Release Day Blitz, Review & Giveaways ~ Moonshot by Alessandra Torre

Moonshot by Alessandra Torre is LIVE!!!

Book Description:

Baseball isn’t supposed to be a game of life and death…

The summer that Chase Stern entered my life, I was seventeen. The daughter of a legend, the Yankees were my family, their stadium my home, their dugout my workplace. My focus was on the game. Chase … he started out as a distraction. A distraction with sex appeal poured into every inch of his six foot frame. A distraction who played like a god and partied like a devil.

I tried to stay away. I couldn’t.

Then, the team started losing.

Women started dying.

And everything in my world broke apart.

“Baseball shouldn’t be life or death. Baseball shouldn’t determine fates.”

Ty Rollins was the daughter of a baseball super star, after the death of her mother, her father, Frank, couldn’t bear to part with her so she grew up on the road. From seven years old Ty was a staple in the Yankee’s fold and they became her family. Now seventeen years old Ty is more entrenched in the Yankee’s than ever. Ty, is a Yankee’s ball girl, the players and management adore her alike, she bleeds baseball, has stats coming out of her ears and has an arm on her, she is definitely one of the lads and the team. She eats, sleeps and breathes baseball. Having been on the for most her life she is home schooled and as such is quite isolated and because of this is a bit naïve and innocent when it comes to the opposite sex. However, having been so sheltered and definitely off limits to any player she has never been in a position to explore that side of herself. The owner’s son is interested and the parents try to push them together but Ty just doesn’t really feel that way about him at all despite the peer pressure. However, when Chase Sterns comes to the Yankee’s all of her spidey senses are definitely on high alert, she has admired him for years, has followed his career, has loved him from afar and now he is a Yankee.

“He was born to wear our pinstripes.”

I loved Ty from the start, for someone that had had an unconventional life she had made the most of it and loved the way her life had turned out, she wouldn’t have it any other way. The relationship between Ty and her father, Frank brought tears to my eyes and was one of the most beautiful relationships between father and daughter I have had the pleasure to read about. Alessandra Torre really delivered on that connection and it is one that will stay with me for a very long time. The sense of camaraderie within the team, the fact that they all look after Ty and the fact that Ty looks after them like a mother hen was heart-warming and although I’m not American I really wanted to go to a baseball game, this book was that infectious.

“Men had been killed over kisses like that. Careers had been lost. Hearts had been stolen.”

Chase Sterns is twenty-two, a baseball star and his reputation precedes him. He more than makes use of the trappings of fame that a baseball star garners, especially with the female of the species, even team mate’s wives, hence his trade to the Yankees. Chase was a bit naïve but he uses the fame, the drugs, the women to forget, but there is a lot more to Chase than just the exceptional hitter. But being his age and his rapid rise to success, bad decisions are a given, but when his latest indiscretion gets him to the Yankees he feels it is hardly a punishment at all.

“Life is a series of stupid decisions interrupted by luck.”

It was obvious that Ty and Chase would meet, but these two were on an inevitable collision course…literally. From the time they first meet, battle lines are drawn. Ty wrapped up in her hero worship and Chase literally falling at the feet of a girl that sweats baseball and exudes it with every word that leaves her lips. A girl that knows the game but most importantly a girl that takes her time to really get to know him, not the superstar. While their first meets are not so amicable, Chase soon has Ty making decisions she would never make, but it is “their time” that really cements this friendship and as these two learn about one and other it is obvious that the chemistry is present in spades, it was palpable.

“And just like that, five blocks away from the Marriott Marquis, we were official. Officially together. Officially committed. Officially screwed.”

Sometimes fate has other ideas though, maybe the time isn’t right, maybe it wasn’t their time but a truly lifetime bond was made, a first love, but now five years later with mistakes under their belt their paths cross once again.

“As a teenager he had corrupted me. As a woman, he had ruined me.”

For me the first half of this book was an outstanding five star read, I was emotionally invested with both characters and my heart broke for them and loved them all at the same time. Alessandra Torre really nailed that forbidden love, but a love that was true and strong none the less. Yes, they were young, but the heart wants who the heart wants and sometimes you just have to listen to it. For me though, the second half was a bit flat and Alessandra Torre delivers an element of suspense and mystery as a side plot to Ty and Chase’s all-consuming love story. This, I personally felt wasn’t needed and detracted from what was in itself a fantastic story. When the reveal came and the reasons behind it, it was a WTH moment for me and a bit of an eye roll moment. None the less, the beauty of Ty and Chase kept me captivated from start to finish and everything about them had me smiling from ear to ear. From midnight chats, to runs, to text messages to flinging notes, everything about these two pulled at every heart string. I adored these two individually and especially as a couple. As ever, Alessandra Torre delivered an exceptional read and her writing once again totally captivating…now I need to find baseball in the UK…

“For a moment where everything had finally come together, something felt off.”
