Rome is concentrated on his quest to find the originator so that he can fire them. But, there is something about the email that colours Rome intrigued, and against his better judgement, he replies.

“Rome Blackburn is woods and rivers and adventure. He is excitement. He is an asshole. Rome Blackburn is a freaking prick.”

The emails between these two are hilarious and honest, the banter between them when Rome is still in the dark is an amalgamation of intrigue and restraint. However, when Rome does let his guard down, his true personality shines through, and you definitely get to see the real person underneath the usual frosty façade. The back and forth, the hate/love, the wit, sarcasm and innuendos all bring many a tear of laughter to your eyes and have you championing this unexpected pairing to a happy ever after.

“Pull your pants down, Rome. I’m about to rock your fucking world.”

This was definitely a feel-good read, and I cannot wait to see if these two pair up again because I will certainly be reading.

“You had me at Godiva.”

Jeannine Colette and Lauren Runow deliver a fast-paced, action-packed book that read as quick as its hero drove. Underground street car racing is the theme in this book, and Austin Sexton certainly lives up to his reputation. This book was hot, the Sexton brothers are certainly going to burn up our kindles, and I cannot wait to read Bryce’s book.

Austin Sexton was a man that had his fair share of issues, and his way of letting off steam was the need for speed. While by day he was a successful businessman, on the track he was a formidable foe, one that every street racer wanted to beat. His reputation preceded him, and his skill and success on both fronts warranted the title. Underneath all the bravado and persona was a man though, a little broken and running from his nightmares.

“I’m so fucking tired.”
“From what?”
“Running.”

Jalyn was a great heroine, and probably only someone with her demeanour would be able to put up with Austin. Jalyn was his equal, her sass and good heart kept Austin on his toes, their banter was on point and their chemistry off the charts. Jalyn had Austin wrapped around her finger with effortless ease, and the poor sucker didn’t even realise it, but when you meet the one, the heart knows and just won’t let go.

“If you’re ready to stop running, then I’m willing to sit with you.”

I am a huge fan of Jeannine Colette and have read a fair few Lauren Runow books too, but I couldn’t tell you wrote what, the writing was that seamless and effortless, cohesive and the flow was perfect. The character connection was perfection, with all characters and the buildup to the Sexton family as a whole certainly has me salivating for more. There is one person introduced that I want to see the back of and I’m hoping that throughout these books a certain Sexton sees the light and sends someone on their merry way, after all, there is always one bad apple.

“Lucidity isn’t always sanity. Illusions can seem clear and reasonable.”

After the end of book three, Broken Edge, I was left perched on the edge of my seat, my heart in my mouth and my mind running a mile a minute wondering where CD Reiss was going to take it. That cliffhanger literally sent me Over the Edge, pun intended and CD Reiss certainly delivered with another action-packed final instalment. The end of this series is bittersweet for me, I absolutely adore these characters, and now that we have come to the end of the line, I don’t want to see them go.

In Over the Edge, due to what Greyson did at the end of Broken Edge, she has to face her past head-on, whether she wanted to or not. I love that we found out so much more about her, she has always been a character in control, the backbone to the couple and this time the roles are reversed, and Caden doesn’t disappoint, he more than steps up, putting himself and his career on the line.

“If you took my arms and legs away, I’d know who I was. Take my eyes, my ears, I’d still be me. But my sanity?” She blinked, and the tears fell. “Who am I?”

The chemistry and connection that these two have is absolutely stunning, CD Reiss only layers this further in this book and their inner strength as individuals and as a couple only intensifies leaving the reader wanting what they had. That kind of connection only comes along once in a lifetime, and no matter what hurdles were put in front of them, these two always faced it head on and a hundred percent committed.

“Oh, fuck the line.” I took her chin and made her look at me. “Fuck all the lines. Draw me a million fucking lines, and I’ll cross all of them to get to you.”

Greyson’s past was enlightening and goes to prove that even professionals in her field have baggage and issues of their own. While I did find the split a little repetitive, I did love that this gave the reader the ability to find out all about Greyson’s demons.

“I hate to see you like this. I hate it. I know this is as much a part of you as the woman I married, and I love every fucking piece of you. But I’m afraid we’re being forced to live our lives in pieces.”

As ever, CD Reiss is a master with words, and I love the way that this story was crafted and delivered. I never fail to get engrossed in a CD Reiss story and for an author to keep me riveted for four and a half books is no small feat. I have loved everything about this series, and as I said above, I am gutted that it has come to an end. This has been a page-turner from the very first word and reading the last of them left me with a lump in my throat. Once again, CD Reiss nailed it.

About the Author:

_21A6258_pp-fb

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn't pick up she's at the well hauling buckets. Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master's degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels. She's frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn't ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood. If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

ALBLD-PRINT-FOR-WEB

Book Description:

What if you had everything in the world you wanted...except the man you never knew you needed?

Shaw Jennings, the seductive, enigmatic owner of Body Electric Tattoo works hard and plays even harder. He’s built a life he’s proud of, and though that doesn’t include a significant other, he’s got plenty of sexy men to keep his bed warm at night. None of them have ever made Shaw sit up and take notice for long, though. But that all changes when a famous rock star walks through his door.

Trent Knox had the world in the palm of his hand as the lead singer of TBD, one of the biggest rock bands in history…until the day he walked away. A getaway to South Haven Island seems like the perfect place for Trent to find himself again and reignite his passion for music. But what he never expects is to find his muse in a six-five, tatted-up badass whose sinful smile he can’t get out of his mind.

The only problem? Trent’s a notorious womanizer, and Shaw isn’t interested in being someone’s experiment—muse or otherwise. But in a town as small as this one, Shaw is finding it more and more difficult to keep the persistent rocker at arm’s length.

As the tension between them builds, maybe it’s time to finally give in and get carried away with something a little bit like...desire.

“Mmm. That Trent fucking Knox was a little bit like desire personified. And even better—he was mine, all mine.”

I do love my MM reads and Brooke Blaine delivers a stunner with her hot and sexy tattoo artist and one helluva hot, enigmatic rock star. A Little Bit Like Desire was everything I love in an MM. Two men that weren’t looking but definitely found. One confident in his sexuality but having never had a relationship and the other, closetly bi-sexual because of the band. From the time that these two meet in a dark room the chemistry is palpable, and this continues throughout the book. Their relationship will have you frantically turning the pages as you patiently wait for them both to realise just how special what they have truly is.

Shaw is our hot and tatted tattoo artist, we first met in the first book in the series, A Little Bit Like Love and I was glad that we were finally regaled with his story. Shaw I confident in his sexuality but had never found the one where he wanted more. One night stands were his forte but when he meets Trent all bets are off.

“I think I…” My voice was barely audible, even to my own ears. “I think I might want more.”

Trent has just walked away from one of the biggest rock bands and holed himself up on the island as a friend of Bash’s (I cannot wait for his book). Trent is still in that undecided stage, warring with his thoughts as to if he has done the right thing. Creatively and sexually stifled by being the front man, Trent is out for finding his creativity once again, both in and out the bedroom and when Bash sets him up in a dark room with a man he could never forget, Trent is a man on a mission.

“I feel…good. It feels good not to hide.”

The chemistry between these two will have you fanning yourself, there is just something about two strong grown men, rutting like stags that has me all the quiver and these two rut with the best of them. But more than that, it is their budding friendship and the growth in both of them that really had me fanning myself. The honesty and trust between them their foundation and the love and sexual side that builds their home.

“Shaw Jennings…I just wrote over a dozen fucking songs about you. You can’t break my heart until at least the second album.”

This book was plot driven, no angst, no drama, just a sizzling hot love story that thrived on sexual tension and that edge of your seat situation where you were like “come on boys, get it on already.” Brooke Blaine makes you wait, but when it comes, it doesn’t disappoint. These two just sizzled and spat, those tender looks, the dirty looks, the little innuendos, gah, just everything about. Utterly loved it.

Excerpt:

I’d been inside Bash’s mansion enough times to know where he was taking me, even blindfolded. Through the front door, across the foyer, up the never-ending staircase. Walking down the hallway, I heard muffled sounds, as though there were people coupled up and already behind closed doors, and the further Bash took me, the louder the voices became. But there were no discernable words—it was more the breathless cries of men giving and receiving pleasure, and it made me hard as a fucking rock.
“Sounds like the party started without me,” I said, a smile tipping my lips.
“Not where you’re going,” he replied. I heard the sound of a handle being pressed down, felt the soft rush of air as a door opened and I was led inside, and then the click of the door shutting behind us. Whatever room he’d led me to was dead silent. We were alone.
Bash tapped the side of my blindfold lightly.“You’ll keep this on until you get inside,” he said, keeping his voice low, as though he didn’t want anyone to hear him.
Ah, so I’d be going through yet another door. I wondered at all of this secrecy, since usually these parties were informal, and if we wanted to wander off with someone, we did. Eyes wide open and lights on.
But I trusted Bash with my life and knew him well enough to know that he had to have a good reason for doing this the way he was. So I didn’t think twice when I heard a second door open, felt his gentle hand on my back guiding me forward, and then heard him say with a smile in his voice,“Enjoy,my friends.”
Then he was gone, and yet I was not alone.
I removed the blindfold, but I needn’t have bothered. The room was pitch black. Not a window, not a crack of light coming through the door. I couldn’t see a thing, but I could feel another’s presence, sure as if they were standing beside me. I waited for them to speak, but the silence lingered on. They didn’t say a word, and they didn’t move, though they had to know I’d arrived.
This must be part of the game,I thought. For whatever reason, we weren’t allowed to see each other, and I’d venture a guess that speaking was out of the question as well. Something told me there was more at play here than darkness simply heightening our awareness and setting the mood, and that had a shiver running down my spine.
If it’s a game they want, it’s a game they’ll get.
Opening my senses, I stood perfectly still and waited until I got a hint of where the man waiting for me was. My rapidly pounding heart was all I could hear for a long moment until a faint sound, maybe a quiet exhale, sounded to my right, and I stalked in that direction slowly, letting my prey hear me coming. Would he run and make me chase him? Or did he want me to find him waiting?
With my hands slightly in front of me, I moved forward until my fingertips grazed against smooth material cut with a cold and jagged line that ran vertically—a zipper. The smell of leather filled my nose as I slid my hands up the man’s jacket. He didn’t move, but I could hear his shuddering breath as I reached his shoulders and slipped my hands beneath the leather to feel the naked, tensed muscles there. He was maybe three or four inches shorter than me, and as I pushed the jacket down, I realized he wasn’t wearing anything underneath. No shirt. Nothing to cover the solid muscle of his strong arms and chest.
The leather fell to the ground, and then the man reached for me, his hands skimming up my arms, my shoulders, my neck, leaving goosebumps in their wake. There was something so tantalizing about a stranger touching me, wanting from me, as we stood toe to toe in the unlit room. I could see how the mystery of it all would make someone shy feel more bold and empowered, though that had never been something I struggled with. I had no problem telling someone what I wanted and when, which meant tonight’s clandestine activities were tailored for the man currently caressing my body—but it’d sure as hell be a fun, sexy pursuit for me.
When his rough fingers reached my lips, I grabbed his wrist and held him there. Then I kissed the tips and sucked his pointer and middle fingers deep into my mouth, swirling my tongue around him, and his gasp hit my ears.
The sound was so erotic, the salty taste of his skin so heady on my tongue, that I had to palm my already-up-and-ready-to-go dick to calm it the hell down. As if he sensed my arousal, he pulled his fingers from my mouth and punched his hips forward. I let out a throaty groan at the contact. His erection matched my own, though more constricted through the tight fit of his jeans.
Thirsty for more, I grabbed his trim waist and let my hands fall to his backside. His shoulders were against a wall, and with his ass firmly in my grasp, I held his hips against me, rubbing myself off on the bulge rocking against my own. All the while, his fingers deftly unfastened the buttons of my vest, and then he pulled loose my shirt and began removing those as well. My chest heaved as he pushed my jacket, shirt, and vest off in one go, and I kicked them away, not worried in the slightest about finding them later.
His touch made goosebumps break out on my naked flesh wherever he roamed. Down my neck and then my chest, where he pinched my nipples so hard that I cried out in painful pleasure and put my hands over his.
He froze, as if he’d crossed an unspoken line. But if he’d thought he’d gone too far or that I was about to stop him, he was dead wrong. I guided our hands down together, over my trembling abs and then further, further, until we pushed beneath the waistband of my pants to my—
“Fuuuck.” His head fell back against the wall as the curse left his lips on an exhale.
In the dark, I smiled. He’d broken the rules to his own game. With one word, he changed everything, and now? Anything goes.
