MY BEST FRIEND'S EX
New Adult STANDALONE Romantic Comedy

Book Description:

When I found an eviction notice taped on my apartment door, I had two options: find a comfortable cardboard box to call home, or move in with Tucker Jameson.

Seeing that cardboard makes me feel itchy, I chose the latter. Which shouldn't be that big of a deal since Tucker is one of my good friends. And because he's still pining after his ex-girlfriend and I'm trying to finish my nursing degree, there is nothing to worry about in the romance department, making my last semester an easy one to conquer.

Boy, was I wrong.

Rules are set, dinners are made, conversations are had, and a shirtless, swoony roommate walks around in nothing but a pair of black briefs, ruining me for every other man.

Before I know it, I turn into a panting, lust-filled woman begging for Tucker to kiss me, touch me, and show me exactly what is hiding under those briefs.

But with great orgasms, comes great consequences.

Tucker might be my friend and roommate but he’s also my best friend's ex-boyfriend, making him completely off-limits. At least that's what my brain is telling me, my heart is speaking an entirely different language.

“Sometimes a human’s touch is all you need to heal wounds.”

My love affair with Meghan Quinn began with a rom-com and she totally stole my heart with My Best Friend’s Ex. This week has been unusual for me because I have two new entries into my all-time favourite couples list and Meghan Quinn firmly planted Tucker and Emma as one of them. These two captured my heart whole-heartedly and never let go. It is unusual to get such a deep and intense character connection but these two wormed their way into my heart and soul and will remain there for eternity.

We all know “girl code,” thou shalt not covet thy best friend’s cast offs,” or something like that, so I was intrigued as to how this scenario was going to play out. But once this story began to unfold I couldn’t give a shit about the ex, so I had no qualms in these two bumping uglies and in my opinion, the sooner it happened, the better.

“You were so wrapped up in Sadie, you had no idea how many hearts you were breaking with every kiss you gave her. You were the boy, Tucker. Every girl wanted you to look their way, to give them a second of your time, to…to be swept up in your world.”

Emma was in her final year of university to become a registered nurse. Emma was up to her eyes in classes, finals, clinicals and always had her nose in a book. Emma’s world comes screeching to a halt when she finds an eviction notice on her door and she suddenly finds herself homeless in a week. Finding a home is a hopeless task until one night her paths cross with Tucker, someone she hadn’t seen for years.

“…those words you uttered are out there in the universe, sitting there like a giant purple set of man balls, unshaven in the room. This isn’t pink-elephant-in-the-room status. We’re talking nasty, uneven, purple, hairy man balls, tickling you under the chin with its pubes. It’s there, exposed, reminding you every day of the one sentence you should have kept to yourself.”

Tucker was a construction supervisor and his life is full of dark. Tucker works and sleeps and lives the life of a recluse, that is the sum total of his life. His past continues to haunt him and the tethers to his ex and what they should have had keeps him firmly planted in the past. Tucker is a man drowning in a deep vat of depression and shows no sign of making a run for survival. My heart decimated for Tucker, he was such an adorable, honest and real character, his pain was my pain and my tears solidly fell for him so many times.

“You have taught me about perseverance, about the strength a human possesses, and that despite your upbringings and influences, you rose above it all and became the most beautifully broken man I’ve ever met.”

These two meeting was fate; Emma’s outgoing personality was the light that Tucker needed to make him see the wood for the trees. Emma’s personality was infectious and I loved the way that Meghan Quinn slowly infected Tucker with the “Emma effect.”

“And for your information, it’s polite to keep your condoms in your nightstand, not the medicine cabinet, unless you want me to start tossing my tampons around like fireworks, popping them in your face. Is that what you want, Tucker? Tampon fireworks? Because don’t test me, I will make it happen. I will make it rain period products…Feminine hygiene will be your worst nightmare, son!”

Tucker’s journey in this book was stunning and as more and more of the real Tucker is revealed you cannot help but fall hopelessly in love with him. Tucker was a man wise before his years, he had to grow up quick and had made all the right moves to do so, but sometimes life throws you for a loop and this was an endless loop that desperately needed to be broken.

“I knew you were gorgeous, Emma, but fuck me, you naked makes me want to worship every inch of your body…Combine that with your heart and your mind? I’m drowning in desperation for you.”

This was the epitome of the slow burn and I savoured every single minute of it. From friendship to blurry lines to conscience and more, Meghan Quinn captured this love story with realism, intensity and a huge dose of honest to goodness romance that had my heart beating a mile a minute. The anticipation was palpable as was the intense chemistry. The banter and dialogue was on point and as ever, Meghan Quinn’s hilarious personality shone through like a beacon. There was nothing I did not like in this book and my attention was rapt throughout. From the edge of my seat, willing these two to get it on my heart was beating a mile a minute and if any two-people deserved a happy ever after it was them.

“From one kiss, I can tell if the man I’m with locking lips with is worth the effort, if there’s hope for a future between us. The first time Tucker kissed me, I knew I was doomed. But now? I know I’ll be ruined for life.”

The side characters in this book really added value and I love that Meghan Quinn always delivers them with ease. I had so many laugh out loud moments, spit your tea out moments and this is the side of Meghan Quinn that I cherish. My Best Friend’s Ex has definitely earned its place as one of my top reads of 2017 and this will definitely be a book that I could re-read time and time again when I need a good dose of rom-com. Another fantastic book from Meghan Quinn.

About the Author:

Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if "It's Raining Men" starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.

Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing... enter her first novel, Caught Looking.

Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Oh and she loves a good boob squeeze!
