This eagerly awaited Book 10 in the Vampires of America series definitely does not disappoint. It has it all. The story is strong, violent like only a good vampire book can be and a relationship between the two main characters, Christian and Natalie, that is hot, sexy and erotic. Brilliant.

Right from the first page you are pulled into this amazing fast paced story. Christian a very powerful and charismatic vampire from France has come over to America with his trusted child and best friend Marc. He had heard that the Lord of the South, Lord Anthony was abdicating and a challenge had been arranged to find the strongest vampire to take over this prestigious seat and Christian was going to compete and in his own mind he was in no doubt that he would come out the victor. Also he had to overcome the other American Lords distrust as his sire had tried to oust the most powerful vampire of all, Raphael, but in her madness came her downfall and death and Christian had kept himself apart from this conspiracy. And he wanted to make sure that Raphael knew of this. Christian had heard what a great leader Raphael was and when he actually met him, with the power that exuded from Raphael he knew that everything he had been told was true.

Proving himself to Raphael was his first step in the battle he faced and when he left their meeting he was quietly confident that he had convinced Raphael that he was no threat and that he would be a good ally to him. His next step was to make an appointment to see Lord Anthony to tell him of his interest in competing in the challenge.

The woman’s voice that answered his call affected him like no other. Her creamy smooth voice with a hint of sexy purr and the drawl of New Orleans made him feel like a randy teenager again and he couldn't wait to put a face to her voice. This voice he heard belonged to our second main character Natalie a forensic accountant who Anthony had brought in to go over his predecessor’s books as he had been known to have robbed people blind during his sociopathic rule. Natalie, a brilliant lovely woman from New Orleans had been working among the vampires for the past two years but as of yet had kept herself apart from them until her fateful meeting she had when Christian walked through the door. The chemistry that sparked between them was there for all to see.

Natalie couldn't help but notice the breadth of Christians shoulders and also having his back to her what a really nice butt he had and when he turned…

“A square jaw, sensuous lips, and dark blond hair just long enough that it would hang in his navy blue eyes when he was on top her, muscles flexing as he pumped ... Oh dear God.”

Christian was not unaffected when he actually first met Natalie much to someone’s displeasure.

“The scent of Natalie's fragrance followed Christian as he strolled into Anthony's office. Subtle, feminine, but with just a touch of spice. Just like Natalie herself. She was a lovely temptation with her auburn hair falling loose over her shoulders, her silk blouse and figure hugging skirt showing off her long smooth legs. She'd been flustered by him, and he had a feeling Natalie didn't fluster easily. He wasn't in Houston to hook up with anyone, but that didn't mean he couldn't. He wouldn't mind a taste of Natalie. And he was a man who usually got what he wanted.”

But Christian had other things on his mind I.e. becoming Lord of the South and everything that that involved but he knew that Natalie would be in his life.

The story weaves its spell around you. Amid the violence that Christian faces the attraction between him and Natalie grows to hot sexy heights.

“Natalie's body had become a single throbbing, pulse of desire, every beat of her heart sending scorching need pulsing through her arteries. She ripped the last hook away, and her chest expanded with a deep breath of relief as the confining bra fell away from her breasts, her nipples so hard and swollen that the fabric hung up briefly before she dragged it down. A rumble of sound came from deep in Christian's chest as he eyed her bare breasts. He yanked her underwear over her hips, under her ass, and down her legs in a single smooth motion, and tossed them to one side. "Do you want this, Natalie?" he asked, his expression deadly serious as he stared up at her. She swallowed, her voice scratchy on a dry throat. "Yes," she said, and knew it was true. She wanted Christian with a yearning that wouldn't ease, but this was more than that, more than simple sexual desire. She wanted Christian, not just the beautiful vampire, but the man. "I want you," she told him.”

I will say no more as I don't want to spoil other reader’s enjoyment, but I assure you this book is fast paced and a real page turner. It is compelling and the relationship between Christian and Natalie is hot and erotic. I personally think that this is one of the best in this amazing series. It is well worth a re-read and this time I will take it slower and savour it.
