Review ~ Refrain (Soul #3) by Kennedy Ryan

Book Description:

***Must Read Books 1 & 2 First! All 3 books only 99¢ for release week!

People dream of a love that runs deep. So deep it feels like it's always been with you, just waiting for the person who'll own your heart and soul forever. So few ever find it, but for Rhyson Gray and Kai Pearson, happily ever after was only the beginning...

One of the biggest rock stars in the world and one of the brightest rising stars make a life together. Sometimes it's glamour-filled days and blissed out nights, but it's mostly staying true in the too-bright glare of the spotlight. It's long stretches where the road is lonely and the work is hard. It's living in a love that's the safest place you know even while danger lurks at your door.

Book 3 of The Soul series is an emotionally-charged epic conclusion that had to be told and should not be missed for fans of this series and this couple!

“Perfect love casts out fear.”

This is one of those series that I have adored from the very beginning. There was something about Rhyson and Kai from the very beginning that captured my full attention. They were an adorable couple who had mountains to climb and seemingly had the world against them, yet they survived, team #Kaison. Us readers asked for more and Kennedy Ryan delivered, but not before putting us through the wringer one final time, the woman is evil!

Refrain is the icing on the proverbial cake, closure for a couple that certainly deserved a happily ever after, yet after My Soul to Keep and Down to My Soul we only had the happy for now. What would happen to Rhyson and Kai?

“I’m going to spend the rest of my life loving you.”

Rhyson and Kai now find themselves thrust into the spotlight while trying to keep their personal lives private and it is fighting a losing battle. Rhyson has always been extremely protective over Kai and this doesn’t lighten up at all, in fact it intensifies. But, the feelings go both ways. One thing that I have never been able to deny with these two is the intense love, devotion and adoration that they have for each other and the more time their lives are played out on page after page the more Kennedy Ryan cements this into your heart and head. You believe it, you live it and it is this intense character connection that I have now had over three novels that really makes you live and breathe every word, every situation no matter how happy or heart breaking it may be.

“If this is light, it’s blinding until she is all I can see. If this is sound, it’s music. We are the verse; we are the chorus. And as we come together, her cries harmonizing with mine, this love resounds. It’s loud; so deafeningly loud that I all I hear is her. And all she hears is me. We are our own refrain.”

Being famous and in the public eye, under constant scrutiny is tough on anybody, but while the fans are often a boost they can often bring you down in more ways than one. Fans are fickle little things and often have more power than you ever thought possible. Rhyson is still nursing his damaged hand but is spending his time in the studio with his up and comings and really throwing himself into that side of his business. He has fears about his abilities for once in his life and while only he can hear the difference it is more than enough to knock his confidence. After having a natural born talent to suddenly having to work at it is more a mental issue for him and having the love and support of Kai is all the therapy he really needs.

“My whole world spins on this girl. She’s my axis.”

Kai is fighting to keep the momentum going of her rise to fame, really cherishing her moment in the spotlight, after all it has been a long time coming. Kai has waited an age for her time, for her moment. Being the selfless person she was she now wants this more than anything but sometimes live throws you curveballs and as we have already experienced with this couple’s curveballs, they have a lot of power.

“Our song isn’t one I’ve ever written or sung. It’s the one that plays between our souls.”

Kennedy Ryan is a master craftsman with fluid, lyrical writing that just flows from page to page. Emotion comes easy and she is a master at pulling on every single heart string without even trying. Kennedy Ryan makes you experience intense highs and intense lows in Refrain, she will make you laugh and she will make you cry but this is what she does best. This is one hell of a rollercoaster ride; you definitely need to buckle up!

“Leap for me, Kai.”

A refrain in musical terminology is the chorus, the lyrics you repeat, often the hook that draws you into a song and the lyrics that never leave your head that you hum and sing to yourself over and over again. To me, Kai and Rhyson are the refrain, they are the couple that I will never forget, they were the hook, their story has been played over and over in my mind since finishing on repeat like the chorus. I have loved everything about this series and one that I will definitely read over and over again when I just need a bit of #Kaison.
