“Maybe I’ll stop looking for real, now that I’ve found Infinity.”

It is no secret I am a huge Amy Harmon fan, every single book that Amy has written has left a memorable mark in my heart and head. She is so extremely talented with words that when you are reading it feels like you are watching a movie, you can picture the story, you live and breathe the story, you are in the story. The characters are so believable and real they become your friends, you walk their life with them, you embrace their strengths and weaknesses, you champion their opportunities and you want to extinguish their threats. This story is no different.

A modern day adaptation of Bonnie and Clyde but without the crime spree…this book is about two people who have their flaws, meeting in the most bizarre of circumstances and then embarking on a road trip of a life time…a trip that neither will forget and will leave them tied to each other for Infinity.

“We’re Bonnie and Clyde! Wanted and unwanted. Caged and cornered. We’re lost and we’re alone. We’re a big, tangled mess. We’re a shot in the dark. We’re two people who have nowhere else, no one else, and yet, suddenly that feels like enough for me! I’m sorry if it’s not enough for you.”

Bonnie Rae Shelby was a child who won a talent show that catapulted her to the top generating unwanted fame and fortune. Having an over bearing Grandma as a manager that has let the trappings of fame and wealth cloud her better judgement, Bonnie has finally had enough, coming off a long tour Bonnie wants it all to end, literally. The fame and fortune mean nothing to Bonnie, the one thing that she treasured the most she has already lost, so there is nothing left to live for, she just wants to die, but does she really?

Finn Clyde as the blurb states is a nobody. He’s broken. He’s brilliant. He’s impossibly cynical and all he wants is a chance at life. His past has left its mark, being in the wrong place at the wrong time has never been more devastating or damaging but he wants to move on, he needs to move on. The one stable in his life is his love of numbers, he is a mathematical genius, his numbers always get him through, they are his crutch and the way they are such an integral and important part of his life is enlightening.

“I believe in numbers. The ones you can see and the ones you can’t. The real and the imaginary, the rational and the irrational, and every point on lines that go on forever. Numbers have never let me down. They don’t waffle. They don’t lie. They don’t pretend to be what they’re not. They’re timeless.”

On a bridge at the dead of night Bonnie and Clyde meet for the first time, trusting each other, these two lost souls embark on a road trip of a life time. A road trip that will change them forever, affecting those around them, both good and bad, a journey showered in compassion, love and honesty, a journey not only in distance but a journey of the heart and soul, a journey of life. These two become one, Infinity + One.

I would love to go into details about this story, I could waffle on forever, I have highlighted so much but to do so would be a crime, this is one of those books that needs to be read, be devoured, inhaled, lived and breathed. Once you start you will be sucked into this story and it won’t let you go till the very end. Two broken characters, but together they become whole, a voyage of discovery, not only of who they are, but what they want from life. I believe that everyone deserves a second chance and none more so than Finn, they bring the best out in each other, they are soul mates, they understand each other, they complement each other, they are the ying and the yang, together they are Infinity + One.

“I don’t want to be without you, Bonnie! Don’t you get that? I am in love with you! I’ve known you for one week. And I’m in love with you! Crazy, drive-off-a-cliff-if-you-asked-me-to, in love with you. But I don’t want to drive off a cliff! I want to live with you! Do you want that? Or do you still think about jumping off bridges and going down in a hail of bullets?”

Amy Harmon’s characters are always one of a kind, I don’t know how she does it, but they are so individual, so unique, yet so normal. Her stories are pure but her plots are intricate and will have you page turning and guessing from the start, her prose will keep you glued to the pages but will whisk you away on a journey, emotional, heart-warming, thought provoking but most of all you will “feel,” and I love a book that makes me feel.

I was laughing and crying, I was sad and happy, a plethora of emotions running riot in a space of a few hours. I was championing them from the start, I loved the snippets of history that are littered throughout this book, somehow Amy always manages to educate you while you are reading, yet you don’t realise she is doing it. I cannot convey how much I loved this book, I feel that this is the best one yet but Making Faces will always have a special place in my heart.

“And that was the biggest paradox of all.”

Amy I applaud you yet again on another fantastic story, such a truly talented and gifted writer. Books that you will want to read again and again, books that leave that indelible mark on you and books that will have me 1clicking whatever you write. The song in the book sums it up beautifully!

“I cannot describe
Or explain the speed of light
Or what makes thunder roll across the sky
And I could never theorize about the universe’s size
Or explain why some men live and some men die

I can’t even guess
I would never profess
To know why you are here with me
And I cannot comprehend
How numbers have no end
The things you understand, I can’t conceive

Infinity + One
Is still infinity.
And no matter how I try
I’m bound by gravity.
But the things I thought I knew
Changed the minute I met you.
It seems I’m weightless
And I’m endless after all.

Weightless and endless.
Timeless and restless.
So light that I’ll never fall.
Weightless and endless.
Hopelessly breathless.
I guess I knew nothing at all.”

Book Description:

For Luisa Chavez, a twenty-three year old former beauty queen, a better life has always been just out of her reach. Sure, she’s had men at her feet since she was a young teenager but she’s never had the one thing she’s craved – security. Having grown up in near poverty, her waitressing job in Cabo San Lucas can barely let her take care of herself, let alone her ailing parents. Every day is another unwanted advance, every day is a struggle to survive.

When Salvador Reyes, the depraved leader of a major Mexican cartel, takes an interest in her, Luisa is presented with an opportunity she can’t afford to pass up. She’ll become Salvador’s wife and exchange her freedom and body for a life of riches – riches she can bestow upon her deserving parents. But Luisa quickly finds out that even the finest wines and jewels can’t undo the ugliness in her marriage, nor the never-ending violence that threatens her every move.

Soon, Luisa is looking for an escape, a way out of the carefully controlled life she’s leading. She finally gets her wish in the worst way possible.

As it is, being the wife of Salvador makes her an ideal target for rival cartels and there’s one particular man who needs Luisa as part of his cartel’s expansion. One particular man whose quest for power has destroyed lives, slit throats and gotten him out of an American prison. One particular man who will stop at nothing until he gets what he wants.

That man is Javier Bernal. And he wants Luisa. He wants to take her, keep her, ruin her.

Unless she ruins him first.

Excerpt:

(unedited, subject to change before publication)

It was a picture of a woman in white strapless wedding dress, very fluffy and extravagant from the waist down. Her hands were clasped demurely at her front, her face caught in a nervous smile.

She was extremely beautiful but that was to be expected. The country’s most flagrant excuse for a drug kingpin would never marry anyone less than stunning and this woman, Luisa, fit the bill. But despite her body, with her round, perky tits and elegant neck, her long dark hair and classic face, there was another layer to her that immediately got me hard. It was this look in her eyes. They were so pure and soft, giving her radiance that seemed to leap off the page.

I wanted nothing more than to have her on her knees, have her fix those round, angelic eyes on me and watch as I pin her down and come right into them. I would take her purity and make her see the world for what it really was – a hot, sticky mess at the end of my dick.

“I bet she’d be a tight little fuck,” Este leered over my shoulder.

I shot him a disgusted look. “She’s not a whore, Este,” I chided him.

“Not to you,” he said, as I looked at the next picture of her, now with Salvador at her side.

“I mean it,” I said, my eyes drawn to her again and again. “No one is touching her. Not you, not Franco.”

“I give you my promise,” Este said. “But Franco can barely control himself around the whores.”

“No one is touching her,” I repeated. “She will be our hostage. She is collateral. No one is laying a hand on her.”

“Except for you, I assume.”

She almost seemed too good to even touch. I couldn’t wait to break her. “She is very valuable,” I admitted.

I flipped through a couple of more photographs and grew harder at each one. I wished Este would just fucking leave so I could deal with it. I almost wished Laura was still alive so I could flip her over and come all over her back. I never fucked the women around here, but that didn’t mean I didn’t use them when I needed to.

“You know,” Este said, his lazy voice starting to grate me. “If Martin had been there close enough to spy on them, close enough to photograph, why didn’t you just get him to put a bullet in Salvador’s head? Especially if Martin was going to die anyway.”

I eyed him warily, disappointed that he could be so rash. “Because life is a game and we’re all just trading cards. We play the right hand to get ahead.” I studied the smiling, ignorant face of Sal as he stared at his bride. “Death stops the game. It’s too final, too inflexible. Death is viciously stubborn.”

When Este didn’t say anything I looked up to see a dull gleam in his eyes. I sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose, annoyed at his ineptitude. “What good would killing Salvador do? Right? David Guirez or whoever, anyone, someone, they would step in and take over faster than you can shit after your coffee and nothing will have changed. Look at Travis Raines. The moment he died, I was able to slither on through to the top, to right here, right now.”

“Only because you killed Travis,” he noted. “More or less.”

“We killed Travis,” I corrected him. “Anyway, the point is that the dead make lousy deals. If we want the shipping lane, we have to force him to give it to us. Killing him does nothing. Taking his new bride, now that will do something.”

“You sound so sure,” Este said walking around the desk.

“I have no reason not to be sure,” I said. “They are newlyweds. He needs her, he wants her. We will get her soon, before he gets bored of her cherry ass. Sal has pride. We all do. It is our weakness. I know that enough about myself to know it about others.”

He smoothed his hand over the stubble on his chin and gave me a smooth nod. “All right.”

I stared at a photo of them at the altar, a lavish outdoor ceremony. He was gazing at her with that pride I was talking about. And she was staring at him with a look that was all too familiar to me.

“She doesn’t love him, though,” I commented, almost to myself.

“How can you tell?” he said, taking a step closer and peering at the photos again.

I swallowed uneasily and then shrugged it off. “I just can. She doesn’t.”

“So is she marrying him for money then?”

I took the papers and sorted them until they were neat and evenly stacked before slipping them back into the envelope. “Probably. Does it matter?”

“No. So when do we act?”

“Soon,” I said, putting the envelope in the first drawer. I knew I’d be taking it out again after he left.

Friday Frights ~ PNR Reviews ~ A Mate for the Beta (Grey Wolf Pack Book 1) by E.A. Price

Reviewed by Shirley ~ 4 Stars

This is a great first book to this new series. I loved it. The book starts off with a witch disappearing from a town called Rose; the town consists of shifters, humans and witches.

The romance in this book is between the local Sheriff, a shifter called Alec Hart, the beta of the local pack who’s Alphas name is Adam Grey, and a young witch called Liv Briars, the niece of the head witch of the local coven whose name is Emerald.

On Liv’s part she has been an admiring Alec from afar for a good part of a year, staying out of his way as she felt a bit in wonder of him.

Alec hadn't noticed Liv at all because of her behaviour, but while investigating the disappearance of Iris he became aware of an enticing aroma which he couldn't get out of his mind. Not knowing it belonged to Liv. He then caught the smell again, but in a different location, but this time it was stronger. He had to find out who it belonged to, and then he saw her…

“His woman. Their mate.”

A tiny curvy blonde with large curls reaching her shoulders, with sparkling sapphire blue eyes.

“God, but she truly was an angel.”

and this was the first time Liv had actually seen Alec up close, eyes more beautiful than she thought, broad shoulders, wide chest and full of muscle with slightly long light brown hair and at 6ft he was a sight to behold. Attraction was strong between these two but not clear sailing, although it didn't stop Alec from having very erotic dreams at night of Liv. It was very much a bit of a dance between them as both were uncertain about the way they felt about each other, but the time did come when Alec did finally pin her down and he said…

“You are my mate, the other half of my heart. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, showing you how much you mean to me. Showing you how much I love you. You're mine and I'm yours.”

To see how this beautiful romance blossoms you must read this book. I promise you, you will love it. I can see a great new series here.

“My love life was nothing more than a series of unfortunate events – unfortunate, lousy, pathetic events. Was I that much of a loser?”

This is the book that we lovers of the Port Fare series have been waiting for, finally it was “Booker Time” and it didn’t disappoint. I fell in love with all the characters of this series in Unlovable (Book One) and while that book remains my favourite of this series, this one comes a close second.

Booker has been one of the main characters throughout this series, his loyalty to his friend’s just one of his many admirable traits and this never wavers in this instalment, if anything it intensifies. We know that his past is more like a horror story, yet despite everything he has been through, he has come through it, despite the flash backs, the panic attacks and the nightmares, Booker will always be Booker. His limits though are truly tested in this instalment; will he be strong enough to come out the other side? Will his past interfere with his future; can he really move on from the atrocities that he has already endured or will they be the one thing that forever holds him back? Can he love and be loved? Will this be just what he needs?

In book one we were treated to Maggie and Seth’s story, book two was Cole and Lilah’s and now is the turn of Booker and Tess. You may remember Tess, she was the woman working at the hospital that always fainted when she saw blood…she has good reason. Like Booker her past is tainted, she has been through A LOT, her past is fed to us slowly throughout the book as flash backs, painful reminders of the past that she left behind, the woman she left behind and she tries valiantly to be the woman that she wants to be throughout this book. What she had endured in her past was truly awful and one that will have permanent reminders for the rest of her life. I would love to say what I think but you need to read the story; all I can say is karma is a bitch.

Tess originally comes across as this meek, timid, petrified woman, who is scared of her own shadow. Slowly throughout this book with all the gangs’ help we slowly see Tess change to the woman she once was. She will always have the scars and the nightmares, but slowly but surely you finally see her try to take charge of her life and that is not always easy when after four years her past unfortunately finally catches up with her.

“No more pain. No more Garen.”
Tess’s past has a big impact on her and Booker’s future, together though these two are formidable. Tess truly does seem to be Booker’s ideal woman, you remember all the little snippets he would eke out in the banter with Seth, Cole and Maggie, well Tess ticks all the boxes. Red head…check…Blood Group (yes I did say blood group)…check…love of all shiny guns…check…just a few weird and wonderful criteria Booker had set. Together they stand, but will it be united they fall?

“It felt like I was watching a movie. A horrible, sick movie and I desperately wanted it to end. But it’d only just begun.”

I love that we continue the stories of Seth and Maggie and Cole and Lilah, they are still very much a part of this story and it is wonderful to see how their relationships progress, but the centre of attention is Booker and Tess.

“Loving Booker was an incurable disease.”

Sherry Gammon has tackled some tough subjects in this book, not only are they written sensitively but they are so realistic. At times they were disturbing but this was heightened because throughout the book I had built a deep connection to the characters, their pain becomes your pain, they live it, you live it, it is that emotional connection that makes you feel and boy did I feel it. I will say Sherry also shows us her twisted side towards the end of the book, there was one part I had to read and re-read to make sure I had read right, then after I had digested, I couldn’t read on for a while, I sat there deciding if she would really “go there” then after I decided that I must have been mistaken, I re-read again, yep I had read right…at this point, Sherry was not my favourite person, I may have said a few curse words, well maybe A LOT, yes Booker’s curse jar got a helping hand…finally having the courage to read on I semi forgave her…you will know when you get there…all I can say is CRUEL Sherry, very, very CRUEL!! Ha ha ha.

Sherry Gammon has taken us on an amazing journey with this series, one that I am sad to see the end of. Her writing while emotional always conveys the perfect balance of angst and romance, while littered with humour that will have you laughing out loud. While the steam factor is low this is easily made up by the emotion. The connection that these characters have is brilliantly portrayed through love, affection and words. You cannot help but fall in love with all of them.

I cannot wait to see what comes next from this author; this is one series that I will remember for a very long time. I cannot believe I have to say goodbye, but at least it was all wrapped up nicely for all three couples…sniff…sniff.
