“Fate is a fucking lie, and destiny is its bitch-ass cousin.”

Ellie Wade is one of those increasingly unique authors who deliver the story that her character’s demand rather than what the reader wants and for this I have always applauded her. I know that when I dive into an Ellie Wade book, it will be emotional, it will be angsty, it will be intense, it may not be what I want but I will love it anyway because she always makes me understand. Finding London may not be as emotionally draining as her previous books but this book was addictive, I fell in love with these characters and I didn’t want their story to end. While this is the first book in this series, the second should be out relatively quickly so not too long to wait either.

“This” – I wave my finger between us – “Will end badly. You should know, I always end up losing everything I love.”

London Wright was an extremely hard character to like in the first instance, she is extremely spoilt, very “I deserve everything and more” and “what I want I get.” London is young, she has some growing up to do and her growth and development is what, for me really made her character in this book. London goes from strength to strength throughout this story, it is amazing what falling in love can do to a person. Loic made her want to be a better person.

“Here I stand, on the corner of Independence and Desire. The problem is that Desire is littered with lots of trash that I call desperation while Independence is covered in regret.”

Loic was a bit of an enigma in the beginning, he kept himself to himself and his emotions and thoughts well and truly guarded. But it seems Loic has met his match in the form of London. Usually able to keep the opposite sex out of his mind but easily in his bed Loic seems to have found the chink in his armour, London has rocked him and he doesn’t know what to do about it.

“From the start, something about him called to me. It was as if I could feel his pain, read his heart, and appreciate his struggles.”

Loic has had a tough life and has a lot of insecurities, none of which I could blame him for. He has serious abandonment issues and has a lot of grief and guilt festering inside him, none of which he was responsible for. Loic was a selfless person though, he put his friends before himself and would do anything for anyone. Loic was in the army and because of his past and his job he just didn’t do relationships, London made him want to, his heart told him to, but his head said not to…which one would win?

“Maybe, where you have holes, I can fill you with my strength, and where I am ripped wide open, you can mend me.”

While this book is a romance, it was also a journey for both characters. As I said in the beginning, London grew from a spoilt brat to a woman in love who would fight tooth and nail for the love of her man. Loic though grew the most. Having shut off his emotions for most of his life it was hard for him to open up to anybody, but London made him want to try. He wanted to be a better man, he wanted to deserve her and most importantly he wanted to love her. My heart broke for Loic so many times, from his childhood, to his teenage years and then finally to a man whose heart was so broken it was seemingly irreparable. Loic had to fight the hardest and it was his fight that brought tears to my eyes on so many occasions.

“These words are my sanity. They make me feel less alone when I am so very lonely.”

While the course of true love never runs smooth, these two have a lot to learn, but mostly they needed to learn to do it together. While both of them are pretty insecure and far from experienced in the world of dating, they try and they try hard. I believed in them, I wanted them to make it, they loved each other, they deserved each other and they brought out the best in each other…will they see this and most importantly will they try hard enough.

“One person can only lose so much before he starts to realize that he’s not strong enough to lose any more.”

These two have a lot to overcome and I cannot wait to see what journey Ellie Wade has in store for Loic and London. I adored the London meaning behind this story, so clever, genius in fact and made their connection all the more special. I adored this couple and I cannot wait to read more.

“No one is coming. No one is going to save me. Love is a joke, and London’s a lie.”
