Book Description:

From New York Times bestselling author, Penelope Ward, comes a sexy, STANDALONE second-chance romance.

They called him Mack Daddy. No, seriously, his name was Mack. Short for Mackenzie.

Thus, the nickname. Perfect, right?
So was he: perfect. The perfect physical male specimen.

At the private school where I taught, Mack Morrison was the only man around in a sea of women.
Everyone wanted a piece of the hot single father of the sweet little boy. I was riddled with jealousy, because they didn’t know that—to me—he was much more.
They didn’t know about our past.
He’d chosen my school for his son on purpose, because Mack and I, we had unfinished business.

As my friend Lorelai so eloquently put it: “Unfinished business between two people who are clearly attracted to each other is like an eternal case of blue balls.” And I was suffering in pain from my case.

I was still intensely attracted to Mack. I tried to resist him, immersing myself further into a relationship with another man just to protect my heart.
Not to mention, getting involved with a parent was strictly against school rules. But seeing Mack day in and day out was breaking me down.

And soon I might be breaking all the rules.

Author's note – Told in alternating points of view, Mack Daddy is a full-length standalone novel

“Unfinished business between two people who are clearly attracted to each other is like an eternal case of blue balls.”

Penelope Ward delivered an angsty, swoon fest when she delivered Mack Daddy. Second chance romance is a trope I adore and add into the mix a single Dad and this one ticked a lot of boxes.

Francesca O’Hara (Frankie) and Mackenzie Morrison (Mack) were roommates in college. Frankie and Mack were two complete opposites and yet somehow these two just clicked from the moment they met. Mack was in a relationship at the time and his relationship with Frankie was purely platonic, but the more and more time that these two spent together the more and more the emotions and feelings that these two harboured for one and other bubbled to the surface. For these two though the time was not right, kismet was not falling gracefully for them at all.

“I guess you don’t really understand what it feels like to truly connect with someone until it happens. You think what you’ve experienced up until a certain point is all there is. Then, someone comes along and rocks your world, and you realize you didn’t know shit about shit.”

Frankie had anxiety issues and was shy and retiring, whereas Mack was an asshole, overly confident with an ego to match. Frankie tampered down Mack’s inner asshole and Mack brought Frankie out of her shell, these two complemented each other, they were true soul mates. These two had taken their time to become friends, they knew one and other inside out and were always there for one and other whether it be a shoulder to cry on or a person to vent to.

“I’ll make a deal with you. I’m an asshole, right?” “Okay…” “You’re a scaredy cat—a pussy.” “I’m a pussy…” “I’ll rub some of my asshole off on you if you rub some of your pussy off on me.”

Frankie is now a first-grade school teacher and is in a two-year relationship with a university professor. There is a huge age gap between these two, but it works for them. Mack is now a single dad and has undertaken the task of enrolling his little boy into school and it is no coincidence that the school he chose was where Frankie worked.

“Maybe you just thought you were moving on, but maybe you were just blocking it out.”

Mack was adorable on all counts, even with the flashbacks to the past you could tell just how much he loved and cared for Frankie and was decimated when it couldn’t work. Now though, Mack is back and is like a dog with a bone and this time he is not walking away.

“…he can’t move on until he knows there’s absolutely no chance with you. Whether you know it or not, you’re carrying that man’s heart around with you everyday. At some point, you either need to give it back and set him free…or give him yours.”

This book was unexpectedly angsty with some unexpected plot lines that made this an easy and addictive read. Hearts and panties do not stand a chance with Mack, the love he has for his son, his pursuit of his Frankie and his tenacious attitude to winning the woman he has always wanted were all admirable qualities and gave way to some fantastic scenes and dialogue. I adored the way that Mack’s vulnerabilities were always on display and despite his outgoing bravado his insecurities were never far behind. Another great read from Penelope Ward.
