Friday Frights ~ PNR Review ~ Scent of a Vampire (The Evolved 1) by Jude Stephens @judestephens

Reviewed by Shirley ~ 5 Stars

This is a story I very much enjoyed. It is so erotic, sexy and witty as well. It has three main characters:-

Olivia, a physiotherapy nurse

Roberto a hotel owner, who happens to be a vampire

and Alexander also a hotel and casino owner, who also happens to be a vampire

The book is set in Atlantic City.

Olivia and her best friend Janel came to the city to have an all out girlie weekend, let your hair down and party, oh and Janel was hoping for some great sex along the way!!

Olivia is the more introverted of the two, coming out of a broken marriage she has just come along more for a break than anything and to spend some time with her friend. She has also been having strange feelings and feels that she can almost smell death, so she feels that the break will do her good. Whilst they were booking into the hotel, that is when all the fun starts.

Firstly, Olivia bumps into Alex, Alexander a 6 foot, blonde, green eyed, very sexy, very handsome man and then across the foyer his companion Roberto over 6 foot, black haired, blue eyed and oh so sexual looking man with a dangerous aura about him…phew!!

The friends get talking to these men and accept their invitation to dinner and whilst at dinner all hell lets loose and the men whisk the women away. When outside the hotel, Alex takes Olivia into an embrace and kisses her deeply and Olivia finds herself acting totally out of character, almost jumping the mans bones in public until cold water is poured over them, literally!!

“Oh my God, what was I doing?”

Olivia thought to herself, feeling highly embarrassed!!

Roberto takes the girls back to his penthouse suite giving the girls separate bedrooms. Whilst showing Olivia hers, she looks at him, feeling totally turned on. Lust oozes out of him and his kiss was so hot and hard Olivia totally flipped out and swung her legs around his waist.

“Ohhh my God, that feels so good.” She moaned when his erection rubbed against her throbbing clit through the thin cotton of her panties.

Just as it was starting to get interesting her friend Janel interrupts them and Roberto departs.Olivia is thinking to herself what the hell is wrong with me. Two men she has virtually given herself to on the same night.

More adventure comes along all the while this attraction between Roberto and Olivia is getting stronger and stronger, smoking in fact!!

“He pulled my jeans down to the huge bulge in his jeans “You make me so hot and hard. I want to be inside you.”

And Olivia “My God Roberto, I feel out of control, I need you inside me now”

The adventure goes on and the steamy oh so erotic attraction between Roberto and Olivia is dynamite, but in the mix is Alex wanting more from Olivia.

He said in a husky voice “but be warned, baby. I am NOT giving up on us, I want you. My body wants you so badly, just the sight of you makes my blood boil and my cock hard.”

With Olivia’s life getting very complicated and finding out about herself along the way this is really a very good read and could even get you very HOT HOT HOT.

But is everything with Olivia as it seems?? You will just have to read and find out! I would like to say a lot more about this book, but it would really give too much away. Therefore, it is up to you, the reader to download and read, you will not be disappointed!!

Jude Stephens, really fantastic book. Loved all of it, can’t wait to read more, a definite 5* in my book.

Review ~ Bring Me Home (Shattered Hearts 3) by Cassia Leo @AuthorCassiaLeo

Reviewed by Donna ~ 5 Stars

“Love is not black and white. It’s not even gray. Love is every shade of colour in the spectrum, changing with every ray of light given and stolen. Sometimes you forget how much you love someone, until you realise their smile is like a spotlight shined on your heart.”

This is the third in the series so you must have read Relentless and Pieces of You first. This is a fantastic series and Bring Me Home is the conclusion. We have our favourite characters, Claire, Adam and Chris. Claire was left having to choose who she wanted to end up with, would it be Adam or Chris. I was always Team Adam, deep down I felt I knew the way that this story was going to go and I wasn’t going to like it. However, I will say that no matter what team you were/are on, you will love this conclusion. Everybody got their happy ever after no matter who they were, you may like it, you may not, but you should!!

The one thing that cannot be criticized is Cassia Leo’s writing, all of these books have been emotional, compassionate and extremely heart felt. You feel the emotion oozing off the page and you cannot help but let your emotions get the better of you. A lot of tears were spilled reading this book.

“If there’s one thing I’ve learned recently, it’s that sometimes letting someone go is the ultimate act of love.”

I will not say who she ends up with as this will spoil it for you but you need to read to experience the emotions that you will be going through and see that despite the choices that everyone had to make they were in fact the right choices for them.

“It’s not our mistakes that define us. It’s the lessons that we learn that show our true character.”

Chris and Claire are still trying to push through for access to their daughter. Adam is pursuing his dreams of surfing and Chris is still riding waves of his own in the music industry. Claire has some choices and I am glad to say that she makes them early on in the book so you do get put out of your misery very early. Some may say that this was good, others bad as the suspense was taken away, but once you read the whole story you are glad that it was done that way.

It does have an amazing epilogue!! I loved it!! I am sorry that I have to keep this review so brief but I really cannot spoil this one and too many comments will just give the game away. So I will end it, how the book ended, so many fabulous one liners in this book.

“Because I love you more than this.” And by “this” he means everything.

Review ~ Stalk Me (Keatyn Chronicles 1) by Jillian Dodd

Reviewed by Donna ~ 4 Stars

“Damn Disney, and all their happily-ever-after, unrealistic, bullshit stories.”

This is my first Jillian Dodd book and so I was going into the unknown not knowing what to expect. I have loved reliving my youth through teen stories so I knew that this would be one of those reads where I could drift back to my school years, which incidentally were far from pretty to a life of teen loves, romance, melodramas and all that goes with it and I was not disappointed!

Firstly I would just like to say I love Jillian’s style of writing, it is fun and it is flirty and it pulls you in, you cannot help but immerse yourself into Keatyn’s life and feel like you are living it with her. Whilst I was reading this, it sort of reminded me of a programme I used to watch when I was a teenager….many moons ago called Beverley Hills 90210. I had a soft spot for Jason Priestly!! Don’t judge me!! And I couldn’t stand Shannen Doherty!! (Bet you are all thinking…WHO??) Well I am sure there must be some old clips on YouTube!

Keatyn has a privileged life, her mother is a very talented actress called Abby Johnston and her father Tommy Stevens is a Hollywood legend. She has wardrobes full of designer clothes and shoes, she is Miss Popular at school, boys are queuing up to be her boyfriend and of course all this brings with it jealousy and contempt. When she was little, Keatyn had written what she perceived to be the perfect “life script” she had written her own movie of how she wanted her life to pan out. Obviously, things always go off course, but Keatyn is adamant that if she tries hard enough she can get her life back on track so that she can fulfil her ideal dream life.

Following Keatyn’s life at school there is a lot of drama thrown in, arguments, boy trouble and a stalker issue. This book though is more about Keatyn finding herself, it is through all the trials and tribulations of trying to be Miss Popular that she realises that actually it is not all it is cracked up to be and perhaps, just this once she needs to change. She does not like the person that she is becoming and doesn’t want to morph into the bitchy friends that she has gained whilst at school.

Eventually the stalker issue forces her life course to take a dramatic turn and maybe this is the change that she needs to find herself and become that person that she has always deep down wanted to be.

This book is full of hot boys too so you have some drool worthy dudes to get hot over, firstly I will mention Sanders, he is your typical high school popular kid, on the outside, he was sweet and charming but you always felt that he was hiding something, is he all what he seems?

After agreeing to breakup and remain firm friends Sander and Keatyn cracked me up after Sander got the lead role in Grease - “Good. You know what though? I’ve never had a role where I got my heart broken. In Grease, Sandy breaks my heart. Do you mind if I use our breakup as practice? Like, I’ll act all devastated at school. I’ll be all dreary and full of angst.”

Then comes the “Cushman” Mr Cocky!! He was good looking and he knew it, used it to his advantage and then some, his chat up lines were hilarious but you couldn’t help but fall in love with him. He was super cute! He also had a huge soft spot for Keatyn.

“You’re single. I’m single. Let’s mingle.”

Then we have Brooklyn, typical surfer dude but he was also very deep and meaningful at times. He would recite Keats for his Keats and this did make him fairly loveable, but he was so laid back her was virtually horizontal and I always felt that he was holding back. He was Keatyn’s first true love and she sort of hero worships him but I feel that he is just leading her on. He has his ambitions and their lifestyles are so different I think he feels he would never fit in. He feels that Keatyn is too “material” and this does not fit in with his aspirations.

“A thing of beauty is a joy forever. It’s Keats for my Keats.”

I will save the best till last….sigh!! Aiden Arrington “The God of All Hotties” yes he really is that hot…my heart melted as did my brain. His nickname for Keatyn was super cute and I feel that he has a very real connection with his “Boots,” I can see them as soul mates, lovers and hopefully married with lots of babies. I can’t wait to see where their relationship takes us going forward. I really hope they get together as I can see some hot, hot, hot panty melting scenes between these two. I just fell hopelessly and deeply in love with this guy…he really is that dreamy! We have 6 books though so I am sure that a lot is going to happen inbetween, but I am keeping my fingers crossed for these two.

“He should be down on his knees begging me to marry him and have his little Hottie babies.”

Keatyn…what can I say about the star of this book, well she can be frustrating, sometimes I wanted to give her a slap, but you felt her inner turmoil, you could see she was just trying to conform to the “in crowd” and you ended up cheering her on to do what was right for herself. She has some serious problems going on at the moment and that is a lot for anyone to deal with and I can’t wait to see her develop going forward.

“I think it was Betsey Johnson that said women dress for other women. If we dressed for men, we’d all run around naked.”

Jillian Dodd, I absolutely loved this book, I cannot wait for the next and the next and the next. I am itching to see how Keatyn changes and grows, this is really going to be one of those series that every teenager should read, they will be able to associate with Keatyn’s life so much and would probably pick up some amazing tips along the way. Jillian really has managed to encapsulate the teen drama and all that goes with growing up, I cannot wait to see Keatyn’s own metamorphisis.

Stalk Me is currently free at the moment, so what are you waiting for? Go grab it.

4. Belief in something; agreement

I was worried going into this, just a teensy, weensy bit…after all Fading was absolutely brilliant, how could EK Blair match it or even top it? How could you also tell the same story without spoiling the original? I needn’t have worried. Freeing is so much more than just a rehash of Fading, it is it’s own unique story and one, once again amazingly told by EK Blair.

“It isn’t about deserving; it’s about accepting. None of us deserve anything. Everything we have is a gift, and you have to learn to simply accept what God gives you.”

We all know that Jase was the best friend of Candace and he was gay, he was also in a relationship with Mark and we all know the relationship that he had with Candace. Well this book takes this all on to the next level and then some! We also get a look at Jase’s background and his parents. This is a book about a boy that just wants to be loved and accepted. He wants to be able to feel happy in his own skin, he wants to be happy with his life choices and not feel dirty or strange or abnormal or even worse abhorrent. This is Jase’s story!

EK Blair is an amazing writer, her stories captivate you from the very beginning, her writing is fluid and she creates characters that you cannot help but love and feel for. I had recently expanded my reading material to M/M and have read some amazing books, so the fact that this was about Jase and Mark was not intimidating at all, I couldn’t wait to get started.

“My pieces feel like they are stripped bare.” I catch his eyes when I look back up and tell him, “I’m not sure I even have enough of them.”

“Maybe I have what you’re missing. But if you keep holding back, you’ll never find out. You’ll never know how well we can fit together if you don’t try”

I fell in love with Jase in Fading, he was such a pillar of strength to Candace and the relationship that those two shared was so endearing, they were truly soul mates. He was selfless, loveable, dependable just a total amazing guy. Jase’s problems very much stem from himself, he is having a hard time dealing with the fact that he is gay, whilst he has accepted it somewhat, he still hasn’t “come out” to his parents, he continues with his “non-committal” relationships or one night stands, as he feels that if they are one off’s they don’t really mean anything. After his sisters death, he shoulders the responsibility of being the only child left of his parents, with that comes added pressure and deemed responsibilities, but deep down he knows that they would never accept him for who he is, hence his reluctance to tell them the truth. The way he talks to his sister for guidance is heart breaking. He knows that if she were alive, she would tell him what to do, she would accept him, he misses her, a lot!

Mark, such a loveable character, he has been through what Jase is going through, he handles him with kid gloves, he is a lot more understanding than most would be and certainly more forgiving. Jase tries to push him away in his own way, but Mark is steadfast, after some apologies and sincerity, he understands and he helps Jase, he guides Jase and most of all he centres him. His parents are totally amazing and the way that they also help Jase was brilliant to read. They are just what Jase needs and wants. The chat with Mark’s dad on the roof was brilliant! Mark gently makes Jase understand that he deserves love, to love himself and most of all he can give love back.

“No doubts. No questions. He’s freed me in a way I didn’t think was possible. I didn’t know I could open myself up this way to another man and be so exposed. But he doesn’t judge. He has only ever given me the benefit of the doubt, letting me stumble at my own pace. And even though I am scared shitless about meeting his family, I want to because there isn’t anyone else I want to be with. He’s it.”

This book was unputdownable for me, it was a tub of pringles…once I popped I couldn’t stop! I devoured it, I was captivated by Jase’s story, I didn’t want it to stop and I didn’t want it to end. These two books have left their mark on my heart and memory, they are one I will not forget and I cannot wait to see what this author has up her sleeve next! Whatever it is, you can be sure it will be well written!!

Alternative Point of View:
Ryan Watches Candace at Jase’s Apartment

Running my hand through my hair, I knock on Jase’s door.

“Hey,” he says when he answers.

 “Hey, man. You guys ready?”

“Mark is still at Aiden’s place going over some of the new songs.”

“How’s that been going,” I ask as I sit down on the couch and flip on the TV.
“You wanna beer?” he asks, distracted, from the kitchen and as soon as I say, “Yeah,” I turn my attention to his front door when I hear it opening.

Her.

She looks shocked to see me sitting here. God, what is it about this girl that draws every piece of me in. I can’t take my eyes off of her. Wet hair piled on top of her head, no make-up, and wearing sweats. Definitely not what I normally go for, but nothing about this feeling in my chest is normal. She’s beautiful.

“Hey, is everything all right?” Jase asks her, and she finally peels her eyes away from me, and the bastard inside wishes he would’ve just kept his mouth shut.

She walks over to the chair while stammering, “Umm, yeah . . . I mean, no.”

“What’s that mean?” he questions as she flops down, clearly aggravated, and I wonder what happened between now and when I saw her this morning at her work.

“Nothing, never mind,” she sighs softly.

Leaning forward, I watch her as her attention is fixed on the TV. She’s small and petite and suddenly my mind fucks with me again as I get a flash of that night. That girl. That tiny girl.

“You okay?” I ask her. I speak more for the sake of ridding my mind of the games my head is trying to play on me. I know it’s not her. What are the chances?

“I don’t want to talk about it,” she answers without ever shifting her eyes from the TV, oblivious to the affect she’s having on me. She’s gonna be a hard one to crack.
