I’m wearing a huge smile as I get dropped off at my building and walk through the door, talking to Ariela on the phone.

Having her come back into my life after so many years has been both excruciating and exhilarating. But this weekend changed things. We faced our past together and, in one week, we’re going to decide if we want to pursue a future together.

As much as I want to be with her, honestly, I’m a little torn about it.

Part of me wants nothing more than to pretend we never broke up. But the reality is that she’s married. And even though she filed for a divorce, I wonder if it’s too much too soon.

In a very short time—on a whim—she came to California, was reunited with me, slept with me, filed for a divorce, got a new job, and went back to Eastbrooke. I mean, how many more life changes can she throw at herself all at once?

I loved her with everything I was in high school, and I was devastated when she left with nothing more than a goodbye.

And since she’s come back, she’s wreaked more havoc in my life.

Soon, I’ll have to decide if I want to risk another relationship with her. Even though she still looks like the girl I loved, she’s different—life, age, and time have that effect.

“Riley!” A shrill voice stops me in my tracks, wiping the smile off my face.

“Shelby, what are you doing here?” I ask, as she gets up from the couch in the lobby. “I told you I didn’t want to see you again.”

“I need to talk to you, Riley. It’s important. Can I please come up?”

I know girls like her. No way I’m letting her come up.

“Shelby, as in naked, leather-strap, threesome Shelby?” Ariela asks in my ear.

“Uh, hang on,” I say to her, putting the phone against my chest. Then I say discreetly, “Shelby, whatever you need to say, you can say here.”

“God, you’re such an ass,” she hisses loudly. “I thought you might want to do this in private.”

“I don’t want to do anything with you, in public or in private.”

“Well, you’re going to have to now, Riley. Because I’m pregnant,” she says, uttering the words no man wants to hear from a three-night screw.

“You’re what?”

“Do you really want to do this here?” she asks, glancing toward my doorman.

“Fine. Come up.” I drag her into the elevator. Once it closes, I say, “I don't know who you’ve been fucking, but if you’re pregnant, there’s no way that it’s mine.”

“Yes, it is, Riley. I haven’t been with anyone since we broke up.”

“We didn’t break up. You went to a few events with me. We fucked. And I used a condom every single time.”

She shrugs. “I don’t know what to tell you. They aren’t one hundred percent effective. I’m sorry, Riley. I certainly didn’t plan on getting pregnant.”

“Aren’t you on the pill?”

“No, it made me fat.”

I shake my head. I can’t fucking believe this. But I’m not stupid either. I go into my guest bathroom, grab a pregnancy test out of the cabinet, and then hand it to her. “Take this.”

“Why do you have that?”

“Honey, you’re not the first girl to tell me she’s pregnant.” I open it up and hand it to her. “Go pee on it, bring it out, and we’ll watch. See what happens.”

She hesitates, just as they all do. “Um, I don’t know if it will work yet. I’m barely pregnant.”

“So you didn’t do a test?”

“Yes, I did a test, Riley. God, you’re being such an ass.”

She’s right. I am. “I’m sorry. Please, for me, go take the test.”

“I will, I’m just saying that they aren’t all as accurate as the one I took.” She lets out a dramatic sigh and goes into the bathroom, not bothering to shut the door. When she sees me watching her pee, she gives me a sexy smile.

I turn around.

Of course, that’s what got me into this mess.

Please, please, don’t let her be pregnant.

I hear the toilet flush and turn around.

“Here’s the stick, Riley. I’m going to sit down. Pregnancy is exhausting.”

She flops down on my couch while I stare at the stick, willing the line not to change.

But it does.

“I just want love. I just want to be loved.”

For us staunch fans of the Keatyn Chronicles this is a book NOT TO BE MISSED!! You know when you have been waiting for something for soooooo long and the author never gives it to you…she makes you wait…for like what seems a million books…it is so frustrating…but Jillian Dodd delivers in this book. One of the most anticipated scenes in this series finally happens and Jillian Dodd delivered it with absolute perfection!! I had tears of happiness and because I have lived these characters for so long it actually felt like I was present. Everything just pulled these characters together, from boots to ferris wheels. It truly was the epitome of PERFECT!!

“You and I are like a promise. A wish. Proof that luck and fate bring people together. Proof that true love can survive the kiln. I promise to be patient, to continue to build a strong foundation with you, and to live a life unscripted.”

This is my favourite book of the Keatyn Chronicles books with them as “grown-ups” and it will bring a lot of KC Addicts to their knees…in a good way.

But of course, not everything is perfect and it would not be a Jillian Dodd book without a little drama and in this book the drama falls to Riley and Dawson.

“Then I can go back to being what I was when I got here. Broke. And broken.”

Riley, Riley, Riley…he has been bringing the drama to the table since he matured, it just seems to follow him around at the moment. He has his reasons but Riley can be just too stubborn at times and it is totally infuriating!!! I have to say he kind of let me down in this book…I know he has his reasons blah blah blah but I am hoping he redeems himself. He wasn’t the Riley I know and love in this book.

Dawson has really matured and he needed to do so quickly. The love that he has for his girls brings you to your knees and with him you know his choices are always with those girls at the forefront of his mind. His relationship with Vanessa has always been a bit up and down and this book is no different, however, I hope that these two have finally turned a corner. Even though at first I thought that these two were an unusual pairing, they actually work and I cannot wait to see what happens with these two going forward.

“This is all I want. Your love. Your heart. Your faithfulness.”
“That’s good…because that’s about all I have to give.”

I adore this series and as I always say, I have lived my youth vicariously through these characters and now they are now grown up I feel like a proud parent looking in. I cannot wait to see what else Jillian has in store for these characters. I just hope that one character in particular gets her just desserts…mama bear is not happy.

“And based on the gentle tone of his voice, I know he’s talking to her. And we can’t have that.”

About the Author:

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life -- a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's also been a mom; she has three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife; even though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey. Her favorite word starts with f and ends with k.

From roots in Houston, to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she's not writing, she's sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.

Book Description:

From New York Times Bestselling Author, Penelope Ward, comes a new standalone novel.

Sharing a summer house with a hot-as-hell roommate should be a dream come true, right?

Not when it’s Justin…the only person I’d ever loved…who now hates me.

When my grandmother died and left me half of the house on Aquidneck Island, there was a catch: the other half would go to the boy she helped raise.

The same boy who turned into the teenager whose heart I broke years ago.

The same teenager who’s now a man with a hard body and a hardass personality to match.

I hadn’t seen him in years, and now we’re living together because neither one of us is willing to give up the house.

The worst part? He didn’t come alone.

I’d soon realize there’s a thin line between love and hate. I could see through that smug smile. Beneath it all…the boy is still there. So is our connection.

The problem is…now that I can’t have Justin, I’ve never wanted him more.

Author's note – RoomHate is a full-length standalone novel. Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

Cover Reveal ~ Dare Me by Rebecca Shea

Dare Me releases March 28th

Book Description:

Five coworkers.

Four drinks.

Three glances.

Two fleeting smiles.

One dare.

A dare that will change my life.

That’s all it takes to send me plummeting into the arms of the mysterious Holt Hamilton. Behind his crystal blue eyes is a secret, one that screams danger but calls to me anyway.

My name is Saige Phillips.

I never walk away from a dare.

“I was watching you, Saige. I enjoy watching you.” Maybe that was bold of me, but I don’t care.
She audibly gasps, her chest rising and falling with each quick breath she takes.
I fix my eyes on hers and continue. “And I saw you watching me.”
Her upper lip twitches as she thinks of a sarcastic comeback. I can see the vein in her neck throbbing, along with the beat of her pulse before she finally whispers, “We shouldn’t do this.” She pulls a green olive off the toothpick floating in her martini, then she pops it into her mouth. The green olive matches her eyes perfectly.
I watch her shift uncomfortably in her chair for a few seconds before I respond. “Why not?”
“Because you’re my boss.” So naïve, sweet little Saige is.
“I’m actually not,” I tell her.
She frowns. “You own the company I work for, same thing.”
I clarify, “I’m part owner of the company you work for.”
She sighs. “Holt, this is just drinks. That’s all.” But her eyes tell me she wants more.
I lean closer to her. “It’s never just drinks, Saige.”

The Infatuation (Josh & Kat #1) (The Club #5)
The Revelation (Josh & Kat #2) (The Club #6)
The Consummation (Josh & Kat #3) (The Club #7)

“We’re the greatest love story ever told – our love is the wonder of the wise, the joy of the good, the amazement of the gods.”

I love Lauren Rowe’s humour and I always know that I am going to be laughing out loud when I read one of her books and this series is no different. It is this humour that really balances the angst and the heat within this series pages.

For those that are staunch fans of The Club Series, you will know that the first four books in this series centred around Jonas Faraday, Jonas was the serious one, the deep one, the sensitive one, the one that had been hurt by the past and relied on the loyalty and support of his brother to even focus and live at times, of course he now has his wife, Sarah, but Josh was always there and now it is his turn to shine.

“I’ve carried my brother’s sanity on my back my whole fucking life, even when I’ve barely been able to hold the weight of my own. And I’m tired.”

Josh Faraday is a bit of a jack the lad, a playboy, but underneath that façade, a toned body and pretty face is a man that is also deep and has that mysterious air about him, he is an enigma. He was one pretty parcel I wanted to unwrap layer by layer until the question was answered. Who was Josh Faraday?

Kat is Sarah’s best friend and we have already seen interaction between these two through Jonas’s story. Kat was the party girl with a hyphen. Kat is the total opposite of Sarah, she is confident, sassy, can give as good as she gets and has a fantastic sense of humour. She can really go to bat against Josh and at times it was hard to see who had actually won. Their text messages, their phone calls all had me in hysterics at times as well as feeling that intense sexual chemistry that always surrounded them.

“I'm not a girl who likes to be chewed up and spit out by any man. If anyone's gonna do the chewing up and spitting out, then it's gonna be me.”

There is some crossover with Jonas’s story and I would highly recommend reading that series first, it also cements just how pivotal Josh and Kat are in Jonas and Sarah’s world. While some events were familiar seeing them through different eyes gave a fresh insight into the Faraday’s as a whole and not once did it feel repetitive.

Lauren Rowe really delivers with Josh and Kat’s story. This is one couple that you can’t help but fall in love with. Their rapport is undeniable, they feed off each other and their dialogue at times is like watching a game of tennis but with many laughs rather than oooo’s and ahhhh’s. But with this couple Lauren Rowe delivers another facet to their story, as ever, she delivers on the emotional and the angst. At times it was frustrating but you know you have to take the rough with the smooth, all relationships have their ups and downs and these two are no different. With that undeniable fire that rages between them both in and outside of the bedroom you knew that these two would be combustible.

“From the minute I laid eyes on Josh, I felt like I’d hopped aboard a bullet train. Well, it looks like our train just jumped the tracks. And now there’s only one possible outcome. Crash.”

So the question on everybody’s lips is who is your favourite Faraday? My answer…impossible choice. These brothers are totally different and are totally endearing in their own way. But one thing that Lauren Rowe delivered was another fantastic series. As each book Lauren Rowe releases comes out I can see the growth in her writing, that deeper emotional connection with her characters and her character development as a whole, intertwine that with all that zany kind of Lauren Rowe humour and you have a match made in heaven. Sometimes you just click with an author’s writing style and that is what I have done with Lauren Rowe, while some may say the fun factor is a bit over the top, for me it just has me in hysterics as it resonates deep with the child inside. So yes, I laughed a lot, I swooned a lot, I cried a lot but most of all I loved a lot. These characters have made such an impact and it is a sad day knowing that this series has come to an end. However, I am going to beg Lauren for Hen’s story. I want to know all about the man behind the computer, the geek, the nerd, but a man with a heart of gold.

“My wish for you both is that you find eternal light outside the cave together.”

Blog Tour, Excerpt, Review & Giveaway ~ Hallowed Ground (Flight & Glory #4) by Rebecca Yarros

New Military Romance!
Hallowed Ground by Rebecca Yarros is
Now Available!

Book Description:

There are some debts you can’t repay.

Josh Walker is loyal, reckless, and every girl’s dream. But he only has eyes for December Howard, the girl he's craved since his high school hockey days. Together they have survived grief, the military, distance, and time as they’ve fought for stolen weekends between his post at Ft. Rucker and her college at Vanderbilt. Now that Josh is a medevac pilot and Ember is headed toward graduation, they’re moving on—and in—together.

Ember never wanted the Army life, but loving Josh means accepting whatever the army dictates—even when that means saying goodbye as Josh heads to Afghanistan, a country that nearly killed him once before and that took her father. But filling their last days together with love, passion, and plans for their future doesn’t temper Ember’s fear, and if there’s one thing she’s learned from her father’s death, it’s that there are some obstacles even love can’t conquer.

Flight school is over.

This is war.

I pulled her onto my lap, gently squeezing the sweet curves of her hips.
“Behave,” she whispered into my ear, but ran her tongue along the edge.
My fingers flexed, teasing under the edges of the black skirt that had slid higher on her thighs as she sat. I couldn’t help it—her skin was a magnet for my hands. “You like it better when I don’t,” I answered.
She locked those blue eyes on mine, and for that second, I wanted everyone to go the fuck away so I could get my remarkable girlfriend out of her clothes. Not a girlfriend for long. Not if I found the perfect moment for that little velvet box hidden upstairs.
Mrs. Walker. December-fucking-Walker. Sounded perfect to me.
“Earth to Josh and Ember,” Jagger called, waving his hand like he’d been at it a while.
“Yeah, yeah, a toast,” Ember said, wiggling against my now-hard lap. I locked her down with my hands, and she threw me a smug grin, well aware of what she’d done.
Jagger raised his beer. “To friends. Hell, that doesn’t even cut it. You guys, all of you...I wouldn’t be here”—he looked over to Paisley—“or even the man I am, without you. So more than family.”
We glanced around the fire at the family we’d made, and I felt it—one of those moments you can’t forget, the kind that stay with you when it’s long past, so you try to memorize everything. It was a deep peace, a contentment laced with the silent knowledge that we wouldn’t be together again for far too long.
“To family,” we all said in scattered rhythm, and I kissed the underside of Ember’s jaw.

(Although I signed up for blog tour I didn't receive an ARC so I downloaded on release day)

“War kills the people we love, either in body or soul, but they’re both equally devastating.”

So, this is the conclusion to the Flight and Glory series and we spend this book reconnecting with Josh and Ember from Full Measures which was the first book in this series. We catch up with these two when they have been together for two years. Josh is now a medevac pilot in the army and Amber is just about to graduate after studying Archaeology. They have just moved in together and Josh is about to deploy. It seems just as they are getting their lives sorted they have to be apart once again. But absence makes the heart grow fonder…

There is no denying the connection that these two have, they are the couple that their friends look up too with a love so strong it was enviable. One thing I never disputed while reading this book was just how much these two loved each other. It was tangible and made this book all the much harder to read.

“When it comes to you, to how much I love you, Josh, I have no morals. No honor. I would lie, cheat, murder, steal, dishonour everything I hold dear if it meant spending my life with you. No measure of duty, or God, or country could ever make up for losing you.”

With any relationship where the forces are involved it is always that fear that this will be the last kiss, the last goodbye, the last cuddle and the separation anxiety that Ember always went through really tore at my heart strings. Knowing that she comes from a military background and had already been through the dreaded officers visit before with regards to her father really brought that fear to a reality for her and it was one experience that she never wanted to go through again. But Ember and Josh both knew the risks involved for both of them and when a love was that strong the reward would always be worth more.

This is a journey for both of them. It is fraught with obstacles and insecurities but what a journey. Josh always wanted what was best for Ember, or at least what he thought was best for Ember and most of the time Ember would disagree but he always made his choices with her at the forefront of his decision making process, even if he was an ass at times…but his heart was in the right place.

“But if it was the right thing to do, why does it feel so wrong.”

Ember always put Josh first, she knew that he needed to be untroubled when he was on duty and did everything that she could to ensure that he always went out into battle with a clear head and a full heart. She was willing to sacrifice everything for him but sometimes those sacrifices were unwanted and this did cause problems for this couple. But it was all a learning curve, they are still young being in their mid-twenties and this was the first really serious relationship for both of them.

“A month ago I was a different man. A month ago, I never would have let her go. But this me? Yeah, well, maybe she was better off running.”

Rebecca Yarros really delivered an emotional and realistic military romance with Hallowed Ground, although I am not experienced, after reading I feel like I have lived it and I now know for sure I couldn’t ever live that life and I admire every single woman whose husband/boyfriend is currently serving. This was emotional, had a fair dose of angst but really brought home the sacrifices that our soldiers and their loved ones make every single day. I loved it.
