Review ~ Max (Cold Fury #6) by Sawyer Bennett

Book Description:

The ice is a cold mistress. As the league’s most eligible goalie, Max Fournier has access to his fair share of willing puck bunnies, but right now he’s more interested in bringing home another championship than a one-night stand. A romantic at heart, Max believes in love; he’s just not great at relationships. So when he finally meets a nice girl who’s not blinded by his celebrity, he’s feeling the heat—and the pressure to save her from herself.

Between working two jobs and raising her sister’s kids, Julianne Bradley doesn’t have time for sports—or men. All she knows about Max is that he’s the sexiest customer to ever grace her gas-station counter. And he sees past her tired eyes and makes Jules yearn for things she can’t have: a glamorous fling, a passionate lover, and the time to enjoy both. Max makes her feel like Cinderella, even though Jules has enough baggage to crush a glass slipper. Luckily, he’s no prince—only a fierce competitor determined to win her heart.

“There’s something about you that makes me believe everything is possible.”

Sawyer Bennett never fails to deliver for me and I have been totally engrossed in this series from the very start. The Cold Fury men all have hearts of gold, but Max goes above and beyond and you cannot help but love him from the very start. Max is the most eligible bachelor of the Cold Fury team, he is the starting goalie, but unlike most, he is not out for the puck bunnies or meaningless relationships, he is waiting for his deep and meaningful.

“And let me tell you something about Max. He’s the type that loves deeply. He’ll not only give you every bit of his heart, but he’ll give you his soul.”

Julianne was a woman that had been dealt a shit hand, she has given up everything to look after her niece and nephews after the death of her sister. Not only is she grieving after losing her sister and best friend but she is now under exponential pressure to provide and look after these kids. Having two jobs, working all the hours under the sun, she is at her limit, she needs help.

Jules works full time as a nursing assistant and then works the late shift at a convenience store, although the pay isn’t great it is a necessity to keep those hungry mouths fed and a roof over their head. Going from having to just support herself to having the lives of three little kids in the palm of her hands, Jules does the best she can and she is getting there but the struggles are real. It is at the convenience store that she meets Max and she doesn’t have a clue who he is.

Max, OMG, Max he melted my heart from the very beginning. He has a heart the size of Texas and is not afraid to show it. Max goes all out to help Jules and her niece and nephews even if the help isn’t wanted, but is appreciated. Jules does not make it easy for him and as the lines of friendship blur Max has to work even harder.

“You are a saint, Max. You’re an absolute saint. But right now…I’m completely fine with you sinning.”

The Cold Fury team are a family and once again I loved the way that they all pulled together when needed. Everyone is there for everyone and as Julianne is welcomed into the Cold Fury family arms your heart will be swept away in a major dose of the feels.

Sawyer Bennett delivers on the emotions in this book and the character connection was ever present in spades. You cannot help but get emotionally invested in Max and Jules’s story. From the very start this story tugs at every single heart string, especially when young lives are involved. Cute kids, a Cinderella style swoon worthy romance and this book ticks all the boxes for a hopeless romantic like me.

“This utterly beautiful man with a heart made of pure gold and a soul guaranteed to ascend to Heaven the minute his time is up on this earth.”

I cannot wait for more from the Cold Fury family.
