Review ~ Debt by Nina G Jones

“Don’t convince yourself that you can play mind games with me, because you will lose. Every. Single. Fucking. Time.”

This is one of those books that while you are reading you think to yourself “I really should not be enjoying this!!” This book is dark in places and has triggers for some but personally I felt that it was all in done in keeping with the plot and the story as it developed.

The plot was so totally and utterly captivating and compelling that I could not help but page turn furiously. The writing flowed easily, it was atmospheric, it had intensity, it was emotional and it was thrilling. Exactly what you want in a dark and suspenseful read. The thing that I loved the most about this book was that although you shouldn’t have loved Tax, I couldn’t help but love him and despite everything, I felt that these two belonged together and I was rooting for them from the beginning. The chemistry between these two was sizzling, the emotion that Nina Jones conveyed through her words had me in tears at times, so all in all the book felt perfectly balanced. It had a touch of everything.

The following quote just about sums this book up perfectly.

“Reckless. Irresponsible. Dirty. Dangerous. Exhilarating. Erotic. Wild. Euphoric. How can one thing be all of those? How can peering into the gutter of my soul feel like I just touched heaven?”

Mia was your stereotypical “nice” girl. She was a work-a-holic who was high up in a sex toy company and working around sex toys all day only made her realise all the more how sorely lacking her own sex life was. She was quite happy though being who she was, she had worked hard to get where she was and her job was her “baby.”

Mia’s best friend was the bright and bubbly gregarious one and Mia was always holding onto her coat tails when she was in her company, but she always brought out the wild side to Mia. She badly wanted Mia to see some action and so relays to her the name of a website that can act out your fantasies for you and this was one fantasy that they had both talked about previously together. While on her own Mia pondered the idea, ruminating the decision around and around, until she decided to be brave and go for it. She entered her details onto the site and waited…

This is where the story kicks off and be prepared because this is one crazy train, but the good, addicting, mind bending, out of your comfort zone kind of crazy. As I said above, I really should not have liked this book, I should have been disgusted, but hell I wasn’t and I really don’t know whether I should be worried or not. Even as I am sitting here contemplating what I should say I have so many scenes flitting through my mind, I cannot stop thinking about this story and that is kudos to the author because this story certainly made an impression.

“I will suck her dry, I will fuck the life out of her, I will ravage her until she is hollow and used, and then when she thinks things can’t get any lower I will…”

This is where Mia meets Tax, Mia thinking that this was all part of the fantasy that she had asked for on “the site” goes with the flow on their first encounter, despite something that should have been a warning that all was not as it seems. Mia thinks she has gotten what she had paid for but this was just the beginning. Tax was not her “fantasy man,” Tax was a debt collector and Mia was the last debtor in a long list of people that had already paid. Mia had the biggest debt to pay because this was personal, very, very, personal.

“I know you want someone to dirty you up. I’ll make you fucking filthy. Now, show me.”

Tax was the antithesis of Mia, he was tall, he was dark, he was deadly, he was disturbed and he wanted revenge. He was drop dead gorgeous, tatted and f**ked like an animal, Mia was instantly taken by him. Despite having had her fantasy come to life she could not stop thinking about him and it seems that the feelings were mutual. Tax has an ulterior motive though, but slowly but surely this changes.

“I want to swallow you. I want to consume you. I want to possess you. I want you.”

I cannot say anything about the plot; this is where you really need to go in blind. The blurb is all you need to read, apart from the book of course!! There are twists and turns galore, your stomach will clench, you may even feel a bit sick, you will be on the edge of your seat and flying by the seat of your pants but I doubt you will be able to put this book down. Even as you digest what you are reading, you will probably question your sanity.

“Her touch singes those spots. Boots. Buckles. Shards of glass.”

This book is written in dual first person POV with flashbacks to the past and it is these flashbacks that only intensify this story and go a long way into explaining the man that Tax has become. They also show how Tax and Mia’s paths have crossed before and how she has come to be a “debtor.” One of these scenes was particularly harrowing and had me in tears.

I must admit the tears flowed freely while reading this; it certainly hit the spot with me.

This is the first book that I have read by Nina G Jones but it certainly won’t be the last. If you like your dark reads, dirty and you don’t have triggers, then this is the book for you. It is not all dark, as I said there is an underlying love story too albeit unconventional. But it is this love story that will have you on edge, wanting them to succeed, wanting them to both get their HEA, after all they deserve it, but you will just have to wait and see. Has too much happened between them already, is blood thicker than water or will love conquer all? Read it!!

Had it not been for a few editing errors this would have been a 5 star read for me.
