Friday Frights ~ PNR Review ~ The Vampires Fake Fiancee (Nocturne Falls #5) by Kristen Painter

Book Description:

Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town where Halloween is celebrated 365 days a year. The tourists think it's all a show: the vampires, the werewolves, the witches, the occasional gargoyle flying through the sky. But the supernaturals populating the town know better.

Living in Nocturne Falls means being yourself. Fangs, fur, and all.

Sebastian Ellingham isn’t known for being a happy vampire. And when his long estranged wife comes to town expecting to pick up where they left off, things take a sharp turn toward cranky. Sure he’s been protecting her for centuries, but her assumption that he’s still available (he is) rankles.

His answer is to hire a woman to play his fiancée. The lucky victim is Tessa Blythe, sister of one of the town’s deputies, librarian in need of a job and, oh yes, reluctant Valkyrie. Playing along with Sebastian is all about the end game for her, the position of Dean of Library Studies at the local private academy.

When unexpected sparks fly between them, they agree to mutually deny the attraction. Fate, however, has other plans…

What I love about these books written by Kristen Painter is that good old romance has not disappeared. Just a hint of sex but you feel the loving coming off the pages for all that which keeps you turning the pages to see how this delightful story unfolds.

We're back in the town that's Halloween all year round and the paranormal beings walking around are real not the fakes that they show to all the tourists that flock to Nocturne Falls.

This book is about a man who is the eldest of the Ellingham family. They are the people who have helped to make Nocturne Falls the thriving town that it is today. Sebastian is the money man making sure that everyone keeps within the budgets to keep the town flourishing. He gives out the impression of a dour recluse. Although he has the good looks of this renown vampire family he has never been involved with another woman. Secrets from the past and an estranged wife called Evangaline has put paid to that.

This story is about Evangaline showing up in Nocturne Falls giving the impression that she wants to put the past three centuries behind them. All her flighty ways and numerous affairs to be ignored and to get back together as man and wife.

Over the years Sebastian being the loyal person he is has always looked after Evangaline financially and in all honesty has still held a candle for her remembering who she once was when he first met her not the woman she is today. Because of promises made all those centuries ago when he married Evangaline he has felt duty bound to her but this proposal she has come up with after not seeing her after all this time has totally bowled him over and in retaliation came out with that he was not free anymore and in fact has a fiancée. The only thing is that he hasn't got one and now he must find one quickly.

This is where Tessa Blythe comes in, a Valkyrie, sister to Jenna who is the towns deputy. Jenna has embraced their shared Valkyrie heritage but all Tessa wants to be is a librarian, enjoying her love of books and this is where the sisters differ. A job opportunity has opened up at the local Academy for Dean of Library Studies and Jenna was quick to persuade Tessa to leave Ohio and apply for the job. Tessa finally agrees after much persuading and goes to the fated interview and meeting Sebastian and this is when this delightful story begins.

You will read about the growing relationship between Sebastian and Tessa and how the manipulative Evangaline enjoys putting spanners in the works, but the quiet looking Tessa gives everyone a surprise in how she deals with her. Because of circumstances that you will read about Tessa and Sebastian have to be in close proximity to one another and on seeing Tessa out of her straight laced librarian clothes and just wearing a pyjama top she had borrowed off him he was totally bowled over.

“He picked his head up to meet her gaze, hoping he hadn't inadvertently drooled on himself. Her hair was bound in a messy knot on top of her head and her face was scrubbed clean, leaving her cheeks pink. She looked like a wild creature. A forest nymph. He wasn't sure he'd ever seen a woman more beautiful.”

With the growing attraction for each other getting stronger the more time they spent together, circumstances brought these feelings to the fore which led them to telling each other exactly how they felt and Sebastian couldn't help showing a delighted Tessa exactly how he felt.

“He came off the bed in a graceful burst of energy to pull her into his arms and kiss her soundly. He wrapped her in his embrace, holding her close. His kiss was wild and a little rough and she swore she felt the scrape of his fangs over her bottom lip.”

But not all was well with a devious and spiteful Evangaline on the scene and as the story progresses you will see what I mean. I really loved this book. It had a delicious old fashioned way of romancing and was very endearing for the readers. It shows a good romance between two people who never thought that strong love would ever be theirs and how fate would prove them wrong.
