Friday Fright ~ PNR Review ~ Bite the Dust (Blood and Moonlight #1) by Cynthia Eden

Book Description:

Vampires. Werewolves. Beasts that hunt in the night...When New Orleans Detective Jane Hart investigates her first official homicide case, she never expects to have her world ripped apart. But the murder she’s investigating is part of a deadly war between vampires and werewolves…and now Jane is caught in that eternal battle. A battle that can’t end well.

Werewolf Aidan Locke has been running New Orleans for years. It’s his job to keep the vamps out of the city. But when a Master Vampire comes to town, determined to unleash hell, Aidan knows it’s time to fight with all the fury of his pack. Beast versus vamp, until the last breath. Then he meets Jane…

One look, one taste, and Aidan knows that Jane is far more than she seems. Far more than she even knows herself to be. She’s important in the paranormal war, not a pawn to be used, but a queen to be won. And if he can’t keep her at his side, if he can’t stop the darkness from descending on the town…then Jane Hart will become not just a fierce cop, not some guardian, but something deadlier. Darker. Aidan will fight heaven and hell to change her fate. To change their fate because he is more than just a predator.

And Jane is more than prey. Far more.

The world is changing—for the humans and the monsters. Hot, sexy, and intense, BITE THE DUST is the first novel in New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Cynthia Eden’s dark new “Blood and Moonlight” series.

Our Review:

Reviewed by Shirley ~ 5 stars

As always Cynthia Eden has not disappointed in this, the first book of her new series. It is a fantastic book with a hell of a punch. It has a fast paced story from start to finish, keeping the readers interest at full blast.

The characters are brilliant and you have just got to love the Alpha, Aiden Locke, who starts out the strong silent type but boy does he heat up nicely, very nicely indeed. Then there is Detective Jane Hart who works for the New Orleans police force. She is one tough little lady but even she did not see what was coming for her, not in her wildest dreams, nightmares maybe.

The story starts with a murder of a girl, who was found outside the local club Hell's Gate. Jane is sent out to investigate. This being her first homicide as a detective she wants to do well for her victim and bring the murderer to justice but nothing is what it seems as she soon finds out. While on the scene she happens to notice a man looking directly at her, and when she confronts him he tells her his name was Locke but then eludes her. She later finds out his name is Aiden Locke and he owns Hell's Gate.

The next time they came in contact with one another things were different. It was then that Aiden finds he has a problem on his hands in the shape of one Jane Hart. For once the Alpha werewolf who has run New Orleans for a very long time has met someone unlike anyone he has ever met before.

“He hadn't expected it. Hadn't expected to feel the beast within him practically howling in pleasure because he'd found someone he wanted. Craved. Someone he would have.”

He just knew she was going to be pivotal in the upcoming war that was looming between the werewolves and vampires, who were trying to take over New Orleans. For Jane she did not know what was happening to her investigation but she learns through Aiden all is not what it appears to be and neither was she. She soon finds herself being hunted by the same murderer that she is hotly pursuing.

Aiden is determined to keep Jane safe, she has turned his world upside down and the attraction that they share was growing...

"Because I want you".
Her heart thundered in her ears.
"I want you more than I can damn well ever remember wanting anyone. I look at you, and I ache. I want to take and take until you scream as you come for me."

The more time Jane spent with Aiden, the more she found that everything she had previously believed in went right out the window. For her it had always been working hard to rise up in the ranks, not letting any type of relationship interfere with that, but now she found Aiden was becoming everything to her and when they did get together it was mind blowing.

“He drove into her, sinking deep with one strong thrust. He stretched her. He controlled her. He pretty much wrecked her with pleasure. Because when he withdrew and thrust back into her, Jane came. There was no more holding back, she was just erupting.”

But it was dangerous times ahead for Jane and Aiden knew it only too well and that he had promised to himself that he would keep her safe or die trying.

Brilliant book. I can see a great series coming from this. Ms Eden you have done it again, five stars all the way.
