For Holden Masters, there are some things money can’t buy, but that isn’t the case at the annual Magnolia Grove Cancer Charity Benefit. The only woman he's ever wanted is up for bids in a ‘secret date’ auction. This isn't the first time he’s yearned for Cammie Spencer. Despite family drama and a web of deceit having nearly sealed their fates, Holden refuses to give up without a fight.

After an unexpected turn of events, Cammie Spencer starts to wonder if there is more to life than being high society arm candy and whether her fiancĂ©, Oliver, is the man for her. There's no denying Holden’s always made her hot, but over the years, he's become the most tempting form of forbidden love.

Holden's only obstacle now is proving he’s more than the cocky bad boy she's pegged him for. Can he finally show her that their past doesn't have to define their future?

Will he be able to not only win her date, but her heart, before she marries the wrong man?

“I don’t want to be your rebound. I want to be your forever.”

JB McGee always delivers true romance, normally with a little angst and a lot of emotion and that is what she delivered with the Magnolia Grove series. Magnolia Grove is the story of childhood best friends that became very close to being sweethearts until life turned to shit and all they were left with was if’s but’s and maybe’s. Fast forward nine years and we pick back up with these two, one due to get married and the other hoping against all hopes he has one last chance to make her see the error of her ways.

“Do you really want to spend the rest of your life apologizing for your needs, for your existence? Begging to be seen? To be heard…Yearning to be touched and handled like the precious gem you are? Because I think – I know – you deserve better than he’s offering you.”

Camellia Spencer was a society girl who was trapped in the “women of Magnolia Grove” mentality. Where you married for status, a woman’s sole purpose was to keep her mouth shut and her husband happy and to turn a blind eye to their many indiscretions and maintain the stiff upper lip. Camellia loves her future husband…or at least she thinks she does…but he will never be the one that got away, the man that still holds her heart but is the one man that doesn’t want it…or does he?

“This isn’t even shit…It’s fucking diarrhea it’s so messy.”

Holden Masters is the black sheep of Magnolia Grove, his reputation tarnished by his father’s indiscretions and tarred with that age-old adage that the apple doesn’t fall from the tree. Underneath the bad boy rep though was a man with a huge heart and one that when it loves, it loves fiercely. Holden has only ever loved one person and that is Camellia Spencer, his time is running out and he knows it, her impending marriage is the wakeup call he needed and it is now time for him to grow a set, believe in himself and fix one of his biggest regrets, but is it too little too late?

“All I did was act the part that everyone expected because I didn’t give a fuck what anyone else though about me other than you. And I’d already lost you.”

As ever, JB McGee hits you in the heart with these two and I was personally championing them along even if the whole of Magnolia Grove had other ideas. These two have a lot of hurdles to jump, speed bumps to navigate and curve balls to dodge but the love that these two had only took a little spark to launch back into a raging inferno.

“Note to self: Define us. Give her the world. And a fucking dictionary.”

This was a cute romance, I loved both characters and especially loved them together. I loved the present and while I appreciated the past I just felt that there was too much of it and found myself struggling to remember where the present left off. Overall though, thoroughly enjoyed this read.

My strides are long and brisk. As soon as the cabana is within sight, I see the door isn’t completely shut. My instinct, once again, is spot-on. Grinning, I tap on the door before entering. “Cam, it’s me.”
“I obviously wanted time alone. So, fuck off.”
Damn. “You’ve got quite the potty mouth these days.” I chuckle. “It’s fucking hot as hell, but I told myself I’d be quiet, so I’m gonna shut up now and just come in. You don’t have to talk. You don’t have to act like I’m here, but you need to eat somethin’.”
She doesn’t say anything, so I push the door open, closing and locking it behind me. “Here,” I say, offering her the plate.
Her chin lifts and we’re staring into each other’s eyes, a standoff of sorts. She offers a small smile, which her furrowed brows contradict. Over the years, I’ve memorized her facial expressions, but I’m not sure if she’s glad to see me. Or not. “Thank you, but I lost my appetite a long time ago.”
“You need to eat. Just a few bites. Don’t make me beg more than I already have tonight.”
She’s on the sofa, her elbows resting on her knees, glaring at me. “I thought you said you were going to be quiet.”
Pulling a chair over, I place it in front of her, then sit down. “I said I would be quiet while you ate. If you’re not going to eat, I’m gonna annoy the hell out of you till you do.” I slice a piece of the filet, jab it with the fork, and offer it to her. “Want me to shut my mouth, then open yours.”
Cammie’s lips barely part, close, and then open again. She leans forward, accepting the delicate morsel. Atta girl.
While she chews that, I honor my promise to keep quiet. I cut the rest of the meat into pieces. I inch closer, offering her another bite. She moves closer too. Soon, we’re mere inches from each other. Her warmth, her flowery, sweet scent makes me reposition myself in the chair to keep my raging hard-on at bay. When I notice she has something in the crevice of her lips, instead of offering a handkerchief—like a gentleman would do—I gently brush my finger over the spot. I never said I was a gentleman. Or did I? I don’t care. I just want to touch her, to suck those lips until they’re swollen. I want to taste every bit of her mouth with mine.
I refuse to kiss her again after what happened earlier. I thought she wanted it then, but now, the only way that’s going to happen is if she initiates it or asks for it. But even with that said, there’s no way in hell I’m backing away, giving her any space. I’m staying put right where I am hoping she’ll be the one to beg me to finish what we started earlier.
I follow her eyes as they wander to the framed photo of our families near the entry. She’s standing with her brother, mom, and dad. Violet, my baby sister, and I are in front of Mom and Dad. Those were the good ole days. So good it hurts like a bitch. Her face tightens and her eyes squint. Seeing that picture, that look on her face, works better than a cold shower.

J.B. McGee is a mother, wife, and the Amazon Top 100 author of the best-selling This Series. Amazon Crossing acquired the German rights to her debut novel, Broken. Heartfall, her coming of age novel about a bullied ballerina, is a #1 best seller in the Teen and Young Adult Performing Arts genre. Skipping Stones, a military romance about a young woman strongly influenced by her faith and her family all the while searching for her true love, is a #1 best seller in Women's Christian Fiction.

When J.B.'s not writing, she enjoys reading as well as watching and live-chatting her favorite television shows with her friends. Her favorite shows are Quantico, Blindspot, Grey’s Anatomy, The Bachelor/Bachelorette, Below Deck, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Scandal (mainly because of her love of Scott Foley).

Born and raised in Aiken, South Carolina, she attended Converse College and eventually earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education from The University of South Carolina-Aiken in 2006.

In college, she was told by her children’s literature professor she would be the one student from her class to be an author. McGee shook her head and laughed. But in 2012, over six years after that statement was made and after a love of reading had been reignited, she gave writing a shot. J.B. gladly ate crow when she emailed her first book to the above mentioned children’s literature professor thanking her and acknowledging the accuracy of her prophecy.

In 2011, it was discovered that not only do both of her children, but also she and her husband, have mitochondrial disease. Affecting 1 in 2500 people, it has no cure or treatments. Being a writer allows J.B. to care for her family’s unique needs while also providing a platform for raising awareness for this disease.

She is a hopeless romantic who loves to escape into fairy tales—some she reads and some she creates.

J.B. McGee and her family now reside in Buford, Georgia.
