Blog Tour, Review & Giveaway ~ The Cad and the Co-Ed (Rugby #3) by LH Cosway and Penny Reid

The Cad and The Co-Ed, a quirky and sexy romantic comedy from Penny Reid & L.H. Cosway is available now!!

Book Description:

THE CAD

Bryan Leech is a cad.

Or, he *was* a cad.

No one is quite certain.

Once the quintessential playboy, Bryan claims he’s done with wild parties and weekend benders. No more one night stands leading to mornings he can’t remember; no more binges and blackouts; no more exploits plastered all over the tabloids and rag sheets. According to Bryan, he’s cleaning up his act.

The only problem is, no one believes him.

THE CO-ED

Eilish Cassidy never thought she’d be a mother at nineteen or still in college at twenty-four. Cut off from every member of her family except her favorite cousin, she’s finally managed to put her life back together. Stronger and wiser, Eilish enters her last semester of university determined to stand on her own. Now she just needs to find an internship.

The only problem is, her best option—by far—places her directly in the path of her son’s father, and he doesn’t remember her at all.

THE PLAN

Bryan is determined to prove he’s changed. Eager to settle down with the right woman, he’s got his sights set on the gorgeous redhead who seems terribly familiar.

Eilish is determined to hide her secret. She’ll do anything to keep her child safe, even if that means ignoring her own wishes and desires.

But what happens when Bryan starts to remember? And what will it take for Bryan to convince the girl he forgot that she’s unforgettable?

“She didn’t deserve to be forgotten. She deserved to be treasured.”

Once again, I have thrown myself at the mercy of LH Cosway and Penny Reid. This pen wielding duo made me love Rugby with The Player and The Pixie and now I was relishing second helpings with The Cad and the Co-Ed.

The hero in this book is none other than Bryan Leech, the party animal, the raving alcoholic and one totally out of control man. Bryan is permanently pissed, he drinks for breakfast, lunch and dinner, a habit only abetted by his alcoholic mother. Bryan has a revolving door of women, has little to no regard for the opposite sex and loves to uphold his manwhore reputation.

“If I wasn’t careful, Eilish Cassidy would be elevated to sainthood level in my mind. I decided I should debauch her before this happened.”

Eilish Cassidy is Sean’s cousin, but these two were more like brother and sister. The bond that these two have is seriously precious and having Sean in your corner was a god send for Eilish. Eilish was a sensible girl, loved her rugby and came from money, her love for the sport only enhanced by her cousin Sean. Eilish however only had eyes for one rugby star and his name was Bryan Leech.

One wedding, one night of passion and a morning after of blank stares left Eilish with a broken heart and a broken hymen. All her wildest fantasies had come true the night before only to be snuffed out with the realisation that Bryan must have been plastered and didn’t have a clue who she was. With her tail between her legs and her heart smashed to smithereens Eilish leaves the scene, but she leaves with more than she bargained for.

“But what I didn’t say, what I couldn’t give a voice to, what caught in my throat, too heavy with emotion to be spoken out loud, was that I didn’t need a prince. I’d happily settle for someone who wouldn’t forget me.”

Secret love child is a trope that can be very hit or miss for me. I think this is more from a moral standpoint for me, but I cannot see any reason to keep a man from his child unless his actions would cause you or the child harm i.e.: abusive. Bryan’s life was a mess, he openly admitted it, but maybe this little snippet of information could have been the motivation for him to clean himself up sooner? However, it didn’t happen, but LH Cosway and Penny Reid delivered a story that was believable and relatable and that was all I had hoped for.

“If guilt were an Olympic sport, I would have all the gold medals. All of them.”

Whenever these two write together you know you are going to get some serious eye leakage, whether it be from tears of laughter or emotional ones, and these two got me with both of them while reading this. As ever, the banter was on point, the dialogue hysterical at times and the tweets as ever were like gold dust. My only little niggle was that I felt the story dragged in places and that is the only reason I deducted a half star.

“You’re wrong. I’m attracted to you on every level. I want you, Eilish. I want you with every breath I take.”

Both these characters had their insecurities and trust issues, both are forever tethered to their pasts and the bad memories they entail so this was definitely a case of moving on from the shadows of their past and living for the present and future. Bryan’s reformation from party boy to grounded man was a long hard effort and for the house coat, slippers and mint tea drinking man he has become gave rise to some laugh out loud moments. But the chemistry between these two was fantastic. It may have been an unmemorable night for Bryan’s brain, but his heart and subconscious recognised Eilish in an instant. These two have a long, hard, road ahead of them. Secrets to uncover, bridges to build, new memories to be made, but when you have a love as strong as these two, they are just speed bumps, just life’s way of telling you to slow it down a little…after all, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Loved it!!
