Blog Tour ~ Review, Giveaway & Special Excerpt ~ Thief (Love Me With Lies 3) by Tarryn Fisher

Book Description:

Note to Self

Love is patient; love is kind.
Love doesn't boast or brag.
There's no arrogance in love;
it's never rude, crude, or indecent-it's not self absorbed.
Love isn't easily upset.
Love doesn't tally wrongs.
Love trusts, hopes, and endures no matter what.
Love will never become obsolete.
I'll fight for her.

Thief

Caleb Drake never got over his first love. Not when he got married. Not when she got married. When life suddenly comes full circle Caleb must decide how how far he is willing to go to get the aloof and alluring Olivia Kaspen back. But for every action in life there is a consequence, and soon Caleb finds out that sometimes love comes at an unbearably high price.

"She’s mine. She always has been, she always will be."

Willow: I can still remember when you convinced me to read the Opportunist, I had been putting off because I heard it was emotionally draining, but you said that it was one of the best books you'd read so I had a go at it. I remember finishing it and being a little angry that I didn’t get my HEA, but I started to think that both Caleb & Olivia were f**ked up and would only destroy one another if they were together, so I was actually really scared going into this one, especially when I saw the blurb saying Caleb was going to fight for her. I have always been team Caleb secretly but we can see Tarryn is so good at writing a big mess of a relationship. What where you thoughts before you started reading?

Donna: I was nervous and reluctant, I had been waiting so LONGGGGGG for this book, I wanted my HEA for Caleb and Olivia, as you know I have always been team Caleb and knowing what a mind F**K Tarryn likes to dish out I was anxious. It was a case of I so want to open this book now, dare I open this book now, is Tarryn going to kill me with this book....oh shit just open the damn book and start...so I did.

Willow: Well we did have that conversation about me helping you bury Tarryn if we didn't get our HEA for them!!!

Again this book had a different feel than TO & DR, and I think that it’s great all three books felt different to me, they all felt like their character’s personality. TO was angst filled and difficult at times, DR was down right ugly and whilst Thief was not perfect it was more caring that the other two books.

Donna: I think that we saw a very different side to Caleb in this book, whilst in TO although I wanted them to be together I thought he was a stupid selfish git at times and so tactless, yet in this book, through the past chapters we got to see the real Caleb, the real turmoil, his real thoughts and feelings and that just made me fall in love with him even more...all of their crap that was dished out, whilst was their own fault to some extent, layed firmly at the feet of Leah and despite everything she even tried again in this book

"Selfish, self-centered Caleb Drake loved a girl so much he could already feel himself changing to accommodate her needs.
I fell.
Hard.
For the rest of this life and probably the next.
I wanted her — every last inch of her stubborn, combative, catty heart.
"

Willow: My heart totally broke 100 times for Caleb in this book, he was trying so hard and I totally agree with you, I thought in previous books he was just as manipulative as Olivia and Leah (well maybe not Leah - she is the queen of bitches) but I too fell in love with Caleb in this one.

"God. I think of Olivia now and a peace settles over me. She might not be mine, but I’m hers. It’s no use even fighting it anymore. I just keep falling flat on my face and then rolling toward her. If I can’t have Olivia Kaspen, then I’ll be alone. She is a disease I have. After ten years, I am finally realizing that I can’t cure it with other women"

Donna: My heart broke for Caleb a lot and I must admit I was getting pretty pissed at Olivia, she was giving out so many mixed signals to Caleb and then she would just go and break his heart all over again. I was worried when he went away for work as I thought that may have been the nail in the coffin but was glad that fate had other ideas

“It was a lie. I knew it was a lie, even as I said it. I’ve never loved anyone after you. I never will.”
I walk out.
Walk away.
No more fighting — not for her, or with her, or with myself.
I am so sad."

Willow: I hated Olivia at one point! "I choose him" - you are right it was a roller coaster of up and downs for poor Caleb, as it always is with these two:

“Leah-”
“No,” I say.
“I don’t want to talk about Leah.”
“Fine,” she says.
“Where’s Noah?” She looks away.
“Please stop asking me that.”
“Why?”
“Because it hurts to answer.” I consider her for a moment and nod. “You’re going to have to tell me eventually.”
“Eventually.” She sighs. “That word is so us, isn’t it? Eventually, you’ll tell me you’re faking your amnesia. Eventually, I’ll tell you that I’m pretending not to know you. Eventually, we’ll come back together, fall apart, come back together.”

Willow: Through the first part of the book I was wondering where Leah was. Then bam, everything she did after that kinda made up for her absence in the first part don’t you think? Lets talk about Noah - I was convinced before going into Thief that there was something not right about him, I thought no one is that perfect and although we heard a bit more about him, I was actually disappointed there wasn’t more.

Donna: Like you I thought that there was something missing with him, whether it was like a set up or something...he just seemed too sugary sweet with bows and flowers, but actually he was actually that nice, he had his own demons to deal with, but if I was him, knowing my future wife was in love with another man, I couldn't have done it. Their marriage was doomed from the start especially when the other factors were thrown into the mix. My heart did break for Olivia in the epilogue, having been there and done that...but luckily for me, my outcome was so different, I was just so sad that mother nature took away that HEA for her.

Willow: Yes the ending. As you know I'm a cold hearted bitch, it takes a lot for me to cry at a book, and I did cry at Thief. It was like every time Tarryn gave us something good it was bitter sweet because she took something else away. In true Tarryn style it was heartbreaking and messy!

Donna: This book was extremely emotional for me, but we needed to get inside Caleb's head and Tarryn did it brilliantly. We got so many questions answered which we soooo needed. After getting these answers it just made me angry, if only they talked...then all this heart break could have been avoided, but then if they did talk we never would have got 3 amazing books...ying and yang and all that!!

Willow: Totally agree! I loved this book, I felt it was a good ending to the trilogy. The way it has been written with each book told from each of the three personalities (and even a bit from Noah) was genius. I loved the back and forth between past and present. It was easy to read and brought out a lot of emotions, hurt, anger, betrayal and hate, but also hope, longing and love - however f**ked up that love was. But most of all it felt real, ok maybe an extreme side of real, but there was no insta love, they had to work hard for it. In real life love isn't always hearts and flowers, sometimes it is messy and F**cked up and Tarryn has certainly written about that "alternative" side of love. For me this was an easy 5 star read.

Donna: I totally agree, love is never guaranteed and it is always a work in progress, you have to want it, nurture it, fight for it. It can be messy but if it was all hearts and flowers life would be incredibly boring. As you say, this is real life, maybe a bit extreme with Leah's shenanigans but very real none the less. I was glad they got a relative HEA in the end, despite the twist at the end, even though it was not the ending I would have liked. But, it was the ending that this trilogy deserved, it was never perfect, so a perfect ending would have done the book an injustice. With all that being said and having had time to reflect and digest and get my head round it, I will give it a 5 too, it deserves it!! Although that darn ending was just urgggghhhhhh, it needed to be done.

Special Excerpt from Thou Shalt Not by J.J Rossum.

At the end of Thief, Tarryn has the first chapter of the book Thou Shalt Not by J.J Rossum. The book is not released yet but the blog tour hosts are also sharing an excerpt from another chapter in the book. Each day part of this excerpt will be posted on a blog, so to read the whole excerpt you must visit each of the following blogs:

So we are kicking of the first part of the excerpt and here it is:

I packed, drove, and showered quickly so I could make the morning meeting on time. I wondered if April would be there now that she seemed close to being brought on as a full-time teacher. Hopefully she would be. I’d have to decide whether to sit next to her and breathe in her intoxicating floral scent or if I wanted to sit on the opposite side of the room so I could simply gaze. Or stare. Let’s face it — I would probably stare.

The room was half-full when I arrived with five minutes to spare. A few of the teachers looked up when I came in. Their faces registered surprise, clearly not expecting to see me back so soon. I got a few nods in my direction but no one spoke. Teachers aren’t usually morning people unless they’ve had their cup or two or six of coffee. Their silence made it evident that the liquid brown drug was not yet coursing through their bodies. Or that seeing me was a little awkward, considering the state I was in when they last saw me.

Don't forget to read the next part of the excerpt you'll need to visit Book Reader Chronicles tomorrow (11/4)

Cover Reveal & Giveaway ~ Catch Me by Claire Contreras

We are really looking forward to Claire Contreras' upcoming book, Catch Me.
Check out this cover!

Book Description:

In the past, I've always been given everything I've wanted, but nothing that I truly needed. I've experienced a lot of things in my twenty-five years, everything except the one thing I want. It's the one thing that can’t be bought. It can't even be taken, it has to be given. And nobody has ever given it to me, not really anyway.

Not until him.

Music is the center of both our lives, but as he found his place in it, I lost my way. He soared, while I spiraled down a destructive path.
I lost myself in more ways than I can count.

The ironic thing is that I didn’t realize how lost I was until he found me.

And now that he has, I have to wonder if he'll stay around long enough to catch me.

Teaser:

He never takes his eyes off of me as he crosses the street. He walks around a group of people, purposely stepping to my side. There’s no time for formal hellos in the middle of the street, and I’m glad for that because I don’t want to introduce him to my brother and do the whole shebang in a crowded street. My smile is fixed on my face as he approaches, also smiling at me, his eyes crinkling in mischief. When he brushes past me, he takes my hand and squeezes it slightly. It’s just a squeeze. Just. But it’s enough to get my heart pumping, my blood tingling, and my eyes widening as if I’ve been caught doing something wrong, which I know is ridiculous, but that’s how his touch makes me feel.

Catch Me is coming soon!

About the Author:

Claire Contreras graduated with her BA in Psychology from Florida International University. She lives in Miami, Florida with her husband, two little boys, and three dogs.

Her favorite past times are: daydreaming, writing, and reading.

She has been described as a random, sarcastic, crazy girl with no filter.

Life is short, and it’s more bitter than sweet, so she tries to smile as often as her face allows. She enjoys stories with happy endings, because life is full of way too many unhappy ones or ones that will scare the daylights out of her and have her looking over her shoulder at every turn. Like I said, she's very random.

Blog Tour ~ Review, Excerpt & Giveaway ~ Making Faces by Amy Harmon

Book Description:

Ambrose Young was beautiful. He was tall and muscular, with hair that touched his shoulders and eyes that burned right through you. The kind of beautiful that graced the covers of romance novels, and Fern Taylor would know. She'd been reading them since she was thirteen. But maybe because he was so beautiful he was never someone Fern thought she could have...until he wasn't beautiful anymore.

Making Faces is the story of a small town where five young men go off to war, and only one comes back. It is the story of loss. Collective loss, individual loss, loss of beauty, loss of life, loss of identity. It is the tale of one girl's love for a broken boy, and a wounded warrior's love for an unremarkable girl. This is a story of friendship that overcomes heartache, heroism that defies the common definitions, and a modern tale of Beauty and the Beast, where we discover that there is a little beauty and a little beast in all of us.

**ARC received for honest review**

“If God makes all our faces, did he laugh when he made me?
Does he make the legs that cannot walk and eyes that cannot see?
Does he curl the hair upon my head ‘til it rebels in wild defiance?
Does he close the ears of the deaf man to make him more reliant?
Is the way I look coincidence or just a twist of fate?
If he made me this way, is it okay, to blame him for the things I hate?
For the flaws that seem to worsen every time I see a mirror,
For the ugliness I see in me, for the loathing and the fear.
Does he sculpt us for his pleasure, for a reason I can’t see?
If God makes all our faces, did he laugh when he made me?”

This book is one truly amazing piece of writing. It hurt to read it, so bad, my head hurt, my heart ached, my eyes stung but I could not put it down. It was such a captivating read. Even though I could relate in so many ways, far more than I ever wished I could, despite the pain I felt when reading, I read it in one sitting. Nothing or no-one was going to get in the way. I was totally gone, zoned out into a world of Fern, Ambrose and my little Bailey.

I really don’t know where to start…I don’t want to waffle but I want to do this book justice. I could probably write for hours about this book, but then it would put you all off!! So I will give you the basics.

This is a book that will have you thinking, thinking a lot! It will make you question how you see yourself and those around you. Are we all really that shallow that we only judge people on the way they look and their appearances. Do we only see the flaws and the disabilities rather than the person underneath? After all, the person is what is on the inside, not the body that houses that person, the body is just a vessel that houses the heart and soul. This book is deep, meaningful, thought provoking and extremely poignant and one book that will stay with me for a very long time. As we say as readers, never judge a book by its cover, do we apply the same mantra to those people that are around us every day? Even good looking people can be horrible and mean and the “ugliest” person can be a complete diamond, you never know what you have in front of you, until you look inside.

Fern, she is such a beautiful person inside and out, but she doesn’t see it that way. All she sees are the “uglies,” she doesn’t have perfect hair or the perfect features or the perfect body but she has a perfect heart and soul. Her friends get all the guys, but she just skulks in the back ground. She has had this crush on Ambrose, since he squashed a spider when they were kids, but Ambrose is the epitome of the “perfect boy.” He is idolised, put on a pedestal, he is brilliant at everything he does, the girls fight over him, what chance does she really have? Fern doesn’t see Ambrose as the rest of the world do, she fell in love with the inside, not the shell, she fell in love with him even more when she was trying to help her friend nab him. They decided to write little notes to each other, but her friend, not being the “articulate” one asked Fern to write the notes for her. Little by little each note revealed more and more about each other, he was intelligent, he was romantic, he was loving, he was so much more than what the world saw on the outside and with every note passed, Fern fell even more in love. It didn’t take Ambrose long to realise that the person behind the words were not one of the same and when he did find out, he was not happy.

“…Fern’s heart would flutter and breaths grew short with every barrier crossed, every piece of metaphorical clothing discarded.

Lost or Alone?

Ambrose said alone, and Fern responded, “I would much rather be lost with you than alone without you, so I choose lost with a caveat.” Ambrose responded, “No caveats,” to which Fern replied, “Then lost, because alone feels permanent, and lost can be found.”

Ambrose was leading the “perfect” life, but after an event happens, he realises that he doesn’t want this perfect life anymore, he wants to make a difference. He decides to enlist and takes his four best friends with him, little does he realise that this will be his biggest ever regret. What will happen when Ambrose isn’t perfect anymore? What will happen when he has no friends? What will happen when nobody likes him? How perfect will Ambrose be then?

“What scares you the most son?”

“Not a damn thing, Dad. I used to be afraid of going to hell. But now that I’m here, hell doesn’t seem so bad.”

Fern grew up with her cousin Bailey, they were born at the same time, except Bailey became ill, he has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, he knew that his life time was limited and he lived life to his max. Fern was Bailey’s right hand person or wing woman. They were always together. He was limited in what he could do and always thought he could do more, but he had a heart of gold. These two were the closest of friends, despite being related. They were always together and were inseparable. I loved Bailey! His dad was the wrestling coach, Ambrose was their star wrestler, Bailey had Ambrose on the wrestling pedestal, after all he was “Hercules.” Although Bailey couldn’t wrestle he was part of the team, being super intelligent he was their statistician and the team loved him. He had a sense of belonging despite his disabilities. We could all learn a lot from Bailey, his outlook on life was astounding, despite the crap hand that he had been dealt. He was a truly inspirational character and one that you could not help but fall in love with. It is rare that you get that connection with a supporting character.

“A big part of the reason that Bailey is so special is because life has sculpted him into something amazing…maybe not on the outside, but on the inside. On the inside, Bailey looks like Michelangelo’s David. And when I look at him, and when you look at him, that’s what we see.”

Even despite his ailing health and his increasing inability to even do the simplest things, he never lost his sense of humour.

“…Maybe then I could get some action. Problem is, how am I going to get a handful of tit if I can’t lift my arms?”

I can’t express enough how much I loved Bailey, just read about him, listen to his wise words he is such a beautiful person inside and out.

“I have no pride left, Ambrose!” Bailey said. “No pride. But it was my pride or my life. I had to choose. So do you…”

As you can see, I highlighted the hell out of this book. This book is beautifully written, many a verse or one line sets itself apart from the rest and you find yourself sitting back, reflecting and can’t help but ponder the meaning or you find yourself applying it to your own situations. Deeply meaningful and extremely thought provoking you cannot help but be drawn into these characters lives. Such inspiring writing, this books makes you want to be a better person, think more about your actions rather than dealing with the reactions. Totally and utterly brilliant.

“Ambrose, Fern already sees who you really are. That’s why she loves you.”

I have never been disappointed with an Amy Harmon book, she is a truly gifted writer. This author has now firmly imprinted herself on my “auto download” list. I really cannot wait to see what comes next.

“It always amazes me how people are placed in our lives at exactly the right times. That’s how God works, that’s how he takes care of his children. He gave Bailey Fern. And now Fern needs her own angel.”

Excerpt:

He didn’t know how to make her understand that she was so much more than just pretty. So he leaned forward and pressed his mouth to hers. Very carefully. Not like the other night when he’d been scared and impulsive, and smacked her head against the wall in his attempt to kiss her. He kissed her now to tell her how he felt. He pulled away almost immediately, not giving himself a chance to linger and lose his head. He wanted to show her he valued her, not that he wanted to rip her clothes off. And he wasn’t sure when it came right down to it that she wanted to be kissed by an ugly SOB. She was the kind of girl that would kiss him because she didn’t want to hurt his feelings. The thought filled him with despair.

She let out a frustrated sigh and sat up, running her hands through her hair. It flowed through her fingers and down her back, and he wished he could bury his own hands in it, bury his face in the heavy locks and breathe her in. But he’d obviously upset her.

“I’m sorry, Fern. I shouldn’t have done that.”

“Why?” she snapped, startling him enough that he winced. “Why are you sorry?”

“Because you’re upset.”

“I’m upset because you pulled away! You’re so careful. And it’s frustrating!”

Ambrose was taken back by her honesty, and he smiled, instantly flattered. But the smile faded as he tried to explain himself.

“You’re so small, Fern. Delicate. And all of this is new to you. I’m afraid I’m going to come on too strong. And if I break you or hurt you, I won’t survive that, Fern. I won’t survive it.” That thought was worse than walking away from her and he shuddered inwardly. He wouldn’t survive it. He had already hurt too many. Lost too many.

Fern knelt in front of him, and her chin wobbled and her eyes were wide with emotion. Her voice was adamant as she held his face between her hands, and when he tried to pull away so she wouldn’t feel his scars, she hung on, forcing his gaze.

“Ambrose Young! I have waited my whole life for you to want me. If you don’t hold me tight I won’t believe you mean it, and that’s worse than never being held at all. You better make me believe you mean it, Ambrose, or you will most definitely break me.”

“I don’t want to hurt you, Fern,” he whispered hoarsely.

“Then don’t,” she whispered back, trusting him. But there were lots of ways to cause pain. And Ambrose knew he was capable of hurting her in a thousand ways.

Ambrose stopped trying to pull his face away, surrendering to the way it felt to be touched. He hadn’t allowed anyone to touch him for a long time. Her hands were small, like the rest of her, but the emotions they stirred in him were enormous, gigantic, all-consuming. She made him shake, made him quake inside, vibrate like the tracks under an on-coming train.

Her hands left his face and traveled down the sides of his neck. One side smooth, the other riddled with divots and scars and rippled where the skin had been damaged. She didn’t pull away, but felt each mark, memorized each wound. And then she leaned forward and pressed her lips to his neck, just below his jaw. And then again on the other side, on the side that bore no scars, letting him know that the kiss wasn’t about sympathy but desire. It was a caress. And his control broke.

Friday Frights ~ PNR Review ~ Her Vampire Husband by Michele Hauf

Reviewed by Shirley ~ 4.5 Stars

I just loved this book. It is sexy, erotic and made me laugh, especially with Blu’s antics and her fashion statements.

Our Blu is a rare werewolf female, because of an abusive and cruel father, Amadus she has turned herself into a very smart person and has a very smart mouth to go with it. But, you have just got to love her, undeniably though she is also one very lovely female.

The council of all supernatural species has decided that a marriage between the Werewolves and the Vampire Clans would help to forge peace between these two warring nations. Our Vampire, Creed, is a very rich and handsome vampire Lord, elder and leader of the Nova tribe who has agreed to the arranged marriage to Blu. With both of them going into this marriage with preconceived ideas you could say it was very bumpy to begin with, but when Creed first glimpsed his bride coming up the aisle to him some of those ideas went straight out the door.

“She is gorgeous.

Her body is killer.

And those lips and eyes!

Not to mention the breasts he could suckle at for hours.

But whats with the hair?”

It was done.

Marriage contract signed.

Getting to know each other in Creeds mansion is interesting to say the least but Creed couldn’t help himself, by god, she was spectacular.

“Before last night he’d thought it impossible to consider kissing a werewolf, let alone get a hard-on from looking at her body. Yet right now he sported some serious wood from the visuals she broadcast. What was wrong with him?”

And Blu is wondering to herself that it couldn’t hurt to do a bit of flirting with her husband, could be interesting, but could she resist him? He was definitely good to look at hmmm. But they do get together eventually and by god do they just.

“Tonight he would tame the wolf. “Yes,” she gasped. “Harder,” stroking the inner shaft of her clit that controlled her pleasure. The heat of her drove him mad. She wanted so desperately. She needed. And her lack of fear, of discretion enamoured him. “Faster, please.” “Right there, Oh my god.”

But as with every relationship, there are always the ones against it. An ex fiancĂ© of Blu’s causes trouble and on the other side the Vampires are not happy with the marriage. Life is getting very difficult for Blu and Creed. Betrayal and sacrifice all in the name of peace. With their growing love and trust for each other, can they survive?

Ms Hauf, a really great and enjoyable read, I really loved Blu. I will certainly look out for more books of yours, you have made me a big fan.
