“I don’t want to forget that for a little while, Matt Hamilton—forty-sixth president of the United States—was mine.”

Commander in Chief was one of my most highly anticipated reads of 2017, after Mr President, which was a five star read for me, I couldn’t wait to reconnect with Matthew and Charlotte. Commander in Chief starts a few months after the end of Mr President and Charlotte has been away in Europe to try to mend her broken heart without all the memories of Matt and Matt has been building up to his inauguration all the while missing the one person he has ever loved, Charlotte.

With the new Presidency, Matt is taking control of his new life and that new life most certainly has Charlotte at the forefront. Despite how they ended he wants Charlotte to be his first lady and will go to any lengths to make it happen. His charming personality and the love that they have for one and other are the biggest weapons in his arsenal.

“I’m faced with the doubts I suppose we’re all faced with, wondering if we’re enough, if we have the mettle to back up the shiny illusion of our best version of ourselves in our minds. But that’s the point, isn’t it? To try to chase it, even if it may always feel elusive. Except this dream is too big for me to fail at. I want to be a great first lady; I want to be a great woman deserving of a great man. The man I love.”

This book is seriously hot, Katy Evans certainly delivers on the sex scenes in this book and your kindle will seriously warrant a visit to the freezer many, many times. I had that character connection I crave, and the chemistry and intense love that these two had for each other was apparent in spades. As with any Katy Evans read this book oozed passion and love and you couldn’t help but be swept away by Matt and Charlotte’s story.

“Immeasurably, baby. I love you immeasurably.”

For me though, this book read more like a reality show, in so far as it follows their day to day life in the White House for many, many years. At times, I found my attention waning as we were treated to many descriptions about clothes, food, décor and such and for a Katy Evans read this was as plain sailing as they come, no real drama, no angst, no conflict. This was a sweet, swoon worthy read from start to finish.

“…but along with those is the steely look of a woman, of a woman coming into her own.”

These two lead the perfect life, everything was perfect. Personally, I would have loved to have seen Presidential struggles rather than Matt seemingly getting every bill he wants passed with no battles. I was looking forward to a little more insight into that side of things although I loved what I did get. I do think that a little more politics may have balanced the sweet of their personal lives and given this book a little more meat to keep the reader constantly interested.

I loved Matt and Charlotte, these two were so well suited, they were the peoples President and First Lady and the adoration that these two received throughout the book was great to read about, especially considering the animosity towards the current President Elect, maybe this was wishful thinking from Katy Evans. In summary though, I liked it, I just didn’t love it like Mr President.

“I notice even our presence anywhere inspires people—gives people hope. The hopeless are hopeless no more. We stand for something. We stand proudly for that something.”
