Blog Tour & Review ~ Dirty Little Secret by Kendall Ryan

DIRTY LITTLE SECRET
Forbidden Desires Book 1
By Kendall Ryan
Release Day – Sept 14, 2017

Book Description:

The start to a sexy new series from New York Times bestselling author, Kendall Ryan...

She’s much too innocent for me, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting the sweet, young librarian. I’m dominating and possessive, and my control streak runs a mile wide.

The way she looks at me—like I’m one of the heroes in the books she loves, like I’m broken, and she wants to be the one to piece me back together—it only complicates things further. I’m nobody’s hero.

But there’s no denying my tragic past reads like one of her favorite literary classics. It’s raw. Visceral. Captivating. And together, we’re a perfect mess.

How am I expected to resist when the sexual sparks zap between us and set me on fire? The need to control, and claim her force my walls to come tumbling down, but when she learns my dirty little secret, will my world come crashing down with it?

The story continues in Dirty Little Promise, releasing October 30th.

“This isn’t one of your storybooks. I never promised you a happy ending.”

I am in desperate need for book two, Kennedy Ryan certainly gets the reader hooked with Dirty Little Secret. Meek and timid librarian meets sexy, alpha, dominant owner of a high-class escort agency. A coffee shop their meeting ground for months, little glances and the librarian’s vivid imagination have left her wanton for the man that never gives her the time of day, until one day, he makes his move.

Our librarian, Emma Bell goes to the same coffee shop at the same time, every day just to catch a glimpse of the handsome stranger that she cannot stop thinking about. The coffee stop is the highlight of her day even if she largely goes ignored. One day though that all changes when he leaves his business card and this opens the lines of communication.

“I thought I’d come in and see what you had to offer.”
“About nine inches of hard-”

Gavin Kingsley and his brothers started their escort agency to enable women to safely sell their services. While their business is strictly companionship they are not oblivious that sometimes their dates and their mates end up doing more. All that is important to these brothers is that everyone is vetted and the women are safe.

The attraction between Emma and Gavin is electric, but with Emma’s naivete and Gavin’s reluctance to get involved they do not make it easy on themselves. However, surrounded by the Kingsley’s Emma gets a back bone and once she sets her mind on Gavin Kingsley she will do anything to convince him they could and would work.

“I’d denied myself this simple pleasure for so long, somewhere deep down afraid of getting too attached. But, fuck it, I was already in too far. Now, I might as well see this thing through until the end.”

Both characters have a reason to be on the back foot, both have their reluctances and both, to themselves have valid reasons for their actions. Gavin’s brother, Cooper is the brains behind operation Gavma, but even he isn’t immune to Emma’s charm. This is not a love triangle, but Cooper knows Gavin better than anyone and uses his wily charms to force his hand.

“Like whether he loved me the way that I loved him. Or whether he was capable of love at all. It was that last part that made my chest ache with uncertainty.”

This was an addictive read, and for some reason, Gavin’s aloofness only made him all the more lovable. Gavin was a character I wanted to nurture, I wanted him to believe in himself and Emma and the more their relationship progresses the more “romantic” he becomes. I cannot wait for the next one, I am desperate for these two to make it.

“Because I can’t fail again at this…Not with him. I wouldn’t survive it.”

Damn Ella Frank, damn these characters and damn my heart. Honestly, Ella Frank has delivered the perfect couple with Logan and Tate and of all the M/M’s that I have read these two have stayed with me the longest and the most, they are by far my favourite M/M couple. While their story was told in the original trilogy I am loving these extra books, nothing is superfluous and all adds to completing this couple’s life story. These two are so far in my heart I couldn’t care less if we get a book every year until they are old and grey, I am sure their life would never be boring. This book though pulled at every single heart string, Ella Frank nailed those emotions and as these two look to their future, sometimes with different outlooks than their past preferences, there is still work to be done, discussions to be had and answers to be given. I would be lying if I said tears were not spilt, I mean, these two are a part of me, when they hurt I hurt and while for the majority of this book I had the hugest smile, there are a few scenes where Ella ripped my heart out. This book though was simply perfection, it was honest, it was real and it was extremely heart-felt.

“IT WAS STRANGE how a life could change in the blink of an eye. How someone’s perception of things could alter in a nanosecond due to one look or word depending on the mood or the timing, or even the person they were with. And sometimes, when that happened, there was no explaining why. It just…happened.”

Logan has changed so much since he met Tate and his character growth in particular has been the most consuming. The moments that Logan bears all, his vulnerabilities, his insecurities and when he wears his heart on his sleeve are the most poignant, the most emotional and the most memorable. They don’t happen very often and when they do you feel it from the tips of your hair to the tips of your toes. Logan really puts everything out there in this book, my heart had palpitations, my eyes cried a merciless river, but I have to say I was never prouder.

“To Tate,
From the very beginning I had a plan for my life.
But it wasn’t until we met that I knew it was you.
~ Logan”

With Logan and Tate though, you always know that the love they have for one and other is of the forever variety. Despite the obstacles put in their path you know that they will fight through it, you know deep down that what they share is strong enough to endure anything and everything and it was these thoughts that kept me sane in this book. Yes, Ella Frank does give them another hurdle to overcome, but it makes them stronger in every way. People change, wants and wishes change and sometimes they knock you sideways. When that lightbulb goes off you think actions first, talk later, but sometimes actions don’t speak louder than words, sometimes the words are the ones we need the most.

“That brain of yours is fascinating and slightly terrifying.”

Tate has a lot to deal with in this book and a lot of anguish to work through. The age-old saying is you can pick your friends but you can’t pick your family and family plays a huge part in this book too. Tate has a lot of soul searching to do, at times it is painful, but with Logan by his side and his voice in his ear, he has the best soul mate to help him navigate his thoughts and feelings. Everything in this book makes them stronger, together these two are impenetrable and despite the hiccups the end is what I am anticipating the most.

“The romantic gesture would’ve been amazing if we’d been on the same page. But for once in our relationship, I was several chapters ahead of him, and didn’t bother to warn him about the giant twist that was about to take place.”

With our favourite characters all making appearances I cannot leave out our two singletons, Priest and Robbie. While I am not sure if these two will end up together, there is a lot of sexual tension between these two and there is a fine line between love and hate. I am so intrigued by the reclusive, enigmatic, Priest. Robbie is the complete opposite, wild, out there, albeit a little calmer than his past. Could this be a match made in heaven or a match made in hell? I hope Ella Frank regales us with their stories too. I have to mention Tate’s dad, OMG this man, I adored him in this book, three little letters have never meant so much.

“Later tonight I’ll take the birthday boy back to our suite and prove to him just how crooked this straight tree’s roots have become over the years.”

As ever, the character connection was nailed, the emotion was nailed and the sex scenes were seriously off the charts. This was Ella Frank at her very best and I cannot wait for the final book in Logan and Tate’s epic journey. January cannot come soon enough.

Excerpt:

When Logan came to a stop in the doorway, he spotted Tate seated cross-legged on the floor in amongst piles of books, DVDs, and paperwork in various files and binders. There was stuff everywhere, and when Tate looked over his shoulder at Logan, he couldn’t stop himself from smiling at the picture he made. Tate was wearing grey sweats and a faded green t-shirt with some band he’d seen years ago printed on it. But that wasn’t what had Logan crossing to him, wanting a kiss. No, that’d be all those damn curls. They were sticking out all over the place and framing his face as Tate aimed that charming grin of his up at Logan. Logan bent down and pressed a kiss to those curved lips, and Tate hummed and gladly returned it. “Looks like you’ve made some progress,” Logan said. Tate looked around and nodded. “Yeah, a bit. God, that smells amazing.” “Here.” Logan handed him the box. “No point in moving. I’ll grab some paper towels and drinks. What do you want?” Tate put the pizza box down in front of him. “A water.” Logan shook his head and then headed out to the kitchen, calling over his shoulder, “I’ll never understand how you drink water with your pizza. That’s just wrong.” “I’ve always had water with it. Habit, I guess. Oh, hey? Are you still okay with going to Jill’s this weekend?” Logan grabbed the paper towels, a Coke and water from the fridge, and then walked back into the study, tossing the bottled water. “Yeah, of course. I assume you decided it would be a good idea?” “I don’t know that I’d go that far. But I want to see my nephews, and I’d really like you to meet them and my friends.” Logan tried to keep his face neutral as Tate’s words went straight to his heart. But damn, not only was he proud of Tate, he felt incredibly loved by him in that moment. “Then we should go.” Tate flipped open the pizza box and scooted over to make room for him, and as Logan took up the vacated spot, he let his eyes wander around the disaster zone and cleared his throat. “This room is a mess.” Tate tore off a paper towel and then picked up a slice of the deep-dish pepperoni they’d decided on. “I’m thinking it’ll probably take us the longest. Who knew we had so much junk in here?” Logan reached for a DVD set sitting on the top of the pile and screwed his nose up. “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe? Really? I think we need a trash pile. Have you started one of those?” “Hey,” Tate said around a bite of his pizza. “Don’t even think about it. I grew up watching that.” “The important part of that sentence is you grew up.” Logan flipped the DVD over in his hand, read the back of the box, and then raised a questioning eyebrow. “This might actually explain a few things about you.” “Really?” Tate rolled his eyes. “Then it must also explain a few things about the majority of young boys in the eighties. That was a popular show. You aren’t throwing it out; it’s nostalgic. Plus, you never know, if you sat down and watched an episode with me, you just might like it.” “Highly doubtful.” Logan put the box down and reached for a slice of pizza. “Okay. Okay. I know you were more into books than TV,” Tate said, as his eyes went to the mountains of literature stacked in piles against the far wall. “What was something you read as a boy? Is it in one of those piles?” Logan swallowed his mouthful of food and looked over at the books while Tate kept on talking. “I mean, there are some pretty old-looking ones mixed in there with the autobiographies, textbooks, and National Geographics.” Logan looked back to Tate and narrowed his eyes. “Pretty old ones? What am I, sixty?” Tate unscrewed his water and took a long gulp, draining half of it, then put the lid back on and set it down. “Nope. About to turn thirty-eight, last time I checked.” “How about you stop checking?”
