“She “loved me” in quotations.
She kissed me in bold.
I TRIED TO KEEP HER in all caps
She left with an ellipsis…”

Once again Colleen Hoover delivered, I never read her synopsis, I never read her reviews I just go in blind and that is definitely the way to go with this book. The least you know about it the better, just dive in and get that emotional impact as the author intended. So because of that I am going to keep this review vague, very vague.

“It took four years for me to fall in love with him. It only took four pages to stop.”

For me this book was emotional, I know I cry easily, I hold my hands up but I was in tears for the majority of this book for one reason or another. Colleen Hoover always nails that emotion, she has never failed me and the character connection in this book was second to none. I adored the premise and I adored the characters in fact I adored this book. I did have one issue, hence the 4.5 stars but I will get to that later.

Colleen’s penmanship always astounds me; she has this knack of captivating you from the first word, the first line, the first paragraph. Her plot lines are always unique and you never know where her stories are going to go but you do know that you are going to go on one amazing journey before you get to the end. Colleen’s trademark magical writing is on display for all to read throughout this book, simplistic beauty, mesmerising quotes and those potent one liners that just stab you in the heart. My book is covered in highlights, so many lines that have the ability to uplift as well as destroy, all conveyed in a few magical words. This woman is extremely powerful when it comes to the written word.

“I guess I’ll just have to fade to black.”

Fallon was a beautiful character on the inside and out and despite everything she has been through she was a survivor in more ways than one. Her personal development and character growth throughout this book was beautiful to watch and really tugs at those emotional heart strings. You wanted her to come out on top; you will champion her from the very beginning.

“My flaws are what wake me up in the morning and what keep me awake every night.”

Ben was the epitome of a fantastic book boyfriend, this man had me from the beginning, he had everything all wrapped up into a ball of Ben deliciousness. He was an aspiring writer so he had the words too and those words often made for quote worthy swooniness. Colleen never fails to deliver epic male leads and Ben is no different.

“He keeps it soft and concise, and I imagine he kisses the same way he writes. Gentle strokes of the keys, each word thought through and completed with purpose.”

There are two twists in this book, one I saw coming and one I didn’t and it is the one I didn’t that I really had an issue with. It wasn’t Colleen Hoover first and foremost and it made me question everything I had read before that twist hit. However, once I had analysed and digested and got over the shock I began to flick back and go over those swoon worthy quotes that I have mentioned and I managed to talk myself out of what was going through my head.

“Her tears and my soul, they live parallel lives.
Run, ache, burn. Repeat.
Her tears and my soul, they live parallel lives.”

As I said above, this book is hard on the emotions, that first meet, that tangible pull, the many ups and downs all pull you through the emotional wringer. I had tears of adoration, I had tears of happiness, I had tears of sadness…I was just in tears. It was magical, it was tragic and it was beautiful…so beautiful, but that sums up Colleen Hoover…beautiful, every book is just so god damn beautiful. So yes, despite the little blip, I adored this book. Any author that can evoke that kind of reaction, that many tears and so many emotions deserves a slap on the back and kudos to Colleen Hoover because she delivered it in spades. So yes, go in blind, read and devour, immerse yourself in that CoHo magic. This is one book that I will read again.

“If lies were written, I would erase them.
But they are spoken; etched within.
With convalesced truth, I scream out my atonement.
Let me repent against your skin.”
