Devotion (Club Destiny 5) by Nicole Edwards

Reviewed by Donna ~ 5 Stars

It is no secret that I am an avid reader of anything Nicole Edwards, I love her books and I was majorly excited that my favourite ménage were getting another instalment, what is there not to love about Luke, Cole and Sierra? All I can say is that this book was seriously AMAZEBALLS!! And I mean seriously AMAZEBALLS, it is my favourite by far (my previous favourite being Luke, Sierra and Cole’s first instalment). Not only do we get the queen of ménage in all her glory with amazingly hot sex scenes…but to me this book was highly emotional…something I was not expecting from Nicole Edwards. I was shocked when I was sobbing whilst reading, not just once, but twice!! Twice she reduced me to tears…not by anything sad or upsetting, but by the pure emotion that radiated from the pages…the relationship between Luke and Cole in this instalment is majorly emotionally charged and you really feel it and you can’t help but be sucked in. I was a wreck by the end!!

This book continues with Sierra being heavily pregnant, we go through the birth, we find out the baby daddy not that it matters with these three, but most importantly we see how the trio fare with life in general after the closure of Club Destiny, starting new businesses, living as a family and most of all living with each other. Conventional relationships are hard as we all know but when you have three peoples loves, lives and fears to take into account it will always be difficult. This book centres around all of their insecurities and issues and how they work through them. I must say Sierra was more of a bit part in this book, we always knew how she was feeling as she would just come out and say it, but Luke and Cole are a totally different story. They kept their feelings to themselves and this was creating issues within their dynamic.

We see a totally different side of Luke in this book, the man has mellowed and has become highly emotive. Whilst he cannot always say it with words the way Nicole conveyed his feelings with actions was breath taking. I really felt for Luke in this book and I must say he may have just knocked his twin off my book boyfriend number 1 place.

Cole in this book, I just wanted to give me majorly huge hugs, he struggles in this book and it is completely unfounded..he sees things that are not there, stews on them, quadruples them and then panics. If only he talked a bit more a lot of the problems would never have happened, the same goes for Luke too. Cole begins to think that he is the third wheel again, although this is far from the truth. The scenes in Austin were just WOW…this started off my first crying session..Nicole, you hit that out the ball park..it felt like I was there like a voyeur watching, listening and willing them along. I cannot say how emotional I was reading this part of the book, thank god hubby was asleep as he would of laughed.

Here are a few of my favourite highlights I made during this book and I made A LOT! Just from these few snippets I hope you can appreciate the love, emotion, tension and passion that these convey:-

“I love you,” Luke said the words as his body stilled, spilling himself deep inside of Cole. “Always love you”.

“I love you Cole”. He had to swallow before he continued. “I’ll never stop loving you. You and I both know it’s not easy for me, but you stuck it out with me once. Don’t give up on me now.”

“I think about what it’ll feel like when you f**k me. I want to feel you inside of me, Cole. I want you to f**k me until I can’t take it anymore and then I want you to come in my ass.”

“Next time, I want you to look me in the eyes when you make love to me” Luke said.

“I love you,” Luke whispered. “I’ve loved you longer than I was ever willing to admit.”

These two are the first ever Male on Male I have ever read and in fact the only Male on Male I have read, but I love these two with a passion, they are permanently etched on my heart. You cannot help but feel what they feel and it is so intense. Sierra was brilliant in this book, she could see the cracks and she was not prepared to lose either of them. She got all their insecurities, dealt with them and got them all back on an even keel. Whilst Luke maybe the dominant this is slowly reducing, Luke admits to wanting to be dominated by Cole sometimes, they also become business partners, they all make changes to their relationship for the better and to make them all equal. It is exactly what relationships are all about.

I cannot say enough how much I loved this book, but it is a must read…for all us Club Destiny addicts you are going to love this book and for any Club Destiny virgins, I beg you to read this series in order…you will not be disappointed.

Way to go Nicole, absolutely brilliant I cannot gush enough…and so stoked that you gave our little blog a mention in your acknowledgements, our first and fitting that it came from you.

.
Want to know more about Aiden? Well, there is no one better to tell us than Keatyn herself.  Let's see what she thinks about one of Aiden's best attributes...one of his very special talents......kissing.

Pretty soon we are stuck at the very top of the Ferris wheel, looking down at the pretty lights.  He says, “Boots.” I raise my head up, and that’s when he kisses me.  A slow, perfect, time-stood-still, fireworks-in-my-eyes kind of kiss. And it was just a little kiss. No open mouths, no tongues; just a kiss.  A little teeny kiss.  Holy shit.  I’m in love with him...Stalk Me by Jillian Dodd.

He leads me out of the party and across the hall, opens the door to an empty dorm room, turns on a lamp, then gently pushes me up again the door and kisses me.  Again, it's a slow, soft, amazing kiss that makes me feel like he's kissing my soul.  Kiss Me by Jillian Dodd

“Don’t fight me anymore.”  I don’t get to reply. His lips quickly close the gap between his and mine.  All of a sudden, there is a huge clap of thunder and a bolt of lightening hits a tree not far from us. Rain starts coming down in buckets.  Aiden pulls me up off the ground and we laugh at how soaked we both instantly are.  And there in the pouring rain, I get The. Best. Kiss. Of. My. Entire. Life.  And I’m pretty sure with this kiss, he branded me. Seared his initials into my skin.  Like bite marks from a vampire. I'm his.  Love Me by Jillian Dodd.

If you are not already convinced, get ready to swoon, because the Hottie God himself is going to tell us his idea of the perfect date with Keatyn:
If I could take her anywhere on a date, I'd take her to our house in Napa Valley. We'd eat dinner outside, watch the sunset, drink a little wine. Then I'd take her down to the gazebo that is lit with twinkle lights and dance with her. When we dance it's like the rest of the world ceases to exist. My arms wrapped around her. Her body pressed against mine. The way her hair always smells like cotton candy. Whispering in her ear. And, of course, kissing. Lots of kissing.

Thanks for supporting Aiden!

Author interview!

Welcome to The Romance Cover Rebecca. Thank you so much for joining us today.

Before we start talking about your writing and your books, lets find out a bit more about you:

When you are not writing or working what do you enjoy doing?
Music is as big a part of who I am as writing, so if I'm NOT writing, I'm probably at a concert. Preferably traveling to a concert to be more accurate!

What is your favourite Movie at the moment?
It's been a while since I've had the opportunity to get to the movies. I'm still dying to see The Great Gatsby. But until that moment, my all time favorite movie is Sixteen Candles. It's a classic, and I will forever have a crush on Jake Ryan!

What is your favourite song at the moment?
"All I Want" by Kodaline - this song gives me the chills every time I listen to it.

Who is your favourite book boyfriend?
Do you mean besides Evan? The guy I created to be virtually too perfect to be true? Then that would be Wil from Slammed. I would get in an argument with him anytime just so we could pull stars from a jar...

If you could have only one book whilst stranded on a desert Island, what would it be?
I'd want a story with me that would give me hope... so I'd say The Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman. That series provided beautiful insight on the human soul.

Let's talk about your writing:

What inspired you to write your first book?
A dream that wouldn't let me sleep. I tend to over think, even when I'm supposed to be sleeping. I'm pretty certain that's called insomnia - ha! I tried to force a dream, and the next thing I knew, I had a story I had to write down because I knew it was worth being told.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
Oddly enough... Stephen King. His books put me IN the story. I could feel, touch and smell where I was. His words create imagery so vivid, and evoke emotions so fierce, they leave an everlasting impression. And that's exactly what I want to do with every story I write - evoke emotion so strong, it can, at times, take the readers out of their comfort zone.

What do you do when you come down with a case of the infamous ʺwriter's blockʺ?
I don't write. Ha! I know some say to write even when you can't. But I cannot. I have to feel it. Be in it. Or it's evident that I'm not connected with it. So I step away, and let the voices float in my head until they're strong enough to be written.

Do you listen to music when you write? If so what is the song you most associate with Reason to Breathe? Which one for Barely Breathing? Which one for Out of Breath?
I don't listen to music while I write, but it does influence me in between scenes, while I'm collecting my thoughts. Music can be so vital in creating a moment. Reason to Breathe's title was actually inspired by "Believe" by The Bravery. In Barely Breathing, the house itself became a character in the story - I listened to "Little Talks" by Of Monsters and Men so many times during the creation of that book. And "I Won't Give Up" by Jason Mraz is the most very perfect song for Out of Breath.

Tell us more about Reason to Breathe and Barely Breathing:
In Reason to Breathe Emma has to deal with Abuse, in Barely Breathing she has to deal with alcoholism. These are tough issues to write about and you write about them so well. Where do you get your ideas for these storylines? How do you go about researching the issues?
I worked with troubled teens after graduating with a bachelor's in psychology, so I was exposed to many of these issues. I felt it was important to not hold back when telling Emma's story, because these issues are serious and are far too often overlooked. It's time we started listening to those who are afraid to speak up.

Emma is tough to go through what she has and whilst people may not always agree with her decisions, I'm sure they can understand them. What is your inspiration behind her character? How was she developed? Is she based on someone?
Emma is not the example to live by. She honestly does not make the correct decision once in the first two books, despite her intentions. But her flaws are what make readers identify with her, while making them frustrated with her at the same. Emma is a survivor, and that in itself is a strength that we all possess.

Evan is such a sweet, caring character and our hearts broke for him more than once. What's your favourite thing about him? Was it difficult writing from his POV at the end of Barely Breathing?
Evan doesn't give up. He doesn't allow Emma to push him away because he can see right through her defences, and knows she’s worth all the effort he puts into loving her. I know all of my characters so well, I could easily write from any of their viewpoints (except Carol's - I'd NEVER want her in my head).

We can't not talk about Jonathan. He is a complex character, broken and has past troubles, but does seem to care for Emma, though his relationship with her isn't always healthy. Was his character always mapped out this way or did he evolve the more you wrote?
Jonathan is the most controversial and complex character I've yet to create. Everything about him is purposeful. He was designed to ride the line between “misunderstood but lovable” and “dangerous and perhaps creepy”. I never intended to write his story, but the more I got to know him, the more I realized his story is more complicated and horrifying than Emma's – I feel I owe it to him to tell it. I'll begin writing Jonathan's trilogy next year.

You totally killed us with the cliff-hanger endings! Was it always your intention to end the books on cliff-hangers? Why did you chose to do this?
I grew up watching Hitchcock and I admired movies that would leave me unsettled at the end but kept me thinking. I wanted readers to feel at the end of these books. I wanted to leave an impression that couldn't be shaken.

If you were making a movie, who would you cast as the characters?
I'd honestly prefer an unknown cast of young talent. I could certainly see Robin Wright as Carol. She'd be phenomenal. Although I've seen some fantasy casts listed by readers that are exceptional, no one has quite caught my attention to make me feel "she/he's perfect!"

Which was your favourite book to write and why?
Out of Breath was my favorite to create. Not only because it's the conclusion of Emma's story, but because I was able to delve inside this character in hopes that she can finally see how strong she truly is.
If you could change one scene from one of your books what would it be and why?
I would contemplate removing the sex scene between Jonathan and Rachel. I had no idea that Emma walking in on them would leave as strong of a reaction as it did with the readers. It was an impression I didn't intend to be as traumatizing as it was. It was meant to be horrifying but humorous at the same time. I mean, Sara thought it was funny!

We know that you want to keep as much as possible under wraps about Out of Breath before it's release next week, but can you share with us a few little bits?:

What was the hardest part of writing this book?
It's an emotional story. I had to bring myself to dark places that were difficult to resurface from. I cried more than once while writing it.

What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
The first funeral scene... and you'll see why!

What do you think readers will like most about this book?
That there’s no cliffhanger!

Is this the end of Emma's story?
It is.

Can you talk about future projects?:

What have you got lined up for the future?
Besides Jonathan's trilogy, which I'm planning to write next year, I'm at the beginning stages of a New Adult stand-alone, written through the perspective of a twenty-year-old guy, so you know that will be interesting! Ha! I have another gut wrenching stand alone in mind after that. I'm truly excited to be writing again!

Finally what would you say about your books to someone who hasn't yet read them?
I'm sorry. (Then I'd smile.)

Kahlen Aymes, the Queen of Romance has done it again…this trilogy has got better and better and book 3 does not disappoint. I absolutely adore her style of writing, emotional and from the heart, your connection to the characters is intense and you can’t help but love them and will them along. This book just delivers it in spades, Kahlen has surpassed herself with this one…reading through this book you will experience every single possible emotion you could ever think of, I had happy tears, sad tears, I was laughing, screaming, you name it I did it. I was a total emotional wreck by the end of it, which I have now dubbed “I have been Kahlen Aymes’d” she does it to me every time!! I should know by now, but alas no, I just jump in and get emotionally crushed!!
This book starts with Ryan and Julia after they get married, they are becoming accustomed to married life and all that it brings. However, they only seem to have one stress and that is Ryan’s job. As he is doing his residency the hours are demanding and they hardly see each other, the little time they do have together is sacred and they definitely make the most of it.

As we know from the previous books, Ryan’s working environment is not the best due to the area where drugs, knives and gun crimes are rife and all this is brought home to a devastating reality when Ryan and an ER nurse called Jane are attacked by a group of youths in the ER. Ryan is injured but is saved from certain death when Jane jumps in front of him and takes the stabbing that should have been his. Jane is left fighting for her life and Ryan immediately goes to her aid and manages to keep her alive until she can be rescued and operated on.
Ryan feels like he owes Jane his life and vice versa, however, Jane has other issues to deal with and takes to confiding in Ryan as she feels that he is the only person that understands what they went through together. Will this confidante relationship cause problems??  I won’t go into too much detail so as not to spoil it for others but this just gets soooooo emotional, it is heart breaking in places and I sometimes had to question Ryan, something that I have never had to do before, he always seemed so in tune with Julia that I was amazed and shocked how sometimes, even the perfect Ryan could things so stupidly stupidly wrong and it was extremely frustrating!! I wanted to knock some sense into him and say open your eyes!!! Can’t you see what this is doing??? FGS RYAN!!!!

We all know that Ryan and Julia have been through hell and back to get where they are in this book, and book 3 is by no means a smooth ride for them. All I can say is be prepared for an extremely emotional ride, you will be upset, you will cry, you will laugh, you will get angry and you will definitely need lots and lots of tissues. You will experience the raw emotion that Kaheln Aymes seems to evoke with every word that she writes and you will be sucked in and sucked under and yes whilst it can be painful it is also extremely beautiful.
This is one series that I am extremely extremely sad has come to a close and I cannot wait to see what delights Kahlen gives to us next. I can only hope she does it quickly as she is one of a rare breed that manages to draw me in with the first words and doesn’t let me go again until THE END.
