Blog Tour ~ Review & Giveaway ~ Tight by Alessandra Torre

Book Description:

I was happy in my small town. In my life as a single, thirty-two year old woman. I had a good job, wonderful friends, my independence.

I also hadn't got laid in three years. Hadn't been on a date in two. Had stopped counting calories and wearing makeup... a while ago.

Then Brett Jacobs waltzed in. Caressed my thigh, dug rough fingers into my hair, lowered his soft mouth to my skin, took sexual control of my mind and stirred it all around with what he packed in his pants. He flipped my quiet life upside down and crawled into a place in my heart I thought was dead.

The issues?

His secret.

Her.

The fact that I don't even know she exists, and he thinks she's dead.

Everything is about to hit the fan and I can't hold on to him tight enough.

Review by Donna ~ 4.5 Stars

“…it could be the start of everything.”

Firstly, I wanted to say that the beginning of this book was initially published in a novella called Still that was part of the Bend anthology that was subsequently banned by Amazon. When I found out that Alessandra Torre was going to expand their story into a full novel I was excited!! Therefore, if the beginning sounds familiar then at least I can explain why.

I love books that make me think and this book certainly did that. From the very beginning you think you know what is happening but I bet you don’t. Well I certainly didn’t, I was way off the mark. It all seemed so obvious but I should I have known the sneakiness and the brilliance that is Alessandra Torre and thought to myself, this is too easy!! Well I can honestly say, I was floored, I know I am not great at guessing plot twists, I don’t think I have that kind of mind but I am normally on the right track, however, with this read, I was wrong all the way.

Riley is on a bachelorette weekend with her friends and already feels out of place. She is a small time girl, who comes from a small town and who works in a small bank as a Financial Advisor. Dressed to the nines and in shoes that are a size too small but were a bargain none the less, she stumbles through the casino and into the foyer to sit on the comfy chairs and to rest her blistered, squashed and weary feet. A knight in shining armour has witnessed her plight and comes to her rescue with a pair of fluffy slippers (swoon)…his name is Brett.

“I feel like I’ve waited my whole life for you.”

Brett oozes wealth, confidence and sex appeal. He soon realises that Riley is not your typical bachelorette weekend kinda girl and acts the perfect gentleman. Riley is definitely not the one night stand kinda girl but there is something about Brett that makes her want to throw those kinds of thoughts out the window. Their paths cross several times and does lead to Riley caving in to what she thinks will be a one night stand, but Brett has other ideas. It seems that he is smitten and the fact that Riley is leaving on a jet plane is not going to deter him. Let operation long distance seduction begin.

Tight ~ Webster’s fifth definition ~ A bond which cannot be broken”

Brett seemed perfect on the inside and out, his seduction techniques would have any woman caving, with flowers and gifts and exotic long weekends but the way the story is written from Riley’s POV you cannot help but sense her mistrust. There is something about Brett that does not ring true to her but what could this seemingly perfect man be hiding? With rumours rife about drugs and human trafficking, could this be something he is tied up in, could this be the source of his wealth?

This book does cover some hard hitting subjects and some of it is not pretty. But what is detailed is not salacious or gratuitous but is a necessary part of the story.

Any kind of mistrust in a relationship is not good, especially in a relatively new one, and with everything that Riley has red flagged, and Brett always manages to allay her fears. But sometimes you could not help but get that sinking feeling. Was Brett too good to be true?

I have to say I loved Brett, even though I had those niggling doubts he just didn’t seem to be the guy that this story tries to make you believe he is and if it was true then I was hoping that there was a reasonable explanation as to why. For only the second time in his life he had found love and he was determined to make it work. This guy goes all out and I couldn’t help but swoon and wish I was Riley.

Riley, having a chief of police as a father has always led to her mistrust of everyone and I personally felt that she was perhaps letting this get in the way of taking Brett at face value at times and making her assumptions. I realise that Brett did nothing to allay her fears at times but I was hoping that she could give him the benefit of the doubt and not make any rash decisions.

“The puzzle piece fell, loose and unattached, to the bottom of the pile.”

But these two certainly make on intriguing read. With the chapters mainly from Riley’s POV you can see how she grows as a person, the positive influences that Brett has on her and then her anguish as she tries to come to terms with what her mind is telling her.

The chapters that will have you intrigued are those written from another character POV. I thought I knew what I was reading, I thought I knew how it was going to end but I was wrong on all counts. While you are reading these chapters and you fell that they just don’t make sense and why are they there…all will be become clear. It was extremely clever and well thought out. Kudos to Alessandra Torre.

“He had saved me from hell, and healed me back to life, all in less than two years. We were one unit and not only could our bond not be broken, it would only strengthen with time.”

Totally loved this one!!
